2 Fall 2015 Admissions Packet Thank you for your interest in the Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) Renewable Energy Technology Program. About the Program Columbia Gorge Community College s Renewable Energy Technology (RET) program is a career ladder program offering a nine month (completed in 3 terms) Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science degree. In January 2011, Columbia Gorge Community College became one of the first three colleges in the United States to receive the American Wind Energy Association's (AWEA) Seal of Approval for wind technician training programs. While many RET graduates continue to work in the wind industry, others choose to work in solar, hydropower, avionics manufacturing, food and beverage manufacturing, and engineering fields. A solid foundation in automated electronic technologies prepares students to work as technicians in all of these industries. Renewable energy and manufacturing technicians perform a variety of job duties: (1) operate and maintain equipment, (2) perform mechanical and electrical component repair to correct malfunctions following manufacturing requirements, (3) comply with project environmental health and safety programs, and (4) perform preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM maintenance manuals. Engineering technicians use electrical and electronic theory to design, build, repair, calibrate, and modify components, circuitry controls, and machinery. The 9-month certificate provides a basic level of knowledge in electronic circuits, hydraulics, mechanical power, and industrial safety, as well as skills in computer applications, math, and writing. The A.A.S. adds additional training in digital systems, programmable controllers, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems. Graduates of the A.A.S. degree can apply for admissions into engineering and renewable energy B.S. degree programs. The RET program provides an articulated transfer opportunity to the B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology program at Oregon Institute of Technology. Students should evaluate these programs to ensure industry relevance, affordability, and transferability. While some employers will hire graduates with the certificate of completion, other employers require an A.A.S. degree or additional mechanical experience for entry-level positions. For more information about the program and industry expectations, visit our website: Admissions Requirements Admission to this program is limited to 36 students with 10 students on an alternate list. Applicants to the RET program must meet the following requirements: Completion of all program prerequisites with a grade of C or better.
