1 Objective: The students will understand what makes an effective advertisement. The students will analyze advertisements for fact and opinion. The students will design and create their own advertisements for a variety of media. Engage Introduce advertising and ask students to discuss some memorable advertising they have seen. What makes them buy one brand over another? Today we will be exploring the persuasion of advertising. Explore View the LP 4 PowerPoint The Persuasion of. Discuss the types of advertising and for which type of product it is most effective. Students are consumers of a large amount of advertising and will have background knowledge they don t know they have. Discuss fact and opinion in advertising using the PowerPoint. Explain At MarketPlace, there are three advertisers, the Radio Station, the WebDesign and the Newspaper. Students will create three advertisements for their shop. Each shop has a budget of $25 for advertisement. The students will decide how to best use their budget. Show the Advertisement Options Menu. Each shop will choose how to best use their $25.

2 Elaborate The students will work as shop groups to create their advertisements. Students should use a variety of forms of persuasion, creativity, and their personal touches to make the ads memorable and have interesting. Evaluate The teacher will observe the students for understanding and participation. The students will complete advertisements using three different media.

3 MarketPlace Procedures The Newspaper, Radio and WebDesign have ad agents who will visit your shop during the first part of the day to pick up your ad. The shop accountant should cut the check for the ads as part of the SMART process at the beginning of the day. The ad agents should collect the ad even if they check is not ready. The Ad Agent will use the Ad Agent Checklist to keep records of who has paid, etc. Ad Newspaper Media Microsoft Word WebDesign Radio PowerPoint Slide Audacity or other program to produce a MP3 file Creating Ads Newspaper and WebDesign ad may be made in a variety of media. Students may use PowerPoint or Microsoft Word. The ads can be saved as Word, PowerPoint or pdf. Students may also create the ads on paper. If the ads are created on paper, please insure they are the collect size for the newspaper ad. A printed ad cannot be resized in the Newspaper shop. The WebDesign has a scanner and can scan your paper ads. Great WebDesign ads are colorful and eye-catching. See instructions for Audacity files. Note that ALL ads can be done on paper. The DJ will read the ad as it is printed. Only Radio employees may talk on the radio. The completed ads should be placed in the Shop Envelope. Make note on the Shop Envelope Cover Sheet the amount to each advertiser.

4 Options Menu Student may use their $25 advertising budget in any combination using these options. Shops must create and purchase one of each type of media. Shops must use all of their $25 advertising budget.
