General Information Instead of using ten different control boxes in the cab, allows the operator to use one display for an entire fleet of implements. John Deere Tractor with GreenStar 2630 Display ( Compatible) Non-Deere Tractor with Six Different Control Units for Non- Implements What is? ISO: International Standardization Organization BUS: Binary Unit System BUS is a generic term to describe the physical connection between electronic components, such as: CANBUS CCDBUS allows customers to use one display that works with: Deere tractors and Deere implements 3

Deere tractors and non-deere implements Deere implements behind non-deere tractors AMS applications interfacing with Deere and non-deere products Compatibility check and diagnostic tools for machine combinations of John Deere and non-deere machines. To meet ISO11783 standard, is the first worldwide standard for dated communication between: Tractors Displays Implements Farm management software This user guide identifies components that support. 4

Connectors Detailed specification of connectors include: 9 pole in cab ISO connector: a tractor that is compatible has this connector somewhere in the cab. Implement Bus Breakaway Connector (IBBC): a tractor that is compatible has this connector somewhere in the rear. Implement Bus Breakaway Plug-in (IBBP), or ISO Plug-in: an implement that is compatible has this connector, to be able to connect to the tractor. Diagnostic Connector (Service Advisor Connector) Service Advisor Connector for John Deere machines 5

Standard connector for BUS extension is a four-pole Deutsch connector 6

CANBUS General Information What is CANBUS? CAN: Controller Area Network CANBUS is a harness that runs from the front of the machine to the rear. All controllers on the machine can communicate with each other using this CANBUS system. Controllers may include the engine controller, hydraulic controller, and transmission controller. CANBUS is four wire system, including CAN high (yellow), CAN low (green), CAN power (red), and CAN ground (black). Also, CANBUS contains an electric power supply, also referred to as the active terminator, with battery power and battery ground to keep CANBUS level at the desired Voltage. The picture above shows the active terminator as filter and voltage regulator. The passive terminator can be seen in the picture below. 7

CAN high and CAN low wires transmit data, or messages, on BUS using binary code (0 [power on]/1 [power off]). As shown in the picture above, voltage of both CAN high and CAN low is 2.5 V if there are no messages on the BUS. If a message is sent, CAN high increases 1 V, and CAN low decreases by 1 V during the time the bit is sent. Communication on the CANBUS The picture below shows how the GS and sprayer communicate with each other on a step-by-step basis. I am a VT. I am a Sprayer. What can you do? I speak English. I have a color 480 x 480 data mask area and 64 colors Display Here is my user interface. Operator input, such as opening the section Implement action, such as opening the section JD Sprayer John Deere Sprayer Messages transmitted on the CANBUS enable the communication between tractor and implement. Messages include loading the graphic user interface section control commands and documentation values, such as application rate. 8

Vehicle BUS Versus Implement BUS Vehicle CANBUS on tractor: Connects engine in front of the tractor with transmission and hydraulics in rear of the tractor and enables communication between them. Implement CANBUS on tractor: Connects GPS receiver, display (VT and TC), and Plug-in (IBBC) in rear of the tractor. Plug-in (Active Terminator) Passive Terminator GPS VT TC TECU Implement BUS Tractor BUS: 1. Transmission 2. Hydraulics 3. Engine extends the tractor implement CANBUS to the implement. This extension results in the implement and the tractor communicating over the same CANBUS system. Sensor Passive Terminator GPS VT TC Plug-in Active Terminator TECU Implement BUS Implement Controller 9

Virtual Terminal and Virtual Implement What is Virtual Terminal? Virtual Terminal (VT) is a part of the software of John Deere GreenStar 2 and GreenStar 3 displays. VT is a standardized display for all controller and implements on the BUS. John Deere Virtual Terminal offers a size of 640 x 480 pixels. The implement loads its graphic user interface, also referred to as Virtual Implement (VI), into the VT as indicated in the picture below, in this example the VI of a John Deere Sprayer is displayed by a Virtual Implement For Example: JD Sprayer 962i Virtual Display For Example: GreenStar When VI gets loaded into the 2630 display, a status bar will show how far the upload has progressed. Once the VI has been loaded into the Display it will be saved in the Displays internal memory. When the display detects the same implement again (for example after shutdown or disconnection) the display will load the VI out of its internal memory and display it. VT is comparable to a monitor on personal computers, which displays information processed by a control unit on the implement. This means that all pages shown in the VT (implement icon on main menu) are neither controlled nor handled by the 2630 Software. 10

