2 ABOUT CSUMB INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) provides an extraordinary opportunity for international students to experience life in America s #1 study abroad destination California. Whether you enjoy relaxing on white sand beaches, mountain biking through sand dunes, touring 18th century Spanish Missions, kayaking amidst sea otters, surfing the iconic waves of Big Sur, or photographing pink-orange sunsets over peaceful waters, the Monterey Bay area has something for everyone. Located in the center of the Golden State coastline, Monterey is just hours from San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Yosemite, and Los Angeles, making it the perfect starting point for weekend trips. CSUMB students enjoy small classes, enthusiastic professors, and a diverse student body from all over the world. As a university committed to multiculturalism and equal opportunity, CSUMB offers reasonable admission requirements at an attractive tuition compared with other U.S. universities. Plus, as part of the California State University, the largest 4-year public university system in the U.S., CSUMB is backed by tremendous academic resources while maintaining a flexible, intimate, small-school feel. International students who choose CSUMB enjoy the benefits of a vibrant residential community. With more than 5.2 km 2, the campus has everything you d expect from a great university: a state-of-the-art library, brand new dorms and academic buildings, dining halls to accommodate all lifestyles, robust sports and aquatic facilities, and a buzzing student center. And with more than 45% of our student body living on campus, international students have the extraordinary opportunity to be fully immersed in the American college experience.

4 DEGREE PROGRAMS The interdisciplinary nature of our programs ensures that students get the foundations of their academic fields while also gaining the skills necessary to effectively confront career challenges. This means students receive expert support from professors while working through classroom content. Undergraduate and graduate degrees at CSUMB are challenging, rewarding, professionally oriented, and fully accredited. Degree-seeking international students fully integrate with CSUMB students in all classes and may live on campus with American or international students. There are more than 80 clubs and student organizations to get involved with, boasting everything from community service groups to the Chinese Lion Dance club. CSUMB has an active Greek life for those interested in joining a sorority or fraternity, as well as a thriving theatre and music scene. Our clubs and organizations span many interest areas including academic, community service, cultural, political/social action, recreational, religious, and more. Outdoor Recreation is another very popular program that helps students explore all the adventures the Monterey area has to offer, like stand-up paddling, camping, kayaking, and rock climbing, to name a few. CSUMB is also home to the Otter Cycle Center, which rents, repairs and stores bicycles, in addition to organizing bike trips for students. Biking is a great way to get around campus, makes a trip to the beach a breeze, and can even serve as your main mode of transportation around town. The university proudly fields 13 NCAA Division II athletic teams along with dozens of intramural sports and club sports. Although our athletic department is new relative to other U.S. universities, it has already distinguished itself with several championship trophies including national titles in men s golf in 2011 and in women s disc golf in SERVICE LEARNING CSUMB is recognized as a national leader in service learning and civic engagement and has earned the following distinctions: 2006, White House President s Award for Community Service in Higher Education Carnegie Foundation s Elective Classification in Community Engagement Annually, CSUMB s Service Learning Institute engages more than 2,000 students in service projects, totaling 65,000+ hours and over $1.7 million worth of activity. Service Learning is built into every undergraduate degree as a graduation requirement, and short-term and graduate students are likewise encouraged to participate. The Institute provides many opportunities in a wide variety of interest areas so that all students, regardless of major, can pursue projects that align with their passions.
