3 Section 1: Installation 1.1 System Requirements The Win7Zilla software has minimum system requirements as outlined below: Processor: at least 1Ghz RAM: 512 MB Operating System architecture : Windows 7 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) Graphics: Resolution of at least 1024x768 pixel Free disk space: 20MB Internet Access: for activation If your computer is able to run any edition of Windows 7, it properly can run Win7Zilla. 1.2 Software Installation To start off, it is essential to make sure that the computer satisfies the system requirements. Also make sure the installer has administrative rights for the installation process. Win7Zilla itself also requires administrative rights to run. Download Win7Zilla_Setup.exe from and save it on the system Double click on the file to start the Setup program. If there is any previous version of Win7Zilla installed, the message will be displayed and asks for uninstallation. Click Yes to remove the previous Win7Zilla version. After the Welcome message, click the Next button to continue. The Cancel button can be used at any time to leave the installation. The license agreement will be displayed. The terms of the license agreement must be accepted before clicking Next. The Select Destination Location dialog will be displayed, showing the directory where Win7Zilla will be installed. To change this location, select Browse Click Next to display the Select Start Menu Folder. This will be the location that the Win7Zilla launch icon will be placed under the Start menu of Windows 7. Click Next to display the Select Additional Tasks dialog. The only one option is available: - Create a Desktop icon Click Next then Install to start copying the files to the PC. Click Finish to exit the installation. It is NOT required to reboot the PC to finalize the installation. 1.3 Uninstalling Win7Zilla software To uninstall the Win7Zilla software, launch Uninstall Win7Zilla from the Start->Programs menu. 3 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. 4 WIN7Z 7ZILLA - Section 2: Navigation 2.1 Main Screen General Overview Win7Zilla incorporates a multi-window graphical user interface with multiple distinct sections and a toolbar. These sections (identified in Figure 1) are: 1 Toolbar 2 Windows 7 Settings Menu and updates information 3 Settings Viewer Panel 4 Windows 7 Tools and Utilities 5 Search Panel A screen resolution of at least 1024x768 is required. 5 WIN7Z 7ZILLA Toolbar The toolbar that is placed at the top of the screen provides convenient access to a number of Win7Zilla functions. The functionality of each button is described as below. Button Description Quick Start Guide This button opens the quick start guide for brief information of how to use Win7Zilla. Import The users can use this option to import and use previously saved Windows 7 settings from other computer. The imported settings will be added to the pending list to be applied later. Export The users can save their current settings as a file to be used by another user on different computer. The file extension is w7z Settings The Settings button allows the users to view and alter defined settings in Win7Zilla. Including: Start-up, Password Protection, Auto Memory Optimization and Minimization settings. Help The button opens up this user guide. Feedback Clicking on this button to give us any feedback on your experience with Win7Zilla. This will take the user to the feedback form on our website. Guidance Text The text is displayed next to the Feedback button and shows the brief descriptions for each item on the main screen. The content changes when the cursor is hovered over a certain area. System Restore Point Manager The System Restore Point Manager allows the users to view and delete current restore points on their system and also quickly access to Windows 7 System Restore and Windows 7 System Protection. 5 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. 6 2.3 Windows 7 Settings Menu and updates information The menu on the left hand of the main Win7Zilla screen allows the user to get access to hundreds of options for Windows 7 s security and appearance customization purposes. To view the list of settings, click on the button of the category of interest. There are 6 main categories: Taskbar and Start Menu Desktop and Personalization System and security Control Panel Internet Explorer Windows Explorer Figure 2: The Windows 7 Settings Menu and updates status New updates are checked at the beginning of Win7Zilla start-up. If there is any update available, the users will be able to click on the blue message to open the download page on Win7Zilla s website. 2.4 Settings Viewer Panel See figure 3 for more details. The upper part displays the applied settings for every user on the system including the settings of the Local System that affects anyone who uses the system. The lower part displays pending settings that are selected by the user from the settings list. - To view the applied settings, select the user on the upper drop box. The current settings list will be updated automatically and show the applied settings for selected user. - To apply the pending settings to a certain user, select user on the lower drop box and click on Apply changes. - To remove any setting from the list, simply select the setting and click on the Remove 6 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. 7 - An additional dialog will open up to confirm the action and ask the users to choose to do the action with or without creating a Restore Point. Restore Point is triggered by Win7Zilla to ask Windows save your current system files and settings. The user can use Windows Restore Point manager to view, delete and revert the system back to a saved point. 