2 Project and Change Management (lecture) N.N 2 5 Seminar (in English) Heinzl Course description Information Management (in English) Contents: Information Management This course is designed for students who wish to achieve a broad overview of important information systems management issues. It elaborates on the interconnectedness of information technology, business tasks and human beings as the constituent elements of information systems (IS) and the role of information as both an input and output of IS. Based on this understanding, it introduces concepts of IS planning, strategizing, organizing and controlling. All topics will be discussed from an academic perspective as well as from a practical perspective. Case Studies in Information Management (in English) Contents: Case Studies in Information Management This case study course complements the course "Information Management". It illustrates selected information systems management issues. The main objective is to better understand and to apply the concepts taught in the course. Students are required to analyze cases as well as to write an own case study within a team effort. Artificial Intelligence I
3 Contents: Artificial Intelligence I The course is aimed at students who are interested in concepts of artificial intelligence. It deals with modelling and emulation of intelligent systems and intelligent behavior patterns. The objective of this course is to introduce traditional as well as modern artificial intelligence techniques. It will explore aspects of computational models of intelligence including problemsolving, search, knowledge representation, deduction, planning and learning. A focus of the course is on evolutionary computation methods. The course is organized as a survey, with assignments focusing on hands-on experience on selected fundamental topics. Artificial Intelligence II Type of course: exercise Contents: Artificial Intelligence II In this course, selected methods of artificial intelligence are demonstrated. Theoretic aspects as well as real-world applications of techniques like Evolutionary Optimization, Artificial Neural Networks or Fuzzy-Logic (Fuzzy-Systems) are presented and trained on by examples and exercises. Finally, combinations of these three techniques are illustrated. Mobile Business Type of course: exercise (in English) seminar paper and presentation ECTS Credits 5 Contents: Mobile Business The seminar addresses mobile business solutions, which represent a current development in the field of electronic business. Mobile business solutions are expected to grow significantly within the next few years. The emergence towards mobile business solutions is
4 driven by technological innovations and the integration of Internet and mobile, resp. wireless communication techniques. Other relevant aspects are the increasing demand towards mobility, which allows customers and companies to perform business everywhere and at any time via portable devices like mobile phones, laptops or PDAs. The seminar addresses important aspects of mobile business from the information systems perspective. The topics can be classified into three different groups: The first group provides the conceptual foundations for mobile business. Topics are the research objectives and methods in the field of mobile business as well as the underlying technologies of mobile business. The second group derives - from a theoretical view - the obstacles and drivers of the use of mobile services. The last group investigates applications of mobile business solutions in different domains. Furthermore, it discusses the question of how the success of mobile commerce can be measured. Students are to prepare and present a research paper. Active participation during the course and successful completion of the research project are necessary for the acquisition of a seminar certificate which is required to write a diploma thesis. Process Management Contents: Process Management In this lecture, theoretical and practical concepts of modelling, analyzing and implementing business processes with the help of information and communication technologies are presented. Economic foundations as well as theoretical and methodical knowledge are communicated. Information Systems in the Services Industry Contents: Information Systems in the Services Industry In this lecture, selected function and process architectures in the logistics, aviation, health
5 care and financial services are considered. Data and Knowledge Management Contents: Information Systems in the Services Industry In this course, concepts of data and knowledge management are presented. Initially, data modelling techniques, database models and implementation issues are considered. Then, knowledge elicitation, knowledge modelling and knowledge storage are considered. Finally, aspects of data warehouses and data and knowledge mining are demonstrated. The course will include some practical exercises which help students to better understand and apply the concepts. Project and Change Management Contents: Project and Change Management This course is concerned with project planning, project organization and project controlling. Moreover, the management of planned organizational change and team techniques are discussed. Seminar Type of course: seminar (in English) Examination: no Contents: Topic and details will be announced by the end of winter term 04/05.
