Peter Väterlein Course content: Reference material: Ability to familiarize with new engineering problems in the field of information technology, to understand scientific and technical further developments and to be able to pursue in the long run. In the course of the study research project the student works on an intern subject-matter within the labs of the faculty under the supervision of a professor. A special emphasis will be on a professional approach. 7 German History and Culture International Office All incoming students none This course will offer knowledge and understanding of German history, politics, society, and mentality. It will help to get a broader approach to Germany and its culture. Course content: Introduction to the country s geography and main regions Detailed overview of German History from Early Medieval times to the 20th century, including the impacts on the adjoining countries. Germany and its Nazi-period crimes as a European catastrophe Development of post-war Germany into a respected member of the European Community History of industrialisation and the economic changes in recent decades Explanation of the political and social system of the contemporary Bundesrepublik Deutschland Presentation of various aspects of modern German life, for example religion, immigration, Discussion of values, the relationship between men and women. 8 German as a Foreign Language (DaF) Course content: Assessment: Type of instruction: International Office All incoming students During orientation students participate in a brief written and interview to evaluate which course fits best. Consolidation of previous learning, improvement of grammatical skills, and preparation for studies in the subject courses. Small groups allow students an active exchange of ideas with teachers and other students. Students are encouraged to present and develop their own thoughts under expert guidance. During the courses students will apply skills required for communication in the German standard language and - for advanced learners- in the scientific language. 9 International Project Management (IWB 401) Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Christian Cseh 4th semester none Students should gain an overview of the demands a project managers and project co-workers have. They should independently carry out a project plan using network planning techniques with the appropriate tools and methods. They should carry out a small project using the MS project approach. Practical relevance: the project is of practical relevance (especially IT projects) Course content: Initialising, planning, carrying out and completing a project.