8 2.5 Windows 7 Tools and Utilities The panel allows quickly accessing many useful tools and utilities that are included in Win7Zilla. More details for this can be found under Section Search Panel The search box is used to search for appropriate settings among hundreds of existing settings on the left menu. To start a search, enter the keywords on to the text box and press enter or click the search button. The found list which locates just below the search box will display the results. For more information of a setting that appears on the found list, simply double click on it. The setting s descriptions will be opened immediately. 9 Section 3: Settings See figure 6 for more information 3.1 Start-up Run Win7Zilla automatically when Windows starts: Use this option to start the Win7Zilla application on Windows 7 Start-up. 3.2 Password Protection Enabling this option prevents tampering of a user s settings by other unauthorized users. In order to use this feature, enter the secure password in the fields provided and click Apply. Ask for password when Win7Zilla starts: Choosing this option will ask the user to enter the password when starting up Win7Zilla. Ask for password when applying changes: Choosing this option will ask the user to enter the password when applying any new changes. Ask for password when accessing Win7Zilla Settings (this dialog): Choosing this option will ask the user to enter the password when accessing Win7Zilla Settings. 3.3 Memory Optimizer Turn on Auto Memory Optimization: Enabling this option will refresh the system RAM and optimize it based on usage every 5 minutes. 3.4 Minimization Minimize to System Tray instead of Taskbar: Enabling this option will place a tiny Win7Zilla icon in the System Tray and hide the Win7Zilla icon on the taskbar. 10 Section 4: Other Tools and Utilities 4.1 System Information Hardware Information Figure 7: System Information Main processor This option gives the users an overall overview of the main processor. Users can use this option to verify important data concerning the system processor. Key areas covered in this option are: - Processor Name. - Number of Core, Manufacturer. - Clock speed and Architecture type. BIOS Main board This option lists the details of the BIOS, the main program that kick-starts your system. User can use this option to: - View BIOS Processor name, manufacturer and health status. - List of main BIOS characteristics. This option allows the users to view motherboard details inside the system. Essential details that can be viewed in this option are: - Name, manufacturer, serial number. - Memory slots available, Primary and Secondary Bus types. Physical Memory Memory determines the main functioning speed the system. Users can use this option to view the details of each RAM in the allotted slots. This option lists: - Manufacturer, Part Number, Serial Number and data width. - RAM capacity, type and memory speed. 10 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. All rights reserved. 11 Video Adapter This option gives the user an overview of the Video adapter, including: - Adapter name, processor, memory type, compatibility issues, Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) type and more. - Refresh rates, both max and min - Horizontal and Vertical resolutions, Colours and Display drivers. Storage Details This option displays the physical storage details in the system. Information displayed includes: - Manufacturer, model, Firmware, Serial Number and capabilities. - Media type, S.M.A.R.T. support details, and total size. Network Adapter View details of your system network adapters such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc. This option lists in details of each adapter separately. This option also allows viewing the connection status of each network device. Adapter details that can be viewed include: - MAC addresses - IP addresses with version type - Server and Host name Battery Users can view detailed information of the battery. This option lists the battery health along with the designed voltage and Chemical type. Software Information Operating System The users can view their Operating System information in this section. It gives an overview of operating system details, such as Architecture, Serial No., Build Type, Service Pack version etc. Product Keys The users can view the Operating Systems product key in this section. The users also have the option to change the Windows 7 product key at the click of a button. Installed Applications This section gives detailed information of installed applications, the space they occupy, the installation date, and the installation location of each application. Scheduled Tasks This section lists all the tasks that are scheduled to run by the users and also displays their current status. 12 WIN7Z 7ZILLA OEM and User Information Figure 8: OEM and User Information - To change the OEM information, enter the information in the form, select the OEM logo and click Apply Changes button. The logo must be in BMP format and no larger than 120x120 pixel. All the fields are optional. - To change the User information, select Windows User Information tab and enter the information. Click Apply Changes to save the form. - To preview change, click the Preview button. 13 Windows 7 Start-up Manager is a very useful tool to analyse Windows 7 boot and start-up. Windows 7 boot logger works as a low level driver that attempts to monitor as much activities as possible during Windows 7 boot. It logs the time and names of system drivers and applications when Windows is starting. Start-up applications list all applications that are loaded when user is logging in the system. It allows the users adding or removing any applications. Boot Logger: - To log boot activities in next Windows 7 boot, click on Start Boot Monitoring. In Windows 7 64 bit (x64), Win7Zilla will ask for confirmation to temporarily disable digital driver signing signature. - Win7Zilla saves a copy of previous boot information when possible. Click on Load previous Boot Information to retrieve that data. - Click on Google selected file to open default web browser and search for information about the file. Start-up Applications: - This tool scans the system and displays all applications that run in the Windows start-up. To permanent remove any application, simply click on Permanent Remove button - To add a new application, click Add new Application button. The user must set a name for the Application and provide an appropriate path to the executable file. - Parameters or switches can be included and the start-up command shows simultaneously under the Preview section. 