Getting ready for the 3 rd Salon The French Coalition for the Decade is pleased to announce that the 3 rd International Salon for Peace Initiatives will take place in Paris on the 30 th and 31 st of May and the 1st of June, and will host the of International Conference Actors for a culture of peace and non-violence. The Salon will bring together many initiatives presented by exhibitors, lots of different activities and a cycle of roundtables and workshops promoting a culture of non-violence and peace in its various forms: education, justice, non-violent conflict resolution, mediation, human rights, sustainable development, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, disarmament. Our information letter, the News will keep you up-to-date with the preparation progress. We hope you enjoy this first issue! 2 The News of the 3 rd International Salon for Peace Initiatives February Partners Organisations already supporting the Salon Presentation of the venue The 3 rd Salon is going to be bigger! As in previous years, the Salon will take place at the Cité des Sciences et de l Industrie. In order to better receive exhibitors and visitors, it will occupy the two spaces which housed respectivelythe first and second Salons: The Espace Condorcet Located at the same level than the Cité s reception hall, this 2,300 m 2 space hosted the first Salon in This year, the majority of the exhibitors booths will be here. There will also be activities, exhibitions, a Youth space and a Cafe in the Espace Condorcet. The Centre des Congrès de la Villette In 2006, the 2 nd edition of the Salon took place in the Centre des Congrès de la Villette. Located in the centre of the Cité, it measures more than 2,500 m² and is arranged on three levels. The first two levels (S1 and S2) will house booths, a Youth space and a Cafe. Activities will also be organised here. The third level (S3) will house the International Conference Actors for a culture of peace and non-violence. The roundtables will be held in a 400-seat amphitheatre, and the workshops will take place in four 80-seat rooms.

There will be preferential rates for exhibitors registering before the 31 st March Step 1: Your application. You can download the candidature pack from the Salon s website (home page). You should return the completed form to us, as well as the required documents, by post and e- mail. Step 2 : Your registration When your candidature has been validated, we send you an application pack. Each exhibitor must complete the registration form and pay the registration fees, even if sharing a booth with another exhibitor. The next Exhibitors meeting will take place in Paris on Friday 11 th April 2008: From 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Association de quartier Notre-Dame-des-Champs 92 bis boulevard du Montparnasse, Paris (Metro Montparnasse or Vavin). 4 The News of the 3 rd International Salon for Peace Initiatives February Coming to the Salon as a visitor During 3 days, visitors will be able to: - browse exhibitors booths - take part in activities interactive: workshops, films, debates, exhibitions, shows - attend the International Conference Actors for a culture of peace and non-violence (see p5 for details of the roundtables and workshops) Each visitor will receive a catalogue with a map, detailed programme of activities and of the International Conference, and a presentation of each exhibitor.. Activities for children and young people Ticket prices: 5 euros a day / 4 euros in presale 3-day pass: 10 euros Concessions: 1 euro a day (under 18s, students, jobseekers) In keeping with the Decade s qpirit, the Coalition believes that it is fundamentally important that everyone, from an early age, should learn about non-violence and peace. Particular attention will therefore be paid to children and young people at the Salon. A Youth passport On arrival, each young person will receive a Passeport Jeunes (Youth Passport). It will provide a guide to the Salon by indicating those exhibitors who provide fun and interactive activities, as well as exhibition material specially aimed at children and teenagers. Special activities Through games, art and meeting others, young people will discover the culture of non-violence in a way that is relevant to them: how to live together, how to deal with conflicts, antidiscrimination and international solidarity. Games : forum theatre, cooperative games, interactive exhibitions, roleplays. Art : shows, drawing, films, art exhibitions, painting. Group Visits Meetings: visiting booths, conferences, interactive workshops A group reception service School groups or groups from social organisations, special education centres, cultural or youth group initiatives can benefit from a group welcome, organised in advance with you and according to your needs and availability. This will include a guided tour/independent visit of the Salon and its booths, participation in special activities and free participation in all of the Salon s permanent activities. 5 The News of the 3 rd International Salon for Peace Initiatives February The International Conference For the second time, the International Salon for Peace Initiatives will welcome, in the Centre des Congrès de la Villette, the International Conference Actors for a culture of peace and non-violence. They are organised by the French Coalition for the Decade, in collaboration with the International Coalition for the Decade. Roundtables The roundtables will be at the heart of these exchanges. Activists from around the world will speak at each one. The tables will discuss the culture of peace and nonviolence from an international perspective and will take place in a 400-seat amphitheatre, on Level S3 of the Centre des Congrès de la Villette. International Coalition for the Decade Through the organisation of roundtables and workshops, the International Conference will allow actors involved in the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence from around the world to meet and debate with each other. They will also support the development of networks and synergies on an international scale. So that this Conference is accessible to the widest possible audience, the roundtables and workshops will be translated by interpreters working in English and French. If necessary, translations into other languages will also be provided. Gandhi and Martin Luther King The programme for the second edition, which we are currently putting together, will make reference to the anniversaries of the deaths of two leaders of the nonviolence: Gandhi (1948) and Martin Luther King (1968, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in 1964). The member organisations of the French and International Coalitions for the Decade have chosen five themes: Education: How to teach peace and non-violence at school? Politics: What is the non-violence engagement of a citizen in society? Economy: Is extreme poverty the main cause of violence? Can we fight poverty? With whom can we fight? Wars: Right to interfere, civil peace intervention: what is the role of the international community? Media: How to educate in face of the violence shown by the media? The names of the speackers will be published soon. Workshops Around sixty workshops will tackle more specific issues of the culture of peace and non-violence, either from a thematic (disarmament, child soldiers, civil peace intervention, etc.) or geographical perspective (African Great Lakes, the Balkans, etc.). The workshops will take place in four workshop rooms of around 80 seats, located on level S3 of the Centre des Congrès. They will be set up by French and international organisations, and will allow participants to talk to each other about their experiences and practices as citizens, and to contribute to the shared thought and reflection, with witnesses from around the world.
