If you are an off-campus employees, you will access the PFS database through the MSU VPN (Virtual Private Network) o o o o If you have never accessed MSU VPN before, start under How to Access MSU VPN Then continue with ACESSING PFS Database via MSU VPN (For Off-Campus Access) Then move on to CREATE Shortcut to ANR Shared Drive (S :) (For Off-Campus Access) Finally finish with ACESSING PFS Database Create PFS Shortcut on Desktop (For Everyone) If you are an on campus employee (you login to your computer with an ANR username and password) o Start with ACESSING PFS Database Create PFS Shortcut on Desktop (For Everyone) on page 6 HOW TO ACCESS MSU VPN If you have never logged in to MSU VPN, do the following: 1. Go to 2

3 2. On the VPN welcome screen, type in your MSU netid and password and click Sign In. 3. Once you are logged in to MSU VPN, click on to the far right of Network Connect to start the VPN session. 4. If you have never connected to MSU VPN, the dssetupapplet will want to run on your computer, click run if you see the screen below. 3

4 ACESSING PFS Database via MSU VPN (For Off-Campus Access) To access the PFS Database through MSU VPN, and then find and open the PFS database, do the following: 1. Login to MSU VPN via Network Connect on your computer. A. Go to Start C. Click on Juniper Networks folder B. Click on All Programs D. Click on Network Connect folder E. Click on Network Connect icon 2. A Network Connect Sign In window will open. Type in your MSU netid and password and click Sign In. Make sure URL shows here. If not, type it in. 4

5 CREATE Shortcut to ANR Shared Drive (S:) (For Off-Campus Access) 3. Next you will create a shortcut on your desktop for accessing the ANR Shared (S :) Drive. To create a shortcut on your desktop to the ANR Shared (S:) drive do the following: Note: If you already have a shortcut to the ANR Shared (S :) Drive; skip these next steps (3-5). A. Go to your desktop B. Right click on your mouse C. Click on New E. In the Type the location of the item: text box, type the file path to the ANR Shared (S :) Drive: \\fpsinsc08002.anr.msu.edu\anrshare$ F. Click Next D. Click on Shortcut 4. Type a name for the shortcut. In the example below, ANR Shared S Drive was used. Click Finish. 5

6 5. The shortcut you just created will appear on your desktop. Every time you need to access the PFS Database: A. Login to MSU VPN (if you are off campus by following the steps above) B. Once connected to VPN (if using) C. Double click on the ANR Shared S Drive shortcut on your computer desktop. D. You will be prompted for you ANR username and password. Enter it and click OK. ACESSING PFS Database Create PFS Shortcut on Desktop (For Everyone) 1. Locate the ANR Shared Drive (S :) and open it. Once the Shared Drive is open A. Double click the folder MSUE to open it B. Inside the MSUE folder, double click the folder MSUE PFS to open it 6

7 2. Inside the MSUE PFS folder locate the folder Copy TO C and double click to open it. 3. Inside the Copy TO C folder, you will find a folder titled PFSDatabase this is the current PFS database. 7

8 4. Right click on the folder PFSDatabase and choose Copy from the dropdown menu. 5. Open either: My Computer (if you are using Windows XP) or Computer (if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7) and find your Local Disk (C :) drive. Double click your Local Disk (C :) to open it. 8

9 6. Inside your Local Disk (C :) you will see folders like; Program Files, Users, Windows (and others). You Will Folders Like: Program Files, Windows and Users Here 7. Right click in the White Space of this window and choose Paste from the dropdown menu. Wait for the files to copy; it should go quickly. Right Click in the White Space Here and Choose Paste 9

10 8. Next open the copied folder labeled PFSDatabase. 9. Locate the file labeled PFSDatabase2.mdb and right click on the file. 10

11 10. Select Send To from the dropdown menu and then choose Desktop (create shortcut) from the sub-menu that will pop-up. 11. A shortcut for the PFS Database will now be on your desktop that you can open anytime you need to access and use the database. 11

12 12. If you were using the MSU VPN, you will need to sign out of the service. To sign out of MSU VPN do the following: A. Double click the Network Connect icon on the Windows Taskbar B. In the Network Connect window, click Sign Out 12
