1 Scholarship Information IOWA FINANCIAL KNOW HOW CHALLENGE: SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP Iowa Student Loan will award 30 $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors, regardless of financial need, grade point average, class rank or intended college. Applicants must 1) Register with information and ; 2) use the links provided in your confirmation to complete two Iowa Student Loan online tools Student Loan Game Plan and the ROCI Reality Check (Understand the consequences of borrowing money for college and See how your choice of major and career can impact your ability to repay college debt); and 3) Take a related financial literacy assessment test. Registered students with the top 30 scores each receive a scholarship. Go to to register. Students must complete all three steps before 4pm on Friday, March 4 to be considered for the scholarship. THE USD SCHOOL OF EDUCATION BUSH SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 each year for four years to admitted incoming teacher education majors. Applicants must complete the USD Online Scholarship Application and answer the additional Bush Foundation Teacher Scholarship essay questions. Go to for more information. Deadline to apply is December 1, USD AL NEUHARTH SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM $5,000 Applicants must plan to pursue a career in journalism. Deadline to apply is December 1, SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BEEF PRODUCTS, INC SCHOLARSHIP - Applicants must be graduating seniors from a 30 mile radius of Sioux City, IA to include Nebraska and South Dakota; have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and be ranked in the top 75% of your graduating class; must have participated in part time or full time work during his/her high school experience. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is March 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - COL. V. THOMAS CONSIDINE SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $500 is available to high school seniors who 1) are a member of the 185 th Iowa Air National Guard; 2) have enlisted in the 185 th Iowa Air National Guard prior to February 15; 3) are children or other legal dependents of a currently active member of the 185 th Iowa Air National Guard unit headquartered in Sioux City; or 4) are children or other legal dependents of a retired member of the 185 th. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is February 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION CURTIS R. TURNER PLTW SCHOLARSHIP is offered in the amount of $1,000 (not renewable). Applicants must be graduating from East High with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the field of engineering and must have taken at least one PLTW class. Selection will be based on scholastic performance, school and/or community service activities, financial need, and essay evaluation. Applications are available at SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION DR. ROGER F. WENDT SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $500 minimum (not renewable). Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must be pursuing a degree in the field of education. 2 SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ELIZABETH LOUISE JENSEN GIRLS INC. SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $500 (renewable). Applicants must have a minimum of two years active membership with Girls Inc. of Sioux City since age ten and/or have returned to Girls Inc. as a current volunteer. Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher GPA. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is February 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FLIGHT CREW (UNITED 232) SCHOLARSHIP is available to students who are pursuing a career in the medical/health science field at Briar Cliff, Morningside, St. Luke s or Western Iowa Tech. Applications are available at SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GREAT WEST CASUALTY COMPANY SCHOLARSHIPS are available to the sons or daughters of a currently active full-time person employed by any ORI Great West Holdings, Inc. subsidiary corporation for a minimum of one year prior to the date of the application. Selection is based on above-average scholastic performance, class rank, ACT/SAT test scores, and essay evaluation. Applications are available at SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION KIND WORLD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Applicant must be a senior from East, North, West, Heelan, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Dakota Valley, or So. Sioux High Schools with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Selection will be based on scholastic performance, good character, extracurricular school activities, community service, work history, financial need, special circumstances or hardships overcome, and essay evaluation. Awards range from $5,000 to $10,000. Applications are available at Programs/Scholarships/Kind World Foundation. Deadline to apply is February 1. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MACFARLANE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS are available to seniors who will be pursuing a post-secondary education at the Iowa State University. