1 SCHOLARSHIPS General Scholarship Information Polk County Farm Bureau Ag Enhancement Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2014 Each year Polk county Farm Bureau awards ten $2000 ($500 for four years) scholarships for students interested in agricultural related studies. Eligibility requirements for this scholarship include: Must be a resident of Polk County Graduating senior of an accredited Polk County High School Must enroll in post-secondary school following their senior high graduation Must be going into an agricultural business related field Student is required to be a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester) To be eligible for renewal, one must carry a 2.5 grade point Completed applications must be returned by March 1, Application is available on the Polk County Farm Bureau website at Iowa s 2014 Matthew Shepard Scholarship Program Deadline: March 1, 2014 Iowa s Gold Matthew Shepard Scholarship is an award of up to $40,000 over four years. The scholarship pays tuition, books, and fees at one of Iowa s three state universities: ISU, U of I, or UNI. Iowa s Silver Matthew Shepard Scholarship is an award of up to $9,000 over 4 years. The initial scholarship of $500 per semester may be used for tuition, books or fees at any college or university in the US. All scholarships are renewable each semester for up to four years upon successfully maintaining a 3.0 GPA, continued service to the LGBTQ Community and an interview with the Scholarship Committee. The scholarships are awarded based on academic aptitude, academic achievement, community service and financial need. The scholarships honor Iowa students with the courage to be open in their schools and communities, and are named in memory of Matthew Shepard. Monthly meetings provide members & guests an opportunity for education on community affairs from local, state and national opinion leaders and provide them with positive images of the gay community. As a part of its educational program, FFBC awards $2500 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership in efforts to increase education and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues and reduce homophobia in their schools and/or communities. An applicant must be a resident of Iowa and plan to pursue post-secondary education. Scholarships are awarded without regard to gender, race, religion, creed, marital or employment status or gender/sexual orientation of the prospective recipient or his/her relatives. Additionally, there is no restriction on the type or location of the educational institution where post-secondary education is pursued. Applications and transcripts must be postmarked no later than March 15, The FFBC Scholarship Award Committee will notify recipients by May 1, 2014.
3 Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa Deadline: March 31, 2014 The Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa (LDA-IA) will award three scholarships to high school seniors who plan to enroll in post-secondary education (college, vocational, or fifth-year program) in the fall of The scholarships are to assist students with learning disabilities in pursuing a post-secondary education at an accredited institution which provides: A two- or four-year college program, or Vocational training Three scholarships valued at $1,000 each will be awarded: One Membership-based scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who meets one of the following requirements: 1) Applicant is a current member of LDA 2) Applicant s parent is a current member of LDA 3) Applicant is recommended in writing by a current member of LDA Two At-Large scholarships will be awarded. Preference will be given to applicants who meet any of the membership requirements listed above. Scholarship recipients will be selected from applications that have been postmarked no later than March 31, Prairie Meadows Scholarship Deadline: April 4, 2014 The Prairie Meadows Scholarship is awarded during the recipient s freshman year of higher education. The recipient must attend school in the fall and spring semesters immediately following high school graduation. The Prairie Meadows Scholarship is a $2,500 award paid in two installments of $1250 during the fall semester and spring semester. The recipient must successfully complete the fall semester before the spring semester award will be given. 5 College Scholarship Information AIB College of Business AIB Scholarship: Student must have a 2.5 to 2.99 cumulative high school GPA or cumulative GPA based on an associate degree (or highest degree obtained) Eagles Scholarship: Student must have a 3.0 to 3.49 cumulative high school GPA or cumulative GPA based on an associate degree (or highest degree obtained) Honors Scholarship: Student must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative high school GPA or cumulative GPA based on an associate degree (or highest degree obtained) Founder s Scholarship: Named after Everett O. Fenton, founder of AIB College of Business in AIB offers up to 20 Founder s Scholarships per year. They are awarded to select first-year students who meet specified requirements and who attend AIB in the fall term immediately following their high school graduation. Student must have a 3.75 or higher cumulative high school GPA; written essay required Scholarships are generally for tuition only and are awarded in conjunction with federal and state assistance. Scholarships are renewable upon maintaining the required minimum cumulative GPA and proper social standing. 