3 Part 2: Detailed Information on the Modules General Information: - Every module generally takes one semester. - Further information regarding requirements for passing exams (prerequisite for gaining credits) can be found in the Examination Regulations. 1. Business Administration Mathematics (Mathematics of Finance, Linear Algebra) Credits acc. to ECTS 5 On-campus (hours/week) 4 Off-campus (hours/week) 6 The first part of this unit is concerned with the basics of business-related applications in the field of Financial Mathematics (calculation of interest and compound computation of interest, investment, annuity computation, loan and sinking fund calculation, bond valuation and calculation of overall return of investment). The second part covers the basic business-related applications of Linear Algebra (matrix calculation, internal cost allocation, linear systems of equations, linear optimization). Students learn the basic methods of Mathematics of Finance and Linear Algebra, their business-related fields of application as well as how to implement them. Principles of Accounting 1
4 Principles of bookkeeping and balancing Spring semester Gaining knowledge of bookkeeping and bookkeeping techniques as well as of balancing and assessment of individual financial statements Management Accounting This unit introduces cost and earnings accounts as a controlling instrument supporting operative and strategic decisions-making processes. Against this background, different systems of cost-earnings calculation and profit planning are presented and completed by cost control. Management, Marketing Spring semester Students are to acquire knowledge of and apply different concepts in the field of Management Accounting based on specific decisions and business 2
5 contexts. Finance This unit provides an overview of managerial decisions in the context of investment and finance. Methods of static and dynamic investment, institutional characteristics of credit- and equity financing and possibilities for internal financing are described in detail. Decisions in the context of imperfect capital markets are of particular importance in order to work out the interdependences between investment and financing decisions in companies. Participants of this unit are familiarized with fields of application of different investment methods and learn how to make decisions with certainty employing the most prevalent methods from practice. Moreover, they know the most important funding sources of companies and are able to assess common securities employing cash methods. Marketing 3
6 Fundamentals of Marketing management: theoretical, information-oriented, strategic, instrumental and institutional aspects Overview of the fundamental issues and tasks of Marketing Understanding of argumentative Marketing-related concepts Application of basic mathematic methods Operations Management Outline of production and cost theory, concepts of manufacturing strategies, approaches to Operations Management, production planning and control Mathematics, Management, presentation This unit provides students with an understanding of substantial concepts and theories in the field of Operations Management. 4

It conveys knowledge that is necessary in the context of Management. This includes strategic management, controlling, the structural organization of companies as well as organizational behavior. Furthermore, students are taught to analyze legal regulations and effects of company codetermination and of HR management. understand and explain Principles of Management, Management Goals and Systems, Management Process and Competence - coherences, problems and solutions in the context of management - tasks, operational field and instruments of a controller 5

9 and study group Credits acc. to ECTS 3 On-campus (hours/week) 4 Off-campus (hours/week) 2 This unit deals with the ethical responsibility that economic players in general and companies in particular have to take in decision processes and in any action taken for their respective institution in order to ensure the success of the organization in an ethical manner. B.Sc. Business Administration Students are to evaluate decision processes in companies with regard to ethical aspects. 2. Business Informatics Business Informatics I Credits acc. to ECTS 4 Off-campus (hours/week) 5 In the first half, an overview of modern information processing, e.g. computer architecture, data structure and programming concepts is provided. Following this, further concepts of distributed information and communication systems are covered, among others, architecture models, network technologies and safety concepts. Moreover, current 7
10 trends such as Service Oriented Architectures and XML are discussed. B.Sc. Business Administration Spring semester The aim of the unit is to provide students with an overview of the structure and development of modern information and communication systems. This includes an insight into subject-specific language of information processing as well as the assessment and evaluation of problems in the area of computerized information processing. Business Informatics II This unit conveys basic knowledge in software development for business applications (Java). Business Informatics I B.Sc. Business Administration Students acquire basic knowledge in OOP, SQL as well as UML and apply it in a case study. Business Informatics III 8
