9 1 Intrductin Abut This Guide Welcme t HP Prject and Prtfli Management Center (PPM Center). The gal f this dcument is t prvide yu with the details that will allw yu t understand the hardware and sftware ptins available fr yur deplyment f PPM Center. This dcument prvides the details abut the envirnments and prducts supprted by HP fr this versin f PPM Center. Additinally, this guide identifies required third-party sftware as well as sftware that can be used t enable ptinal features, functinality, and tplgies. An Overview f the PPM Center Architecture PPM Center emplys a three-tier, client-server architecture as shwn in the fllwing cnceptual diagram (Figure 1-1). Refer t the Installatin and Administratin Guide fr details abut the available system cnfiguratin ptins. 9

In additin the applicatin and database tier cmpnents, the server-side chapter als prvides details abut the ptinal Web server and cntent management cmpnents. Dcuments can be assciated with varius PPM Center entities using ne f these mechanisms: Attachments. This limited functinality is an integral prtin f the prduct and des nt require additinal sftware installatin r hardware. 10 Chapter 1

11 Dcument Management slutin. This sftware prvides enhanced cntent management functinality within PPM Center and requires additinal sftware that is available (free f charge) frm HP. Dcumentum integratin. PPM Center can be integrated with a separate (standalne) deplyment f EMC Dcumentum. This apprach can prvide mre seamless cntent management acrss yur enterprise. The sftware t enable this integratin can be purchased frm HP. Althugh nt shwn in the previus figure, PPM Center is able t integrate with mst industry standard single sign-n systems such as CA SiteMinder versin 6.0. HP will supprt single sign-n integratin t the extent that the HP API is used fr this purpse. HP will prvide lgging infrmatin s that custmers and third-party vendrs can trublesht the integratin themselves. HP will nt set up the third-party system fr debugging purpses. HP des nt cmmit t changing any HP-prduced cde shuld the integratin fail. 12 An Overview f Language Supprt The PPM Center sftware must be installed (r upgraded) and maintained n servers relying n either an English-language r Japanese-language perating system. Installatin f language packs prvide the apprpriate language cntent fr the principal areas f the PPM Center user interface and entities. PPM Center clients shuld use ne f the languages deplyed n the PPM Center instance. The fllwing language packs are available with the initial release f the prduct and are included in the installatin bundle: English (en) Russian (ru) Prtuguese (pt_br) Spanish (es) Chinese (zh_cn) German (de) French (fr) Krean (k) Turkish (tr) Italian (it) Japanese (ja) Dutch (nl) Language cdes (abbreviatins) may need t be used when generating fiscal perids, translating custmized entities, r identifying language-specific paths n the PPM Server. Make sure that yu use the language cdes shwn in parentheses in the previus list and that the specified language is installed n PPM Center. 12 Chapter 1

Mzilla Firefx 3.5 Mzilla Firefx 3.6 In relatin t Micrsft's desupprt f Internet Explrer 6.0 (July 2010), PPM 9.10 is deprecating Internet Explrer 6.0 supprt. PPM utilizes new features and technlgies that are nt supprted by IE 6.0. While mst PPM features will wrk withut issue in IE 6.0, custmers may experience prblems relating t brwser perfrmance, layut, and general functinality. HP recmmends and fully supprts custmers using IE 7.0 and IE 8.0. In rder t receive supprt, custmers must be able t demnstrate the prblem in a fully supprted brwser versin. Client-Side Prducts and Envirnments 15

16 Multilingual User Interface Supprt T supprt the languages listed in Chapter 1, Intrductin, n page 9, clients shuld be cnfigured with at least ne f the languages as that installed n the PPM Center instance. Fr example, if yur PPM Center instance has nly the French language pack installed, all clients that access this instance shuld be cnfigured t use French. PPM Wrkbench Requirements Java Plug-In Requirements Access t the PPM Wrkbench requires an apprpriate versin f the Sun Java plug-in installed. Supprted versins include: 1.6.0_07 r later (32-bit nly) The Java plug-in is autmatically installed the first time a user accesses the PPM Wrkbench. Disk Space Requirements User machines that access the PPM Wrkbench require 40 MB f disk space mre than is required by the brwser. This space is required t stre client-side Java files. 18 Fr example, if yur PPM Center instance has the French language pack installed, clients with a French sessin language shuld use French fr their ptinal sftware prducts. D nt attempt t use PPM Center with sftware prducts that have a mix f languages, such as a PPM Center instance supprting English, Krean, and French interacting with a German client having an Italian versin f Excel sftware. All the sftware prducts used in yur PPM Center client shuld rely n the same language, and this language must als be supprted n the PPM Center instance. 18 Chapter 2