7 Iowa State University Special Awards for Iowa Residents Iowa State University offers automatic scholarship awards to Iowa resident freshman applicants who rank in the top 15 percent of their graduating class or who present a superior overall academic record that includes a challenging college preparatory curriculum. Please note that you may not receive both the Academic Recognition Award and the President s Award for Competitive Excellence. If you meet the requirements for both awards, you will automatically be awarded the President s Award for Competitive Excellence. These awards are provided to all qualified students who are offered admission by March 1. Awards may be made after this date, contingent upon the availability of funds. President s Award for Competitive Excellence The President s Award for Competitive Excellence is automatically awarded to all Iowa residents who are offered admission to Iowa State as freshmen entering directly from high school and who have successfully completed the college preparatory curriculum outlined below, including cumulative grade point average and test score Amount: $8,000 ($2,000 per year for 4 years) Requirements: Math Through 1 year of calculus (pre-calculus does not satisfy this requirement) Science 3 years from among biology, chemistry, and physics Foreign Language 4 years of a single foreign language (through level 4 in high school, ex: Spanish 4) High School GPA 3.30 (4-point scale) or higher Test Score ACT of at least 28 or SAT of at least 1240 (Critical Reading plus Math) Academic Recognition Award (ARA) The Academic Recognition Award is automatically awarded to all Iowa residents who have been offered admission to Iowa State as freshmen entering directly from high school and who rank in the top 15 percent of their graduation class ARA Level I: $6,000 ($1500 per year for 4 years) Requirement: Rank in the top 10 percent of graduating class or rank position 1 or 2. ARA Level II: $5,000 ($1250 per year for 4 years) Requirement: Rank between the top 11 th through 15 th percentile of class.
8 Cardinal Scholar Award Amount: $1,000 (one time award) The Cardinal Scholar Award is automatically awarded to Iowa residents who meet all the following requirements: Offered admission to Iowa State for fall semester 2013 as a freshman entering directly from high school Achieved a minimum 3.70 final high school cumulative GPA (on a 4-point scale) Achieved a minimum 29 ACT composite score (or minimum 1290 SAT Critical Reading/Math combined score) This one-time,non-renewable award may be combined with the Academic Recognition Award or the President s ACE. 9 H.S. Ostlin Memorial Scholarship Deadline: March 1, 2014 One H.S. Ostlin Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an entering freshman at Iowa State University who is a resident of one of the following Iowa counties: Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Marshall, Polk, Story, or Warren Selection is based on academic excellence, and preference is given to students intending to pursue a career in engineering. The amount of the award is $1000 and is renewable for three additional years provided the student fulfills the scholarship requirements. You may request application information for the scholarship and financial aid forms by contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid at Iowa State University by phone or download the application information at: Kirkwood Community College Kirkwood The Presidential Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2014 High School Seniors who have ACT test scores of 25 or higher and 3.5 GPAs or higher are eligible for Presidential Scholarships. Up to 30 scholarships for $5,000 each are available to students who meet this criteria and who will be full-time Kirkwood students in the fall and spring following high school graduation. This scholarship is awarded during students freshmen year. $2,500 awarded for fall and $2,500 awarded for spring. Kirkwood The Leaders for Tomorrow Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2014 The Leaders for Tomorrow Scholarship is for high school seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher (at the time of this application deadline) who are in the top half of their class. Up to 60 scholarships for $2,500 are awarded to seniors who will be full-time Kirkwood students in the fall following high school graduation and can demonstrate strong leadership qualities. This scholarship is awarded during students freshman year. At least one community and two high school leadership experiences are required during the junior and/or senior years of high school. $1,250 awarded for fall and $1,250 awarded for spring.
