N o r t h S e at t l e C o m m u n i t y C o l l e g e Through North Seattle Community College s new Information Technology (IT) for Healthcare program, you can expand your professional healthcare qualifications or make a career shift that promises new opportunities in the technology field. With choices of a short and long certificate and a two-year degree, IT for Healthcare meets the needs of those already working in healthcare or IT, as well as those new to both fields. As a graduate, you ll find your skills are in demand in the growing healthcare arena. You ll train in the on-campus, high-tech digital healthcare lab, the only one of its kind in the Northwest. The lab has access to the entire Procura software program real-world software used by local home healthcare and hospice agencies. Our students learn Procura, not just from a user perspective, but from an IT perspective set-up, upgrades, installation and troubleshooting, including basic principles that translate to other software systems. The certificate also meets the needs of those in IT who want to familiarize themselves with healthcare information technology, as well as those new to both fields. The curriculum includes an introduction to commonly used computer systems, networks and software applications, HIPAA and Network security, and Outlook, Word and Excel. One-year Certificate This second certificate builds on the IT curriculum of the short certificate by adding medical fundamentals, program management, statistics and general informatics topics. You ll be ready for entrylevel jobs in healthcare that require IT skills surgery scheduler, unit coordinator, medical records technician or patient coordinator. Two-year Associate of Applied Science Transfer Degree The degree program prepares you for entrylevel IT jobs within hospitals, home health or ambulatory care facilities help/service desk analyst, clinical support staff, technical support or data center analyst. The short certificate is intended for currently employed health care professionals who wish to add IT skills to their professional qualifications. It is also designed for those who are beginning their health care career and need basic IT skills. COURSE NUMBER DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS (CREDITS) Lecture Lab Credit IT 100 IT 101 or BUS 169 AHE 155 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS or USING COMPUTERS IN BUSINESS SPECIAL TOPICS IN NETWORK SECURITY AND HIPAA TOTAL CREDITS FOR CERTIFICATE 15 A minimum of 15 credits with a 2.0 or higher in each course is required to earn the certificate.
