1 E-COMMERCE & WEB DESIGN TECHNOLOGY Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement From the Mission of Hocking College To prepare learners for technical careers or for transfer to other institutions of higher learning. Mission of Academic Affairs Unit To promote learning and learner success. Mission of E-Commerce Technology To prepare students for entry-level career positions as E-commerce professionals, to encourage their professional growth and lifelong learning in the E-commerce profession, and to prepare them for a lifetime of service to society in the new economy. Central Objective Graduates of the E-Commerce Technology will be well prepared for entry-level employment. IP0405Ecommerce&WebDesign/1
2 Success Skills The following general outcomes are life and work skills cultivated in all students seeking the Associate Degree. 1. Communicates effectively. 2. Demonstrates math skills. 3. Demonstrates learning and critical thinking skills. 4. Maintains professional skills and attitudes. 5. Practices human relations skills. 6. Demonstrates knowledge of science and the environment. 7. Demonstrates community, cultural, and global awareness. 8. Maintains a code of ethics. Program Outcomes The following outcomes express additional, particular skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate Degree in E-Commerce. 1. Develops an e-commerce strategy founded on market research. 2. Utilizes a variety of web site design software. 3. Develops an effective storyboard layout of an e-commerce site. 4. Designs an e-commerce site. 5. Implements customer support programs into e-commerce design. 6. Utilizes networks to post the e-commerce site to a web server. 7. Utilizes client software to administer various e-commerce servers. 8. Develops a web marketing strategy. 9. Demonstrates an understanding of legal and ethical issues surrounding e-business. 10. Utilizes Internet software. The Success Skills and Program Outcomes combine to form a single set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes determined desirable for entry-level practitioners in E-Commerce, for graduates transferring to four-year institutions, and for educated citizens. 3 Criteria for Assessing Student Academic Achievement 1. The aggregate score for each Program Outcome evaluated by graduates of the E-Commerce and Web Design program on a survey will be 3.5 or higher (on a 5-point scale), indicating the graduates satisfaction with their Hocking College preparation for entry-level employment. Data gathered for :* Number of graduates: 5 Number of graduates responding to survey: 0 Program Outcomes** Overall * Source of information: Hocking College Graduate Surveys (September 2005) ** See page 2 of this report for a complete listing of the Program Outcome statements. There were no graduate surveys returned for the E-Commerce and Web Design program during this period. For the previous reporting year an overall aggregate of 3.0 (on a 5-point scale) was reported by one (1) graduate (see IP0304, page 3). Does this analysis support conclusions drawn from other assessment data analyzed for ? Please elaborate. During the same time period, aggregate scores were reported for specific projects in the program as follows: SWOT Analysis in the course Business Needs Analysis an overall aggregate of 4.16 (on a 5-point scale) was reported for eleven (11) students (see IP0304, page 8). Web Market Research Report in the Marketing on the Internet course an overall aggregate of 4.4 was reported for eleven (11) students (see IP0304, page 9). For the Group Presentation in the Online Law course an overall aggregate of 4.1 was reported for eleven (11) students (see IP0304, page 10). * Graduate and employer survey results for are reported with data for ; survey results are not available until 15 months following June graduation. For the previous reporting year an overall aggregate of 3.0 (on a 5-point scale) was reported by one (1) graduate (see IP0304, page 4). During this time period, the Mathematics faculty administered the Demonstrates Math Skills test to 545 students and the overall performance aggregate earned was 4.07 (on a 5-point scale). Three (3) students in this sample who were enrolled in the E-Commerce and Web Design program earned an overall performance aggregate of 4.5 (see Mathematics IP0304, page 13). During this time period, aggregate scores were reported for specific projects in the program as follows: SWOT Analysis in the course Business Needs Analysis an overall aggregate of 4.16 (on a 5-point scale) was reported for eleven (11) students (see IP0304, page 8). Seventy-five percent of the graduates of the E-Commerce and Web Design program will report employment related to the technology, and/or