1 HID H4 BI-XENON FITTING GUIDE Carefully read the following notes before starting work. WARNING! This HID kit should only be installed by someone competent in vehicle wiring and electrics. Incorrect fitment and/or setting of these lights has the potential to cause fire and/ or endanger other motorists. It is essential that you have your headlight beam alignment checked after fitting these headlights to ensure that the beam pattern is correct. These lights are much brighter than conventional halogen lights and could dazzle other road users if incorrectly adjusted. The low beam pattern should match the original headlamp unit s pattern. Most friendly garages or MOT centres are happy to check, and if necessary, adjust the headlights for a small fee. HID headlight voltage can exceed 23KV (that s Volts!) at start up. This can still cause a shock after it is disconnected, take all necessary precautions to avoid electric shock. Never attempt to disassemble or modify any part of the ballast unit or its wiring. To do so could result in electric shock. Never touch the bulb when it is on and remember to allow plenty of cooling time before handling HID lamp units that have been in operation. Do not operate this HID lamp outside of the headlight housing HID lamps can generate significant quantities of heat and this could cause a fire if not securely mounted in the correct headlight unit. Do not tamper with, or modify, the moving reflector housing as this is essential in creating the correct beam pattern. Removing or modifying the reflector could cause severe dazzling of other motorists. Please note that this system is for connection to negative earth vehicles only. Please check and secure all wiring before operating the lights. The red fuse lead should be connected to a good +12v power connection (preferably direct to the battery) and all earth rings should be checked for continuity to the battery negative earth connection or engine block. Poor/ loose electrical connections can cause lighting failure or fire! CAUTION! Do not touch the lamp glass! If it is necessary to change the lamp use a cotton glove or clean cloth. Directly touching the lamp can damage it. Clean bulb with rubbing alcohol if it is inadvertently touched. Ballast boxes and all wiring should be located in areas that are not subject to excessive heat or water exposure. All earth rings should be secured to a sound, clean area of metal. Owners of fibreglass cars, such as TVRs, please note that you must star earth all connections directly to the battery earth terminal as shown in the diagram. Do not install this kit in any lamp housing that has any cracks/ or defects that may allow the ingress of water.

STEP A FIT THE HID LAMP ASSEMBLIES 1. Disconnect the battery; 2. Access the back of the headlamp housing and it s wiring connector. This is easier with some models than others. Sometimes it is necessary to remove the headlamp housing to gain access. If you do remove the headlamp, take care not to disturb the headlamp adjuster screws, it is usually possible to remove the headlamp-retaining ring without disturbing these adjusters; 3. Remove rubber bulb cover (if fitted); 4. Un-plug the H4 bulb socket; 5. Carefully remove the headlight bulb retaining spring and original halogen bulb; 6. Fit HID lamp unit carefully into headlight housing noting orientation of locating lugs and retain with the original retaining ring. Please make sure the lamp is correctly located (widest lug facing up) and the spring is secure. (Headlight removed in picture for clarity); Wide locating lug at top of lamp unit HID high/low beam lamp assembly Original bulb retaining spring 7. Refit rubber bulb cover (if fitted). Note: It is necessary to cut a 23mm hole in the centre of the rubber bulb cover to enable the wider lamp unit and wiring to pass through. A metal punch makes the neatest hole, although hole-saws or even a craft knife can be used successfully. Seal with RTV sealant; Cut 23mm hole here 8. Repeat this process for the other lamp unit.

3 STEP B - MOUNTING THE BALLASTS 1. Connect the HID lamp to the ballast unit (2 round waterproof connectors; one red, one black) as shown below; Ballast to HID lamp assembly wiring High/low beam control wire from lamp. This connects to matching rectangular connector on the wiring harness (STEP C) 2. Locate a suitable mounting point for the ballast unit. This is limited by the length of the wiring to within 0.5m of the HID lamp. Mount the ballast bracket securely using the bolts provided. Please note that the ballast should not be exposed to excessive heat (100C+), vibration or water; Bolt ballast brackets in at least two places Preferably mount in a location free of direct water splash and excessive heat. On most Land Rovers or Range Rovers we find the inner wing panel behind the headlight suitable. 3. Repeat this process for the other ballast.

4 STEP C CONNECT WIRING & HIGH/LOW WIRING HARNESS CONTROLLER 1. Connect the high/low beam control wires (small rectangular connectors) between the HID lamps and the high/low wiring harness controller; 2. Connect the ballast units to the High/Low wiring harness (black oval Weatherpak connector with yellow waterproof seal). Check that the connector is the correct way round as shown below; Weatherpak connector on High/ Low wiring harness plugs in here. Locating clips on connector face away from the square lug. 3. Connect the ballast earth cables (short black wires with metal ring terminals) to battery negative or a good grounding point; 4. Connect the three pin headlight plug from the high/ low wiring harness into one of the original headlight bulb sockets; 5. Mount the high/ low beam wiring controller using the fixings provided to a location free of excessive moisture, vibration or heat; 6. Connect the 12v fused power feed cable to the battery positive connection; 7. Re-connect battery. TESTING YOUR HID LAMP INSTALLATION Switch on headlights and check that both HID lamps illuminate leave the lamps on for at least 10 minutes to ensure they fully warm up. Check high/low function the motorised reflector should move and the beam pattern should match the correct original beam pattern. Please note it is essential to get head-light alignment checked if in any doubt as incorrectly set head lights, particularly very bright ones, could potentially dazzle and blind other road users.

5 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Fitted HID system and both headlights are not working. Fitted HID system and one headlight not working. Fitted HID system and high/ low system is not functioning. Solutions 1. Ensure that there is sufficient battery voltage by starting the car before switching on the HID lights. Whilst HID lamps draw less current than conventional halogen bulbs when lit, they require a higher initial voltage to create the electrical arc. 2. Check that all of the wiring matches the diagram supplied. 3. Check ballast to high/ low wiring connector is fitted the right way round (it is possible to connect it the wrong way) 4. Check HID wiring 30amp fuse. 5. Check for good earth connections to ballast units. 6. Check OEM vehicle headlight fuses. 1. Ensure there is sufficient battery voltage by starting the car before switching on the HID lights. Check ballast to high/ low wiring connector is fitted the right way round (it is possible to connect it the wrong way) 4. Check for good earth connections to ballast units. 5. Try carefully swapping HID lamp unit from one side to the other if the lamp unit still fails to function replace the lamp if it now lights check ballast wiring and earth connections carefully. 1. Check that the HID lamp is fitted correctly in the HID lamp housing the lock mark should line up with the arrow on the lamp itself. 2. Check all wiring matches the diagram supplied. 3. Ensure three pin plug to original headlight connector is fitted correctly. 4. Check that vehicles high/low wiring works by temporarily installing original bulb into original three pin socket. 5.
