1 Lesson 04 - Plan Year 7 Unit title: Lesson 04 Lesson Plan Key concepts Visual Media: Poster Collaborative learning Date: Time: No. of pupils Period Key learning objectives By the end of the lesson, pupils will: Be able to demonstrate their understanding of media through their own poster Be able to work together with others Lesson content Teacher activity and teaching points and pupil activities/tasks Time (min) Pupils enter room and take seats in silence; registration 2 Starter: Review and sharing of previous lesson s homework. Ensure the work was done, and that Point-Evidence-Explain were properly used. Time allowing, demonstrate teachable examples of pupils work. Explain that the pupils will now be creating a poster of their own for Barnardo s. This is an assessment. Tell them that the best poster from each year 7 class will be sent to Barnardo s and they will pick the best poster from the different schools who are participating across the country. Display and distribute (or have pupils copy down) resource 4A: Task Sheet. Review: quickly look over the assessment criteria. Display and distribute (or have pupils copy down) resource 4B Main: Pupils will work alone or in pairs to create a poster. They have this lesson and one more in which to create their poster. They do not need to use computers for this. Their poster must contain enough text for assessment as an EN3 piece. They are being assessed on layout, text, image and style/font. They will also have an opportunity to peer assess each other s work. Distribute and display resource 4C. Pupils must fill in the planning sheet before 1

Pupils begin the task. 25 Plenary: Have pupils share with the rest of the class what they have produced to date. 10 Differentiation (Plans for: the most able pupils; the less able; pupils with SEN; EAL learners) SEN:- Lower:- Middle:- Top:- Resources/Materials Poster-making materials Worksheets Homework None (Continue with Lesson 05) Assessment: EN3 Poster Assessment at end of project / lesson 05 Peer Assessment of project Send us the best poster from each year 7 class. We will choose the best poster amongst all the schools participating across the country and the winning poster will be uploaded on to our Barnardo s website along with a photograph of the winning pupils. The closing date for the competition is the 1 May every year. The winner will be announced by 1 June, so keep checking the website for the results! 3 Lesson 04 - Resource 4A Lesson 04 - Plan Barnardo s needs your help! The charity is looking for creative children to produce a new poster for Barnardo s. The best poster from each class in year 7 will be sent to Barnardo s, and the best overall piece of work may even be published on their website! Task Working with a partner or on your own, design, write and produce an advertisement poster for the charity. Begin with the planning sheet and then create the final version on a piece of A3 paper. Your poster must: Advertise one of the issues the charity is concerned with (Child Carers, poverty, homelessness, etc...) Include enough text to be assessed Include the Barnardo s logo Show effective use of layout, image, text and font/style This assessment does not require any ICT skills! Be creative and give it your best effort! 3
4 Lesson 04 - Resource 4B pupil Poster assessment Your poster will be assessed according to four (4) criteria: 1. Is your poster imaginative and interesting? Does it catch the audience s attention? Is it creative? Does it show effort and care? 2. Is your poster effective at advertising the issues of a children s charity? Does your poster deal with an issue that Barnardo s deals with? Is it clear from your poster what you want from the viewer? Does it have an impact on the audience? 3. Do you make good use of text, image, layout and font/style? Have you included a creative and attention-grabbing image? Does your poster s layout clearly present your information? Have you included enough text? Is it persuasive? Have you used multiple fonts/styles to enhance your text? 4. Is your poster free of spelling mistakes? Send us the best poster from each year 7 class. We will choose the best poster amongst all the schools participating across the country and the winning poster will be uploaded on to our Barnardo s website along with a photograph of the winning pupils.
