Code Fund Name Description Type of Fund 6920 Frances Crittenden Nurse Practitioner The Frances Crittenden Nurse Practitioner was created to fund an annual award of at least $100 to be given to a Nurse Practitioner student in the MCG School of Nursing. The award is to be given to a senior nurse practitioner student who has demonstrated excellence and creativity in course work and clinical NP practice. Award MCG Nurse Practioner Program faculty will nominate candidates with final selection made by the School of Nursing Committee based on these additional factors: (1)The recipient demonstrates caring behaviors with peers, faculty and patients and shows evidence of involvement in MCG community and/or professional activities; (2) The recipient shows evidence of increased personal awareness and growth through sensitivity to others as well as superior communication skills and accountability Hildegard Peplau/Lore K. Wright Award The Hildegard Peplau/Lore K. Wright Award was created to fund awards to MCG nursing students who exemplify excellence in the application of psychotherapeutic interventions with patients. The selection of award recipient(s) will be made by the MCG School of Nursing Committee Col. Vera Nolfe Anderson Memorial Endowment Provide a scholarship to an undergraduate/graduate nursing student in the College of Nursing at GHSU. Selection will be determined by the College of Nursing Committee based on this priority: 1. To a student who plans to pursue a military nursing career (primary preference Army) 2. To a student from an active duty military family who is pursuing a nursing career 3. To a retired military student who is pursuing a nursing career 4. To a student from a retired military family who is pursuing a nursing career 6924 Sarah Goodrich Amos, R.N. (Joan W. Lawson) School of Nursing To provide scholarships in the School of Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia Lucy Edythe White Marion The Lucy Edythe White Marion was created to provide scholarship to an undergraduate student, in the School of Nursing at MCG, pursuing a BSN degree. Selection will be made by the SON scholarship committee and based on need Sibyl Bickers Hodnett Endowment The Sibyl Bickers Hodnett Endowment was established to provide a scholarship to an undergraduate student in the College of Nursing at the Georgia Health Sciences University pursuing a BSN degree. 2 6962 Ralph W. and Harriet H. McAfee Endowment The Ralph W. and Harriet H. McAfee Endowment was created to award an annual scholarship to a graduate student based on merit and financial need, who plans to pursue a nursing career in gerontology. The individual must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and be able to demonstrate financial need. The applicant will submit an essay addressing why he/she thinks gerontology is an important specialty in nursing. A School of Nursing faculty member who teaches graduate students, with preference given to a faculty member with an interest in gerontology, will be appointed by the SON Dean to select the award recipient Ruth Vande Velde Mullins Endowment To fund an annual scholarship award of $1000 to an MCG nursing student who has a 2.8 GPA and who writes a one page statement of purpose/goals (to be reviewed and selected by a committee assigned by the School of Nursing Dean). Priority will be given as follows: 1) to a graduate nursing student who is interested in a career in nursing education; 2) to a graduate nursing student; 3) to any nursing student Emily Flanders Nairn Endowment For graduate nursing scholarships for students who focus their studies on any aspect of addiction or its consequences with preference give to applicants who demonstrates financial need. In absense of financial need, only the addiction related condition will apply Dr. Elizabeth "Betty" Farren Pond Endowment To provide scholarships to undergraduate students in the School of Nursing Rhonda & Lloyd Graybeal Endowment To The Rhonda & Lloyd Graybeal Endowment was created to recognize a graduating senior who best demonstrates the pursuit of excellence in pediatric nursing. An annual award of a minimum $100 will be given to a graduating senior who demonstrates academic excellence and a commitment to practicing as a pediatric nurse in the Children's Medical Center. The candidate will be nominated by the School of Nursing faculty. This fund also is to maintain the Lloyd E. Graybeal conference room in the Health Science Building Lillian D. Wald Community Nursing Endowment The Lillian D. Wald Community Nursing Endowment was created to provide an annual cash award to the outstanding senior nursing student for clinical practice in community nursing. 3 6996 MCG Health Inc. Nursing Scholar Endowment Fund To establish an endowment fund to support the SON at MCG. To be used for the educational needs of nursing students, with preferences for masters and doctoral students, at the discretion of the Dean of the SON. If at any time in the future, due to program and/or organizational changes, a need does not exist for this account or if the terms and provisions of this agreement should conflict with any federal, state, or local laws, statutes, regulations or ordinances, the Board of Directors of the Foundation, in consultation with the Donor and the Dean of the SON, may assign use of income which will come as near as possible to fulfilling the wishes of the donor. Should the parties fail to reach agreement regarding such alternative use, the funds shall be refunded to the Donor or its sucessor in interest Donna M. Fair Endowment (Award) The Donna M. Fair Scholar Award was established in 1999 in memory of Donna M. Fair, a professor and alumna of the MCG School of Nursing. Joining the Department of Adult Nursing in 1973, she taught medical surgical nursing and served as Coordinator of the Nursing Skills Laboratory during her tenure at the School of Nursing. Ms. Fair retired in 1995 and died in An endowment has been established through a bequest from Ms. Fair to fund awards to students who demonstrate promise in the fields important to Ms. Fair - Respiratory Care and Rehabilitation. Two students, one undergraduate and one graduate, will receive this award annually. The undergraduate award is based on the applicant's interest in Respiratory Care and/or Rehabilitation. The graduate student award is based on the applicant's involvement in the same fields stated above. Both award applicants' are also judged on demonstrated leadership ability. An award of $1,000 will be given to each of the winners. The criteria are: 1)Must submit a paper discussing the following question: "Would you pursue or are you involved in a nursing career in the specialty areas of Respiratory Care and/or Rehabilitation, if yes, discuss your interest and/or involvement in these specialties, and describe their impact on the field of nursing and patient care?" 2)The paper must follow APA format, be typewritten and double spaced, with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. 3)Must submit one letter of recommendation from a faculty member discussing applicant's leadership abilities. 4)Must have a copy of your most recent MCG transcript, showing a GPA of at least 3.0, mailed to the address listed below.