pursuit of additional education in a survey about six months after graduation. Data gathered for *: Total number of graduates: 5 Number of responses including surveys, phone calls, & faculty input: Number of graduates employed related to technology: Number of graduates employed unrelated to technology: Number of graduates in military: Number of graduates continuing education: Number of graduates continuing education and employed: 1 Number of graduates seeking employment: Number of graduates not in work force: Number of graduates "Unknown" 4 * Source of information: Hocking College Placement Surveys Summer 2003 through Spring (September 2005) Information was obtained for only one of the graduates who was employed and continuing education. Thus, the goal was achieved for that graduate; however, no information was known for 80% of the graduates. Does this analysis support conclusions drawn from other assessment data analyzed for ? This criterion is the only one that addresses employment and/or continuing education information. * Graduate and employer survey results for are reported with data for ; survey results are not available until 15 months following June graduation. 8 6. The aggregate score for each skill evaluated for the SWOT Analysis in the course E-Marketing, will be 3.5 or higher, indicating better-than-adequate to superior performance. Note: SWOT is an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Data gathered for : Number of Students: 17 Skills Internal Strengths 4.02 Weaknesses 4.12 External Opportunities 4.21 Threats 4.01 Overall Analysis 4.08 Overall 4.09 The students exceeded the benchmark of 3.5 since an overall aggregate of 4.09 (on a 5-point scale) was earned by seventeen (17) students. The performance aggregate decreased slightly compared to last year when an aggregate of 4.16 was reported (see IP0304, page 8). The sample size, however, increased from eleven students. Overall aggregates reported for the past three years were as follows: Academic Year Overall for 19 students for14 students for 11 students Thus, the aggregate is the second highest reported during a 4-year period. The greatest individual rating changes were posted for Internal Strengths (0.63 points lower) and External Opportunities (0.21 points higher) when compared to the previous year s data (see IP0304, page 8). Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: The program will not be changed as a result of this analysis. The goal was exceeded. The aggregate score for each skill evaluated for the Web Market Research Report in the Marketing on the Internet course, will be 3.5 or higher, indicating better-than-adequate to superior performance. Data gathered for : * Number of Students: 17 Skills Situational Analysis 4.10 Selecting Target Markets 3.98 Setting Objectives 4.23 Marketing Mix Strategies 4.78 Action Plan 4.14 Budget 4.32 Evaluation Plan 4.17 Overall 4.22 Overall 4.24 The students exceeded benchmark of 3.5 since an overall performance aggregate of 4.24 was earned by seventeen (17) students. As in the previous criterion, the overall aggregate decreased slightly but the sample size was larger when compared to the previous reporting year (see IP0304, page 9). The lowest rated metric was Selecting Target Markets at 3.98; however, this rating still exceeded the goal. The greatest individual rating changes were posted for Selecting Target Markets (0.52 points lower) and Marketing Mix Strategies (0.58 points higher) when compared to the previous year s data (see IP0304, page 9). Overall aggregates reported for the past two years were as follows: Academic Year Overall for18 students for 11 students Program change planned for as a result of this analysis: The lecture on target markets will be expanded and an analysis lab will be added to improve the metric which received the lowest rating. 10 8. The aggregate score for each skill evaluated for the Group Presentation in the Online Law course will be 3.5 or higher, indicating better-than-adequate to superior performance. Data gathered for : * Number of Students: 17 Skills Introduction 4.46 Presentation 4.21 Audience Engagement 4.01 Presentation Material 4.02 Theme/Ideas 4.18 Structure of Content 4.11 Subject Matter 4.21 Depth of Content 4.02 Overall 4.15 An overall aggregate of 4.15 (on a 5-point scale) was reported for seventeen (17) students. The overall performance aggregate as well as each evaluated metric exceeded the goal. The greatest individual rating changes were posted for Audience Engagement (0.49 points lower) and Theme/Ideas (0.28 points higher) when compared to the previous year s data (see IP0304, page 10). The overall score rose slightly when compared to the two previous years for which this data was collected.