What is Virtual implement? VT displays the Virtual Implement (VI) of the implements connected to the tractor CANBUS. VI is the graphic user interface of the implement. While the real implement (iron part) is located in the rear of the tractor, its user interface, the virtual part of the implement or VI, is located on the display. Since the VT is just displaying the VI, frozen VI pages are most likely to be caused by an overloaded implement control unit. VI retrieves input from operator and controls the implement. Pressing a button causes the implement controller to perform a specific movement of the implement, such as opening a section. John Deere 2630 Display can display multiple VI at the same time. For example: StarFire 3000 Machine SN: 3338 Display Message Center Layout Manager Performance Monitor Access Manager GreenStar Video Original GreenStar Monitor Calculator Standby Planter Air Cart To verify if VI and VT compatible: 1. Plug implement into ISO plug-in 2. Main Menu Check status bar of implement (GS only) John Deere 4. Check for conformance stickers on the implement 11

Theory of Operation Auxiliary Control Operator connects the -compatible joystick, implement, and 2630 display to the tractor CANBUS. Display, Joystick, and Implement Working Together Instead of pressing the implement softkey on the display to start the pickup of the implement, the operator can press a button on the joystick pickup will then start. to control the implement function. The a. Combining a joystick button with a specific implement movement or function is called assignment. 13

b. Auxiliary control assignments are stored on the implement for each implement or joystick combination. c. Assignments are loaded from the implement to the display at each startup. Assignment Operate or use d. After loading assignments, joystick can be used. e. John Deere 2630 Display provides a user interface for making assignments. Auxiliary Control Old Versus Auxiliary Control New There are two standards of auxiliary controls that are not compatible: Auxiliary Control Old (AUX-O) Auxiliary Control New (AUX-N) The implement, the VT, and AUX Control joystick need to use the same standard. For example: 14

Auxiliary Control on GreenStar Displays Description of the Symbols Assignment completed correctly.... Operator can use function when ISO AUX is enabled. Assignment has conflicts.... Function is disabled, while ISO Aux is enabled. Operator will need to identify and solve conflicts. Assignment completed correctly, but auxiliary control is disabled.... Operator needs to enable ISO Auxiliary controls. Assignment has conflicts and Auxiliary control is disabled.... A conflict appears when the operator tries to assign a function (example: stop machine), which requires to be assigned independent from other functions, in combination with an additional function (example: open the gate). Preferred assignment lock.... Assignment cannot be set manually. Function will be assigned to this button automatically. For example, a baler requires a special function (example: open the gate) to be assigned with the lower left button of the joystick. 15

Assignment lock bit.... Assignments marked with lock bit symbol cannot be combined with another function on the input device to avoid machine damage or personal injury. For example, a baler requires a specific function (example: open the gate) to be assigned on one button separately and independently from other functions. Conflict markers.... Conflict counter groups related conflicts together. All the conflicts with the same number are related to each other. A conflict appears when the operator tries to assign a function (example: stop machine), which requires to be assigned independent from other functions in combination with an additional function (example: open the gate). Assign Functions to Joystick Buttons In View field: 1. Main Menu Display... Display 3. Reconfigurable Controls Select Mapped to view active assignments. View Mapped To make assignments automatically: 1. Select Learn Mode. Status Learn Mode 16

NOTE: Implement will not take action while display is in Learn Mode. 2. Several possible assignments will be shown. For example: 3. Press button on joystick to assign the function that will appear on display. NOTE: Please refer to the operator s manual of the joystick to find out how to operate the joystick correctly. 4. Cursor jumps to the next possible assignment automatically. Repeat steps three and four for each function to be assigned. NOTE: Press down arrow to skip a function.... Manual Assignment 1. Use up and down arrows to navigate to desired function. 2. Select Un-mapped Select desired joystick out of the drop-down list. 4. Select Un-mapped Select desired button from drop-down list. 17