19 3 Server-Side Prducts and Envirnments HP PPM Center Sftware Platfrm Supprt Supprt is limited t the sftware and versins specifically mentined in this dcument unless therwise nted. Third Party Sftware Platfrm Supprt Third party platfrm supprt infrmatin prvided in this dcument des NOT supersede anything prvided by the third party vendrs. Please make sure that all third party sftware and platfrm cmbinatins used in cnjunctin with PPM Center are supprted by the respective vendrs, and that the cmbinatins are supprted by HP. HP is nt respnsible fr any discrepancies invlving supprt platfrms fr third party prducts. Overview f Server-Side Supprt The fllwing sectins list the requirements fr the PPM Center server-side cmpnents. Details specific t each cmpnent are dcumented in their wn sectin. Fr yur cnvenience the infrmatin is further categrized by platfrm and each sectin includes additinal imprtant infrmatin and cnsideratins, if necessary. Imprtant Cnsideratins Carefully cnsider each f the fllwing during yur planning and deplyment phases f PPM Center: 19

20 Oracle Supprt All installed Oracle versins shuld include the mst recent patches and fllw the guidelines prvided in the latest Critical Patch Update. This infrmatin is available frm Thrughut this guide, any Oracle patches r similar updates that are critical fr PPM Center supprt are nted. Standard Editin One, as well as the Standard and Enterprise Editins f the Oracle database versins are supprted. HP supprts 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle fr the versins and perating systems supprted by PPM Center. These are subject t the hardware and perating system requirements established by Oracle. If yu install a stand-alne instance f PPM Center n a machine that hsts yur Oracle database, be aware that HP supprts use f 64-bit JVM fr the Oracle database, but nt fr PPM Center. See details in Table 3-1 thrugh Table Operating System Supprt Supprt fr each perating system versin assumes that the apprpriate patch r patches have been applied t supprt the Java JDK installatin n that system. On x86 platfrms, the distinctin is made whether HP supprts the 32- r 64-bit versin f the perating system (Windws r Linux). On ther platfrms such as Sun SPARC, IBM Pwer4/5, and HP PA-RISC r Itanium, HP des supprt their respective 64-bit UNIX perating system. VMware Supprt Where VMware ESX Server (n x86 platfrms) is supprted, this versin f PPM Center is expected t functin prperly in virtual envirnments fr which HP has explicitly stated supprt; hwever, there may be functinal and perfrmance implicatins. HP will nt require custmers t re-create and trublesht every issue in a nn-vmware envirnment; hwever, HP des reserve the right t request that custmers diagnse certain issues in a native supprted 20 Chapter 3

21 perating system envirnment withut the virtual envirnment. HP will nly make this request when there is reasn t believe that the virtual envirnment is a cntributing factr t the issue. If the issue cannt be reprduced in a supprted nn-virtual envirnment, custmers will need t refer their issues t VMware. VMware-specific prblems must be handled by the custmer and VMware. HP Integrity Virtual Machine HP Prject and Prtfli Management Center fr HP-UX 11i Integrity is binary cmpatible t run within an HP Integrity Virtual Machine (VM). Language Supprt The language fr the perating system used fr bth the PPM Server and database must be either English r Japanese regardless f the languages deplyed n the PPM Center instance. Implementatin f the varius languages n the PPM Center instance may require additinal cnfiguratin and maintenance. Natinal language supprt is available fr the Managing Applicatin Change integratin sftware and the Migratrs and Extensins n a limited basis see the apprpriate prduct dcumentatin fr details.
