3 Educational Services for Students (ESS) FPB Graduate Students Participate in English Seminar The School of Nursing's international graduate students learned more about American culture, food and restaurants, idiomatic language, English writing skills, social interaction and American history during a seminar by Educational Services for Students (ESS). Seven students from five different countries participated in the sixweek seminar. Elise Geither conducted the sessions. Alumni News Dr. Muayyad Ahmad, FPB alumnus from Jordan, received the 2015 Distinguished Researcher Award in the Health Field from the University of Jordan. Dr. Sunida Preechawong, FPB alumna from Thailand, was awarded "Outstanding Research Award in Tobacco Control," during the 10th Anniversary of the Tobacco Control and Knowledge Management Center (TRC). This center has been supported by Thai Health Promotion Foundation. 3 nursing.case.edu

June 5-20, 2015 and Oct 12-21, 2015 Celeste Alfes: presenter at the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Leaning Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. June 10-13, 2015 Joyce Fitzpatrick, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN represented ICN President Judith Shamian at the UN launch of the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative (PHCPI) on September 26, 2015 in New York. The event was hosted by Germany s Chancellor Angela Merkel, Norway s Prime Minister Erna Solbery, and Ghana s President John Dramani Mahama. 4 nursing.case.edu
5 Exchange students Hong Kong Eight exchange students from the University of Hong Kong visited FPB from April 13-26, Students attended classes, visited local health care facilities, and met local officials including Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson (fifth from right). The next program will be March 21-April 10, Ireland Two exchange students from National University of Ireland, Galway visited FPB from May 15-June 12, Dr. Mary Quinn Griffin mentored the group and arranged their clinical experience at the Cleveland Clinic. The students also visited local health centers. 5 nursing.case.edu
6 Educational Training Programs: Flight Nursing Dr. Jorge Corchado Cruz with a group of 29 students from the EDP University of Puerto Rico visited FPB and attended the Flight Summer Camp July 16-19, Plans are in process to repeat this experience in summer An agreement between FPB and the University of Puerto Rico is in process. Geriatric Nursing Education Program The FPB School of Nursing hosted a group of eight nursing students from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan for the month of July for the second educational program in geriatric nursing. The program included presentations by FPB faculty on geriatric nursing, visits to local nursing homes, and the Visiting Nurses Association (VAN). Each participant was given a certificate for successfully completing the program. 6 nursing.case.edu
7 Guatemala Trip August 1-8, 2015 Nine MSN students went to Guatemala as volunteers with Refuge International August 1-8, Drs. Margaret Bobonich and Chris Winkelman were their preceptors. This primary care team consisted of nurse practitioners specialized in family practice and critical care. They provided services in a rural area where there is no access to health services. Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing organizes two trips per year, one in August and another in October. See FPB students in action below. 7
8 Welcome our new faculty members Mary F. Terhaar, DNSc Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Terhaar directed the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Johns Hopkins University. Her research focus is on workforce and neonatal scholarship development and she has considerable experience with curriculum design and ongoing evaluation. Joachim Voss, PhD, RN, ACRN Director, Sarah Cole Hirsh Institute Dr. Voss is a former associate professor in bio-behavioral nursing and health systems and adjunct associate professor in global health at the University of Washington. His research portfolio has focused on HIV-related symptom management of fatigue, and the identification of biomarkers for fatigue. Faculty Awards and Announcements Stephanie Steiner, MSN, RN, ACNP, director of the Dorothy Ebersbach Academic Center for Flight Nursing, was voted onto the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) Board of Directors. She also received the 2015 Katz-Mason Award from the ASTNA. The award is for demonstrated excellence and significant contributions in transport nursing. Elizabeth Madigan, PhD, RN, FAAN, Independence Foundation Professor, received an R25 Research Education Grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health for her project, "Bridges to the Doctorate in Nursing for Northeastern Ohio." Ronald L. Hickman, Jr., PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, associate professor, received an R01 Research Grant from the National Institute Nursing Research, National Institutes of Health, for his project, "A Clinical Trial of Decision Support for End of Life Care Among Surrogate Decision Makers of the Chronically Critically Ill." Donna Dowling, PhD, RN, professor, received the Distinguished Service in Neonatal Nursing Award from The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN). 8 nursing.case.edu
9 Faculty Awards and Announcements Chao-Pin Hsiao, PhD, RN, assistant professor, received a grant award from the National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institutes of Health for her research, "Mitochondrial Bioenergetics Mechanism of Cancer-Related Fatigue." Sonya D. Moore, MSN, CRNA, director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program, received a Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship grant funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Jaclene A. Zauszniewski, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, Kate Hanna Harvey Professor in Community Health Nursing, and the director of the PhD in Nursing Program, received a Nurse Faculty Loan Program grant funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Shirley M. Moore, RN, PhD, FAAN, the Edward J. and Louise Mellen Professor of Nursing; Associate Dean for Research, received a grant award for "Multiple Chronic Conditions: Interdisciplinary Nurse Scientist Training," from the National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institutes of Health. Evanne Juratovac, PhD, RN, GCNS-BC, assistant professor, received an Alumni Legacy Award from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health. Nirmala Lekhak, BSN, RN, PhD student, won the Next Generation of Care Award at the Faces of Care Gala, hosted by Cleveland Magazine and the Greater Cleveland Nurse Association. The fifth annual Faces of Care Gala honored Northeast Ohio area nurses who are making a difference. Ana Laura Solano López, PhDc, BSN, RN, PhD student, received an award from the Alumni Association of the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing for her study, "The Relationships Among Body Awareness, Self-Regulation, Self- Management, and Blood Pressure in Adults with Hypertension." 9 For more information see:
