1 Music Production, Performance and BusinessTechnology Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement From the Mission of Hocking College To prepare learners for technical careers or for transfer to other institutions of higher learning. Mission of Academic Affairs Unit To promote learning and learner success. Mission of Music: Production, Performance, and Business To prepare individuals for careers in Music: Production, Performance, and Business Technology and provide students with a background sufficient for growth and advancement in the profession.. Central Objective Graduates of the Music: Production, Performance, and Business Technology will be well prepared for entry-level employment Music 1
2 Success Skills The following general outcomes are life and work skills cultivated in all students seeking the Associate Degree. 1. Communicates effectively. 2. Demonstrates math skills. 3. Demonstrates learning and critical thinking skills. 4. Maintains professional skills and attitudes. 5. Practices human relations skills. 6. Demonstrates knowledge of science and the environment. 7. Demonstrates community, cultural, and global awareness. 8. Maintains a code of ethics. Program Outcomes The following outcomes express additional, particular skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate Degree in Music: Production, Performance, and Business Manages people, projects and self. Establishes, builds and maintains business and interpersonal relationships. Utilizes human relation skills to balance strengths of artists and demands of the industry. Embraces technology and adapts to changes. Promotes skills and strengths of the musician. Engages in entrepreneurship to plan, execute, promote, and improvise careers. Develops, maintains, and balances artistic, technical and business management skills. Uses professional knowledge and instincts to recognize quality and to engage in risk. Exercises judgment and makes ethical decisions as they relate to the music industry. Respects physical, mental and emotional health of self and others. The Success Skills and Program Outcomes combine to form a single set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes determined desirable for entry-level practitioners in Fitness Management, for graduates transferring to four-year institutions, and for educated citizens Music 2
3 Criteria for Assessing Student Academic Achievement 1. The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by graduates of the Music, Production, Performance and Business Technology on a survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the graduates satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for entry-level work. Data gathered for : * Number of graduates: Number of graduate surveys returned: Program Outcomes** Aggregate Number of Respondents Overall * Source of information: Hocking College Graduate Survey Report (September 2008). ** See page 2 of this report for a complete listing of the Program Outcomes. Seventy-five percent of Hocking College s Music Production, Performance, and Business Technology graduates responding to a graduate survey will report employment in the field or continuing education within one year of graduation. The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by students of the Music Production, Performance and Business Technology program on the 6th Quarter Survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the students satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for entry-level work. Data gathered for : Number of 6 th Quarter Surveys: 10 Program Outcomes* Aggregates Overall Aggregate 3.81 * For a complete listing of the Program Outcomes see page 2 of this report. The overall aggregate for each program outcome evaluated by sixth quarter students in the Music Production, Performance and Business Technology was 3.81 exceeding the goal of 3.5 (on a 5-point scale). Individual aggregates for the program outcomes were above goal except for #5(Promotes skills and strengths of the musician). This is the first year of data collection for this measure. Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: No program changes are planned as a result of this analysis. This Criterion will be changed to read as follows in our Plan: The criterion will remain the same Music 8

The aggregate score for each Success Skill evaluated by students of the Music Production, Performance, and Business Technology program on the 6th Quarter Survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the students satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for life/job skills. Data gathered for : Number of Surveys: 10 Success Skills* Aggregates Overall 2.70 * For a complete listing of the Success Skills see page 2 of this report. The overall aggregate for each Success Skill evaluated by sixth quarter students in the Music Production, Performance and Business Technology was 2.70 below the goal of 3.5 (on a 5-point scale). Individual aggregates for the Success Skills that fell below goal included Demonstrates Math Skills, Demonstrates Knowledge of Science and the Environment, and Demonstrates Community Cultural, and Global Awareness. This is the first year of data collection for this measure. Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: No program changes are planned as a result of this analysis.
