3 04 Aylesbury College COURSE directories The College offers a variety of part-time courses to meet your Professional Development, Higher Education or personal requirements. We also offer flexible modes of study including Online, Blended or in a Traditional Classroom Setting. Higher Education Aylesbury College offers a range of foundation degrees and other higher level qualifications. The College works in partnership with a number of institutions to ensure your training is the best available in the area. The University Centre Aylesbury Vale (UCAV) brings together a variety of courses and qualifications from partner universities, colleges and training providers. UCAV s provision has been shaped to the needs of local students and employers. Our programmes reflect employer and employee demand for qualifications. At the same time, UCAV is designed to help the region grow by providing Higher Education skills that will make a difference to Aylesbury Vale businesses, the community and the local economy. Professional Development We have built up our Professional Development offering in coordination with our business partners to ensure we are providing the types of courses and qualifications that meet their demand. We offer courses that are endorsed by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), Microsoft IT Academy, the International Association of Book-Keepers (IAB), the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) as well as a variety of mandatory, industry-specific courses. As varied as the course offerings are, so too are the modes of study. Many of our employer-mandated courses are taught totally Online and take only a few hours and can be taken at the student s convenience. This is referred to as Raising the Participation Age (RPA). What is RPA? Young people are now required to stay in learning longer. If you are in Year 11 in September 2012, you will have to continue in education or training until at least the end of the school year in which you turn 17. If you are currently in Year 10 or below, you will have to continue until at least your 18th birthday. Raising the Participation Age (RPA) does not mean you must stay in school. You will able to choose one of the following options post-16: Full-time education, such as school, College or home education An Apprenticeship Part-time education or training if you are employed, self-employed or volunteering full-time (which is defined as 20 hours or more a week) At 16+ you have a choice there s a course for everyone at Aylesbury College

Annette An Employer Apprentices have the training opportunities and we have the work opportunities. We give people skills and training over a 12-month period and there is always the chance that if vacancies arise, they could be in line to apply for those roles at the end of the apprenticeship. They are all doing really well here and it is fantastic for us to be able to benefit these young people by developing and challenging them in the workplace.

14 26 Aylesbury College Fees and assistance Information on the cost of courses as well as funding and assistance are available. Cost If you are a British or European Union resident, under 19, there will be no tuition, registration or exam fees to pay if your course is funded by the government. For non-government funded courses, usually those lasting less than two weeks, or if you are 19 or over there may be a fee, but the exact amount depends on the course chosen. Please contact our Admissions Advisors who will be able to give you a better idea about the fee for a specific course as well as allowances and fee waivers that may be applicable at that time. Loans for Further Education From 2013, higher level college courses (Level 3 and above) for those aged 24 or over will no longer be subsidised by the government; however, the government is offering loans which you would repay at a later time when your income is high enough. To cover the costs of studying you can apply for: A Tuition Fee Loan to cover your tuition fees in full A Maintenance Loan for living costs like rent (full-time students only) A Maintenance Grant if your household income is less than 42,600 (full-time students only) Extra financial help if you have a disability or children or adults depending on you Full-time students have to pay back any loans plus interest once they leave their course and start earning more than 21,000 a year. Part-time students who earn over 21,000 a year have to start paying back their loans after four years even if their course hasn t finished. Students don t have to pay back grants, scholarships or bursaries. Students can apply Online now for 2012/13 student finance at Professional and Career Development Loans (PCDL) Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between 300 and 10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year s relevant unpaid practical work). The Skills Funding Agency will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries. The Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, and as such should only be considered as an option once all other student funding options have been investigated. Aylesbury College Day Nursery and Pre-School Did you know that the College runs high-quality childcare in our new purpose-built nursery? There is also an additional pre-school facility. Both facilities provide care for those who are entitled to government funding. The Day Nursery caters for babies and children from 3 months to 5 years. After school care is also available for the 5 to 8 year old group. Learning Centre At the core of the College and spanning two floors is our Learning Centre. Here you will find a quiet place to study on your own and it is also where group study sessions are held. The Learning Centre offers up-to-date resources to help you get the most out of your studies. You will find a wide variety of books, Online resources, newspapers and magazines, as well as a careers library. During term, the Centre s operating hours are 9.00am to 7.30pm Monday to Thursday, 9.00am to 5.00pm on Fridays, and 10.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. Stay Connected The College has over 400 networked computers with full internet access available for use in classrooms, workshops and the Learning Centre. Or feel free to bring your own computer the College has free WiFi throughout the building. Gym The College houses its very own sports suite with a fully equipped gym, dance studio and sports hall. Membership rates are very reasonable for students. Our gym offers top of the range Pulse Fitness equipment including resistance and cardio machines, and we have a number of qualified personal trainers to coach beginners through to sports enthusiasts. Both afternoon and evening classes are available in the dance studio and sports hall.