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is February 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - RICH VANDERLOO SPIRIT OF EAST HIGH SCHOLARSHIP - Two $1000 scholarships will be given to East High School students. Scholastic performance, ACT/SAT test scores, school and/or community service activities, work history, and essay evaluation will determine the recipients. Students may attend a college/university or vocational/technical institute. Applications are part of the Walt Fiegel Scholarship. There is not a separate application for the Rich Vanderloo Spirit of East High Scholarship. Deadline to apply is February 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION UNITED AIRLINES TRUST FUND SCHOLARSHIP is available to students from the greater Siouxland tri-state area (general 50-mile radius of Sioux City) that are pursuing an education in such fields as nursing, emergency rescue, medical care, counseling, clergy, or social work at Briar Cliff, Morningside, or Western Iowa Tech. Applications are available in the financial aid departments at Briar Cliff, Morningside, and WIT. Deadline to apply is February 15. SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WALT FIEGEL SCHOLARSHIP is a $1000 scholarship based on scholastic performance, ACT/SAT test scores, school and/or community service activities, work history, and essay evaluation. Students may attend a college/university or vocational/technical institute. The RICH VANDERLOO SPIRIT OF EAST HIGH SCHOLARSHIP application is included with the Walt Fiegel Scholarship. It includes two - $1000 scholarships that will be given to East High students. There is NOT a separate application for the Vanderloo Scholarship. 3 QUOTA INTERNATIONAL OF SIOUX CITY EDUCATION GRANT ($500 - $1000) is awarded to students pursuing post-secondary education who are deaf or hearing impaired. Also students who are going into a field of study that will benefit and assist those who are deaf or hearing impaired. Applicants must plan to attend a post-secondary institution in Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota. Deadline to apply is February 10, Opportunity! UNITED STATES JCI SENATE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. Deadline to apply is January 15, Grades 9 12 DEPARTMENT OF IOWA AMERICAN LEGION HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The purpose of this contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship. First place is $2,000 for the Department Contest and $18,000 for the National Contest. Go to for more information. Deadline for the local contest is December 13, HY VEE SCHOLARSHIP Students are eligible to apply if 1) they are seniors working for Hy Vee who began their employment on or before September 15; 2) sons or daughters of full, regular, and part time Hy Vee and subsidiary associates who have a minimum of six months employment with the company as of September 15; 3) and the applicant must be enrolling in college for the first time. Deadline to apply is February 10, IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY HIXSON OPPORTUNITY AWARD is a half tuition scholarship (estimated value of more than $15,000 over eight semesters) offered annually to 100 Iowa students. Applicants must have faced challenges of personal and/or financial hardship and demonstrate this information in the student essay, recommendation and FAFSA and must be a resident of Iowa. Deadline is February 1, NFIB YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARDS are open to any graduating high school senior entering their freshman year at an accredited (not for profit) two or four year university, college or

4 vocational/technical institute. Applicants MUST be running their own small business in order to be considered for an award. Go to to apply. Deadline is December 18, SUNNYSIDE SHINES SCHOLARSHIP is offering two $1,000 scholarships to seniors at East High School who have been students at Nodland or Sunnyside for at least three full years. Criteria includes 1) need for financial support, 2) exemplary integrity and character and is respected by other students and faculty, 3) exemplified excellent citizenship through service to the school and/or community, 4) one of the following: (a) demonstrated a strong potential for leadership, or (b) exhibited an interest in, and a capacity for, serving his or her community in the future, or (c) overcome a difficult circumstance, challenge, or obstacle. Deadline to apply is March 15, GRAND LODGE OF IOWA MASONIC SCHOLARSHIPS are designed to assist graduating seniors in pursuing a post secondary education which provides a 2 or 4 year college program. Applicants need not have a Masonic connection, nor do race, creed, religion, color, sex, or national origin have any bearing in the selection process. Applicant s academic record, communication skills, and financial need are considered. Recipients are selected after completing a comprehensive written application and an in depth personal interview. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is February 1, GRAND LODGE OF IOWA MCEC TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIPS Applicants must plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College. An applicant s academic record, communication skills, and need for financial assistance are considered, along with an evaluation of the applicant by a school official. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is March 1, THE RICHARD MADSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 Applicants must reside in Woodbury or Ida County and will be pursuing a college study in water quality, conservation, natural resources or production agriculture. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Deadline to apply is April 15, CONSERVATION DISTRICTS OF IOWA (CDI) SCHOLARSHIP Applicants must be pursuing programs of study in any field of conservation or agriculture. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is Friday, February 26, UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN IOWA SCHOLARSHIP deadline is January 15, 2016, for most awards for new students. IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS Automatically awarded to qualifying applicants: President s Award for Competitive Excellence $10,000 ($2500 per year for four years) Academic Recognition Award (ARA) Level 1, $8000 ($2,000 per year for four years); Level 2 $7,000 (1750 per year for four years) Cardinal Leadership Scholar Award (CLSA) Level 1, $10,000 ($2500 per year for four years), Level II $4,000 ($1,000 per year for four years) IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY MULTICULTURAL VISION PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP Multicultural seniors who demonstrate academic potential in ways that go beyond class ranking or test scores are eligible to apply. MVP awards one hundred students each year with full tuition scholarships that is renewable for a total of four years or eight semesters, provided the student maintains a cumulative 2.0 grade point average, completes and submits the FAFSA each year, and completes 24 new credit hours each academic year at the university. 5 RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (RMHCC) offers scholarships to seniors of all backgrounds who plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university. The program is comprised of four individual scholarship programs including 1)RMHC /Scholars: All students are eligible to apply regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin. 2) RMHC /Asia: Applicant must have at least one parent of Asian Pacific heritage, 3) RMHC /African American Future Achievers: Applicant must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage, or 4) RMHC /HACER : Applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic/Latino heritage. Go to for more information or apply at NATIVE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIPS CATCHING THE DREAM is a national Native American education and scholarship center. Their strategy is to: 1) Actively seek out Native American high school students with academic potential and help prepare them for college; 2) Encourage and assist Native American high schools to establish college preparatory programs, 3) Establish information sharing networks and national training sessions for teachers and administrators to strengthen their college preparatory programs; 4) Orient parents, grandparents, and tribal leaders so they can provide effective support for their college bound students. Over 85% of Catching the Dream s scholarship recipients have earned college degrees and 85% have returned to work in tribal communities. Go to for more information and the application. STRAYER RAIRDEN SCHOLARSHIP IN PHYSICS UNIVERSITY OF IOWA The Department of Physics and Astronomy awards one $1,000 grant each year, renewable for up to three successive years following the initial award, to an entering freshman from the state of Iowa. Applicants must have declared physics or astronomy as their major. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit, not financial need. The deadline is January 31, THE PEARL HULL FALK SCHOLARSHIP is in the amount of $800. Applicants must be of Protestant faith, a resident of the State of Iowa, and enrolled at the University of Iowa full time. Deadline to apply is May 2, IOWA NEWSPAPER FOUNDATION offers several scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000. Applicants preparing for a career in the newspaper industry are encouraged to apply. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is February 12, TIP TOP TUX SCHOLARSHIP Applicants are chosen based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, financial need and volunteer service in their community. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is March 1. NEW OPPORTUNITY!!! SIOUX CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Eight seniors from East High will be awarded scholarships in the amount of $500 each. Selection will be based on high school academic performance, school and community activities; personal statement and recommendations. Applicants must enroll as a full time student at a college/university, community college, or certification program. Deadline to apply is March 1. CENTRAL IOWA MENSA EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. For the general awards, applicants need not be members of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa. The general awards are unrestricted as to age, race, gender, level of post secondary education, or financial need. Go to beginning September 15 for more information. 6 HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a minimum 2.0 GPA, involvement in co curricular and community activities, and a commitment to pursue a bachelor s degree (may start studies at a 2 year institution and then transfer). Scholarships are valued at $6,000 $10,500. Applications are available at Deadline to apply is October 25. DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN OF IOWA SCHOLARSHIP (formerly Iowa Junior Miss Scholarship) This scholarship program is restricted to high school senior girls. Applicants must be involved in school and/or community activities and be outstanding in academics, leadership, athletics, and/or the arts. During a 3 day program in Coralville March 2 4, 2016, girls will 1) develop self confidence and ability to interview effectively and speak in public, perform on stage, and build interpersonal relationships, 2) showcase accomplishments in academics, physical fitness, on stage performance skills, and the ability to think and communicate clearly, and 3) participate in activities that benefit the lives of others through the Be our Best Self program. For more information go to Deadline to register is December 1, UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM, sponsored by the HEARST FOUNDATION Juniors or seniors interested in being nominated must be members of student council. Two high school juniors or seniors from each state are selected to participate at the USSYP Leadership Week in Washington DC and a $5000 Scholarship. Students will take a general exam over government and the Constitution on October 14, from 9:00 11:00 at NWAEA. March 5 12, delegates go to Washington, DC for the annual event. See your counselor if you d like to be nominated.