14 Application Start-up Timer: - To let Win7Zilla manage the application during Windows Start-up, select an application from Start-up Applications tab - Click on Move to Start-up timer List. The delay of 30 seconds is set by default however the user can change the value to any number between 1 and The start-up order is from bottom to top. To change the order, simply select and click on Move Up or Move Down button - To revert it back to Windows Start-up list, select an item and click on Move back to Windows Start-up list. 15 4.4 Application Speed booster Figure 13: Application Speed Booster - By enable Auto Speed Booster, Win7Zilla automatically increase the priority of active process or application to Above Normal or High - User can choose to apply quick memory optimization before changing the priority level. - User can manually change the priority level by selecting Change Priority Manually tab 4.5 Memory Optimizer Figure 14: Memory Optimizer - The system memory information is updated every half a second in Memory Optimizer. Users can see the free memory level on the graphical meter on the left hand. Other memory information such as total physical memory, total virtual memory (pagefile) is displayed in term of KiloByte (KB) and percent (%). 15 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. 16 - To perform a quick optimization, click on Quick Optimize - To perform an extreme optimization, select the target free memory on the scroll bar and click Extreme Optimize. The target level should not be greater than 50% of the current memory level or 95% of the total system memory. 4.6 Internet Connection Optimizer Figure 15: Internet Connection Optimizer - To enable Win7Zilla to handle the optimization, click on Automatic Optimize and apply changes. Users can apply with or without creating a Restore Point. More information about Restore Point can be found in Section To set Windows 7 default values, click on Set Windows Defaults. - To manually set the networking parameters, modify the parameter s value. When the user moves the cursor on the parameter, a tooltip displays to describe the meaning or definition of the parameter. 4.7 Files Cleaner Figure 16: File Cleaner 16 P a g e Copyright 2009 Sagitos Ltd. 17 - To detect unused files on the system, select the categories on the left menu and click on Scan button. - The total size of temporary files is shown on top of the found list. The size of Recycle Bin is also displayed next to the Recycle Bin select box. - To delete temporary files, click on Delete Selected Files. - The users can locate the files before deleting them Manual Scan: - To manually scan through your drive or folder, click on Manual Scan. - Select a folder or a drive by click on Browse - Click Scan Selected Folder This tool scans through selected folder and lists all files and sub-folders in tree-view style. 18 4.8 Registry Cleaner Figure 18: Registry Cleaner - To scan for invalid Registry entries, choose the areas of scan, click on Scan button and select the entries on the Found list. - Users can delete with or without creating a Restore Point by selecting Create Restore Point and Delete button or Delete Selected Values button. 19 WIN7Z 7ZILLA To change the logon screen, click on the Change Logon Screen button and locate the files on your system drive. The tool automatically resizes the image to match the system requirement. Currently it supports JPEG files only. - To set the Windows 7 default logon screen, click on the Default Logon Screen button. - To preview change, click the Preview button. It temporarily locks the computer to display the logon screen Windows 7 Utilities Easy Access Figure 20: Windows 7 utilities access list - The tool lists 29 official utilities provided by Windows 7. Brief description about each utility is shown by moving the cursor on the button. - Click on the button will open the utility that the button links to. 20 4.11 Gaming Performance Booster Figure 21: Gaming performance booster - To add a new application or service, click on the Add button. - To remove an existing service or application, select it and click on the Remove button. - The user can save the settings or reverse back to Win7Zilla s default settings by clicking on Set Default Settings and then Save Current Settings buttons. - Quick RAM Optimize is integrated in the Gaming Performance Booster to maximize the memory. - To switch to game mode, simply click on Switch to play Game Now button. It might take a while for Win7Zilla to turn off all services and applications. Attention: Switching off services and applications running on Windows 7 might affect the system security. 21 Section 5: Minimization and Product Activation 5.1 Win7Zilla on Windows 7 system tray By default, Win7Zilla is minimized on the system tray. To minimize it on the Taskbar, the user can change the minimization setting on Win7Zilla Settings (section 3) The users can right click on Win7Zilla s icon on the system tray to perform following actions: - Quick Optimize RAM - Turn on/off Auto RAM Optimization - Turn on/off Game Booster - Choose where the system should minimize Win7Zilla to - Turn on/off Auto Application Speed Booster - Open Application Speed Booster Dialog 5.2 Product Activation Figure 22: Win7Zilla on Windows 7 system tray The Activation Code is sent automatically to your after we receive your payment for the license of Win7Zilla. To activate Win7Zilla on your system, click on Activate on the welcome dialog at the beginning of the trial version. Then enter the Activation Code to the text box and follow the instruction, you can use the same form for reactivation process.