Task Controller Task Controller (TC) is a part of the software of the John Deere 2630 Display. As described by its name, TC controls one or several tasks. Those tasks are: John Deere Section Control or Swath Control... Map-based prescriptions... Documentation... TC client, or slave, is the dependent TC to the master controller on the 2630 display. TC client communicates with the operator using the VI and the equipment setup pages of the GreenStar display. Task Controller Client For Example: Spreader Task Controller (Master) For Example: 2630 Display When GreenStar 2630 is started, TC tells other controllers on the BUS of its presence. Unlike the VT, TaskController can only communicate with ONE implement connected to the In the list of all controllers, TC shows up as TSK 0XF7. To verify if TC is on the BUS: 1. Main Menu... 18

2. Message Center Control Unit... In the picture below, TC communicates with the BUS. It uses the acronym TSK and the address 0xF7. TC client will display most commonly underneath the Original GreenStar Monitor (OGM), which has the address 0x80. TC client commonly uses an acronym starting with a question mark and an address between 0x81 and 0x87, as indicated in the chart below. If master TC on GS display is inactive, TC client on implement is not able to communicate with it. Preconditions for TC to communicate properly: Both TC on 2630 display and TC client on implement need to be active, TC client on implement receives messages so that they can communicate with each other. For example, TC client on the implement receives section control messages (section ON/OFF) from the Task Controller on the display. If TC client on the implement is inactive, TC (master) on the display is not able to communicate with it. If the TC master on the display is inactive, the TC client on the implement is not able to communicate with it. 19

NOTE: This means that TC on the implement and on the GreenStar display has to be enabled for section control to work. Verify if the Implement Supports TC 1. Main Menu GreenStar GreenStar Main Equipment Machine tab... Machine 6. Ensure recording source is Auto Implement tab... Implement 8. Ensure Implement Type is grayed out... 20

Multiple Display If two displays, such as John Deere 2630 Display and GreenStar 3 Command Center, are connected to the same BUS, the VI runs completely independent from Section Control and Prescriptions. VT For Example: Command Center and Spreader VI TC Client For Example: Spreader TC For Example: 2630 Display As indicated in the picture above, the VI of the spreader is shown on the CommandCenter, while section control, guidance, and documentation run on the. In order to run a tractor with a multiple display configuration, both displays need to be configured correctly. For example, TC and VT can be switched off if it is not needed to display an implement GS3 CommandCenter. In addition, it is possible to assign priorities, or function instances, to TC and VT. Move Virtual Implement Between Displays NOTE: This functionality is only available if two displays are physically connected to the CANBUS and both displays have VT functionality enabled. For more information on how to enable VT, see Enable VT and TC section of this guide. On StarFire 3000, John Deere Implement Detection Controller, and isteer, move VI as indicated in the steps below between displays. 1. Main Menu Implement icon... 21

Diagnostics Before starting the diagnostic procedure, ensure the task controller of the specific software version is capable of performing the desired operation. Check the tables at end of this document to find out which display and which software Version is capable of which operation. Diagnostics - Implement VI Does not Appear on Display 1. Check if implement controller is connected to the CANBUS. a. Menu... b. Message Center... c. Control Unit... d. Select Implement CAN... Implement CAN e. Use arrows to navigate through the list of connected controllers to find the implement controller. NOTE: Most controllers show up with the address 81 through 87 and start with a question mark. So they can be found right underneath OGM. See task Controller section of this guide for more information. f. If controller does not appear on the BUS, there is a problem with the harness itself. This could be a broken wire, corroded pin, or loose connector. 27

2. Verify VT settings on display: A. Ensure that Function Instance (of primary display) for VT (implement BUS) is set to 1. As some implements only load the graphic user interface (VI) to VT with function instance 1... B. Ensure that VT is enabled (implement BUS is checked). C. If a multiple display configuration is used, ensure function instance (priority) of secondary display is set to a value of 2 or higher.... NOTE: Refer to enable VT and TC /Change Priority of VT and TC Section of this user guide for a step-by-step description of how to perform the steps above. 3. Delete implement VI from the display and reboot. This will force the implement to load its user interface completely new into the GreenStar display. This will solve the issue, if corrupt files have been loaded to the display before.
