1 General description of the degree program Name: Business Information Systems Qualification awarded: Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Business Information Systems Level of qualification Qualification requirements and regulations Alternative study option: Key learning outcomes Profile of the program Occupational profiles of graduates Program duration: second-cycle n/a Dual master s degree in cooperation with Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France) The aim of the Business Information Systems master s degree is to enable graduates to conduct and independently lead the selection, planning, and development of IT systems for the strategic and operative management of companies. Students therefore acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in shaping company processes and setting up, implementing, and integrating IT systems and systems supporting the decision-making process. Business Information Systems graduates are capable of choosing, developing, and applying suitable methods and procedures to analyze business-related IT systems; can develop models, apply models to actual situations in business, evaluate the results, abstract problems, and carry out improvements on models and methods; supervise and even lead processes to realize strategic aims and project aims in a company; can evaluate stages of development and assess new technologies according to their use in the company; work in and lead international teams. This is a research-oriented master s program focusing on the area of IT systems for business management. The program is characterized by small groups and a solid basic education with interrelated theoretical and practical components, and a high educational quality, confirmed by national rankings, e.g. of WirtschaftsWoche magazine or CHE. The program aims at enhancing, at the same time, professional skills as well as methodical and analytical skills, and key qualifications such as leadership abilities and interdisciplinary problem solving. Graduates typically support the decision-finding process of the strategic management by decision support and control systems, by analyzing business processes, and by evaluating operating figures and risks; work as supervisors and coordinators to realize strategic aims; work as leaders of international teams. 3 semesters including master s thesis Pre-study work experience: Not required Specific admission requirements Bachelor s or equivalent qualification in the field of business information systems, computer science, or a field with similar content, with an average grade of 2.3 or ECTS grade B and a workload of 210 ECTS credits. Graduates holding a bachelor s degree with a workload of 180 ECTS only are required to pass 30 ECTS worth of additional courses from the HsKA bachelor s program. For students from abroad: proof of satisfactory knowledge of German.

Motivation letter required. Voluntary assessment Results achieved in theory or practical courses of an academic degree program at a recognized higher education institution can be transferred to HsKA according to ECTS recognition procedures upon express request, if the Board of Examiners acknowledges these results to be comparable in terms of level, subject content and extent. Relevant job experience amounting to at least 1 year following a 6- semester bachelor s degree can be evaluated by the Admissions Committee as being equivalent to a seventh semester, in accordance with the EU Commission s plans to introduce an European Qualification Framework. Prior learning must be in a similar or related subject.
