2 Welcome Bienvenue President's Message Welcome to all skaters, parents, friends, family, and part 2volunteers to our 2014 Codiac Cyclones Atlantic Canadian Short Track Championship. This will be a fulfilling and wonderful weekend experience for all levels of competition. I am looking forward to seeing each and every skater push their limits in trying to achieve, or surpass, their personal bests. I d like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for all of the volunteers help in making this meet happen. This is my second year as Chair of The Codiac Cyclones and I am deeply grateful and thankful for all of the volunteers time and efforts. Without them, there would not be an Atlantic Canadian Short Track Championship. Dear parents, I want you to know that I have great respect for all of you. Investing time and helping your children achieve their best in this beautiful sport is something you will remember for a lifetime. I applaud you all for your diligence, participation and involvement. J. LeBlanc arena, on February 8 and 9. The City of Moncton would like to thank the Codiac Cyclones Speed Skating Club for hosting this event. Your commitment to having fun, playing fair and to developing independence, determination and endurance through your sport in the Greater Moncton area is to be commended. I wish to congratulate all the athletes and coaches on your initiative and dedication to the sport of speed skating. We trust that you will take this opportunity to enjoy not only the meet, but also the many features Moncton has to offer. 6 Mayor s Message Message du maire part 2 On behalf of the Riverview Town Council and the citizens of Riverview, I am pleased to welcome the skaters, volunteers and supporters of the 2014 Atlantic Canadian Short Track Championship. Hosting a Meet is another example of team work where everyone involved has to be in position in order to get the job done and done well!! Without the support and dedication of volunteers a tournament of this caliber would not be possible, and we thank you. 7 The Basics of this Short Track Championship: Entrants are grouped by their current ability level. Males and females skate together. The competitive groupings are called divisions and are almost never the same at any two meets. Skaters race in semi-final and final races with exception of the last race which may be skated as a final only. Advancement to Finals: Advancement to the "A" final will be 1st place finish from all semi-finals and the next best times. Remaining skaters will be placed in the "B", "C" or "D" finals based entirely on their times in the semi-finals. Prizes: Place ribbons are awarded up to sixth place. The top three point earning males and females in each division of the meet will receive first, second and third place medals. Exhibition skaters will receive participant ribbons. 10 The Basics of this Short Track Championship: Point System: Points are awarded for finals only. First place in an "A" final earns 1000 points. Last place in an "A" final earns one position ahead of 1st place in a "B" final. etc. Place: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Points : Place: 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th Points : Place: 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Points : Acknowledgments The Codiac Cyclones Speed Skating Club would like to extend its genuine appreciation to all the sponsors, officials and volunteers that participated in this event.
