2 Bachelor Program Courses Information Systems Development Programme of Study/Track: GM (Business Information Systems) Semester: ECTS: 10 Contents of Module and Goals: Grading: This first introductory module of the track Business Information Ssystems comprises an overview of the essential components of information systems and the process of developing and implementing them. In the first part (first semester) a data-oriented approach is chosen as opposed to the second (second semester) where students are to understand the object-oriented paradigm both on a conceptual level and on the basis of specific object-oriented technologies and languages. As the object-oriented development paradigm is characterized by a seamless integration of analysis, design, and programming, the student will focus on this process approach. When looking at specific languages, the participants will get familiar with languages for analysis/design as well as programming. Thus, they will work with the Unified Modelling Language (UML) and the programming language Java. Getting familiar with these languages implies that students are to put their conceptual knowledge into practice via hands-on exercises in lab sessions where they use state-of-the art modelling tools and development environments. Apart from interactive lectures and hands-on exercises the students will work on smaller projects in groups of moderate size. Upon completion of the module, participants are able to develop database applications in business-related domains by following a process-oriented approach based on the phases analysis, design, and programming. They have understood the object-oriented paradigm and can put it into practice based on the UML and Java. 300 Examination points, thereof: 45 Examination points evaluated exercise/presentation Introduction to Information Systems 60 Examination points evaluated exercise/projects Data Modelling and Databases 30 Examination points evaluated exercise/presentation Software Engineering 45 Examination points evaluated exercise Object-oriented Programming 120 Examination points final module exam

5 Enterprise Modelling & Enterprise Systems Programme of Study/Track: GM (Business Information Systems) Semester: 3 ECTS: 6 Contents of Module and Goals: Grading: Modelling in software engineering is usually focused on the development of a specific software system. The goal of enterprise modelling (business engineering) is to improve the performance of an enterprise through formal modelling, the application of appropriate concepts, best practices, and information technology. Enterprise modelling is used as a business transformation tool, i.e. in situations of business process re-design or when implementing enterprise systems. The basics of enterprise systems, common types (e.g. ERP; CRM, SCM), their architecture and tailoring approaches are covered in the second course of the module. In the enterprise modelling course students are to work on a group project where they have to apply the project planning skills acquired during their first semester module "Introduction & Business Game". The modelling skills acquired during the course will be reapplied in later modules such as "Innovation and Quality Management". In the enterprise systems course, topics covered in earlier modules such as Accounting I, Value Chain Management and Strategic Management will be taken up and reconsidered with respect to the way they are implemented in packaged solutions (e.g. mysap ERP). The module uses interactive lectures, hands-on exercises and lab sessions, demonstrations of solutions, practioners' presentations, case studies and a group project to allow students first-hand experience in applying state-of-the-art enterprise modelling methods and tools. Upon completion of the module students know when to use and how to apply methods and tools for modelling large, complex, and adaptable enterprises on the basis of state-of-the-art modelling toolsets (e.g. ARIS Toolset). In real life situations they will be able to understand whether and how enterpise modelling can help and be aware of the risks and limitations of this approach. They will understand the architecture of enterprise systems (based on specific solutions such as the mysap Business Suite) and will have gained insight into the selection and implementation processes and the problems encountered in implementation projects. 180 Examination points, thereof: 20 Examination points intermediate exam Enterprise Modelling 60 Examination points evaluated project Enterprise Modelling 40 Examination points case study Enterprise Systems 60 Examination points final module exam
