This curse is taught in parallel t bth undergraduate and pstgraduate students. The lecture materials (ntes, text, etc) will be the same but all assessments, assignments and examinatins will be different 2.3 Summary f Curse This curse prvides students with the key financial planning knwledge and skills. Frm a financial planning practice perspective, we address the imprtant cmpliance and legal issues and skills required t practice as a financial planner. This entails having a clear understanding f the client's situatin, cnducting needs analysis, identifying gals and bjectives, understanding research, frmulating apprpriate financial planning strategies, chsing apprpriate tls t execute the frmulated strategy, preparing a cmpliant Statement f Advice (SA), implementatin f the advice and prviding nging service and reviews t the client. The curse is ne f the key requirements fr attaining ASIC RG146 Cmpliance. 2.4 Curse Aims and Relatinship t Other Curses This curse is ne f the cre curses required fr the attainment f RG146 Cmpliance. Students are required t take FINS2643 Wealth Management as a prerequisite. The curse aims t achieve the fllwing: T reinfrce the practical knwledge f wealth management gained in FINS2643 within a cmpliance framewrk, T equip students with specific knwledge f requisite qualificatins and career paths in wealth management, and T facilitate expsure f students t a practitiner s perspective f the cnduct f wealth management advisry services. 2

We fster this apprach thrugh a range f strategies including ur applicatin f the text, which includes targeted readings fr each tpic. Our lectures are interactive; we lk fr active student cntributins thrugh discussin and is questining that reflects yur reading and experience. Wrkshps (if any) are als interactive and heavily weighted t experiential learning that encurages yu t explre theretical cncepts, cmmunicatin skills develpment and yur mral imaginatin and ethical reasning. Our design f assessment tasks reinfrces crucial knwledge and skills areas. 4

We expect that fellw students and teachers alike will learn frm discussin f these experiences and the srts f questins and debates, in relatin t research-based thery, that they generate. 3.2 Learning Activities and Teaching Strategies The face t face and self-paced nline lectures made available each week will cmplement the cmpulsry text and ther readings fr the curse by (1) utlining the main issues relevant t the tpic, (2) reinfrcing the analytical material in the required readings, (3) intrducing relevant material nt adequately cvered in the text, and (4) drawing n recent develpments in financial system markets bth in Australia and glbally. After each lecture, students may be given a list f discussin questins frm the lecture and are required t attempt t answer the prescribed discussin questins and t jin discussins mderated by the lecturer t discuss any prblems. Lectures will be delivered face t face and lecture ntes will be psted Online. This assignment is in the frm f a critique and mre details will be prvided in Lecture 2. Grup Assignment and Oral Presentatin (20%) Students will be assigned t a grup (alphabetically) and given a financial planning task t research n. The grup will prepare their assignment in a maximum f 7 pwer pint slides. This grup assignment is designed t give students an pprtunity t examine 5

7 in detail and apply their learning as a team t a financial planning task. The students will be assessed as a grup n the cntent f their assignment. Mre fr details n the task and the marking guideline will be prvided in Lecture 2 and Prject Meeting t be scheduled during week 7. Final Examinatin (60%) This is a 2-hur exam which will cnsist f multiple chice, essay type and case analysis questins. The final examinatin will be held n campus during the UNSW centrally managed examinatin perid fr Semester 2 and shuld be attended in persn. The scpe f cverage will be annunced twards the end f the curse. The final examinatin will based upn materials frm all lectures f the curse. 11 10.2 Attendance Yur regular and punctual attendance at lectures and seminars is expected in this curse. Decisins and recmmendatins are nly made by lecturers-in-charge (r by the Faculty Panel in the case f UG final exam special cnsideratins), nt by tutrs. 5. Applying fr special cnsideratin des nt autmatically mean that yu will be granted a supplementary exam r ther cncessin. 6. Special cnsideratin requests d nt allw lecturers-in-charge t award students additinal marks. Special Cnsideratin and the Final Exam: Applicatins fr special cnsideratin in relatin t the final exam are cnsidered by an ASB Faculty panel t which lecturers-in-charge prvide their recmmendatins fr each request. If the Faculty panel grants a special cnsideratin request, this will entitle the student t sit a supplementary examinatin. N ther frm f cnsideratin will be granted. The fllwing prcedures will apply: 1. Supplementary exams will be scheduled centrally and will be held apprximately tw weeks after the frmal examinatin perid. The dates fr ASB supplementary exams fr Semester 1, 2014 are: 15th July exams fr the Schl f Accunting 16th July exams fr all Schls except Accunting and Ecnmics 17th July exams fr the Schl f Ecnmics If a student ldges a special cnsideratin fr the final exam, they are stating they will be available n the abve dates. Supplementary exams will nt be held at any ther time. 2. Where a student is granted a supplementary examinatin as a result f a request fr special cnsideratin, the student s riginal exam (if cmpleted) will be ignred and nly the mark achieved in the supplementary examinatin will cunt twards the final grade. Failure t attend the supplementary exam will nt entitle the student t have the riginal exam paper marked and may result in a zer mark fr the final exam. If yu attend the regular final exam, yu are extremely unlikely t be granted a supplementary exam. Hence if yu are t ill t perfrm up t yur nrmal standard in the regular final exam, yu are strngly advised nt t attend. Hwever, granting f a supplementary exam in such cases is nt autmatic.
