2 Installation, activation and configuration of Webdav or SFTP 1. Introduction In this manual we explain how to install and configure a network connection with the TU Delft file-server. The manual consists of three parts: Installing Webdrive on Windows Configuring Webdav Configuring SFTP (SHH) To set-up a connection we use the program Webdrive that is available on Blackboard ( First you must install the program Webdrive After installing you can choose two different methods for connecting to the server: Webdav and SFTP(SSH) What are Webdav and SFTP? SFTP and WebDAV are two different ways that applications can communicate with your online storage. Using either of these services (or protocols ), applications can see what files are in your account, and upload and download files. Many applications and operating systems support at least one of these standards, which means that you can access your files from within a whole range of software and in new and innovative ways. Good for small file sizes, like Word, Excel documents etcetera When to use SFTP For regular use of copying files from and to the server. Good for large files sizes. II

3 2. Installing WebDrive on Windows 2.1. Download Webdrive program You can download WebDrive from: When downloading, make sure you download the correct version for your Windows operating system. 32 bit Windows 64 bit Windows 2.2. Installation 1. Open the location where you have downloaded the file. Double-click the Webdrive installation file. This will start the installation setup. 2. Click Next. 3. Accept the License Agreement terms and click Next. 4. Click Next. 5. Click Install. 1

4 6. Click Finish to complete the installation. The software is now installed on your computer. 7. A pop-up window appears with a message that you have to restart the computer. Click Yes. The computer restarts. When Windows starts, automatically Webdrive will start. If it doesn t start, start WebDrive manually. 8. Click on Help / Info. In this window you can activate the license. 9. Select License Information, click Activate License. 10. Click Activate License. 11. In this window you can enter the license key. The license key is located on blackboard. Click Finish. The license is now activated, click OK. 2

5 3. Configuring WebDav 01. In this window, click New. Now you add a new server connection. 02. In this window, Select Secure WebDAV. Click Next. 03. In this window you can type the URL / Address. In this example we use: In this window the connection is tested. When Sucessfully connected, click Close (you can use an other webdata URL as well) In the field Username type your netid. (without extra s) In the field Password type your(netid)password. Check Save Password and Click Next. 3

6 05. In this window enter a Site Name and choose a Drive letter. In this example we use Staff-Groups as site name and the letter W as drive letter. 06. In the Server List a server connection is added. You can add another one or exit the program, You can check the Connect at login/startup. this is optional. Click Finish. 4

7 4. Configuring SFTP (SSH) 01. In this window, click New. Now you add a new server connection. 02. In this window, Select SFTP (SSH). Click Next. 03. Click Advanced Settings. 04. In this window you can type the Site Name, URL / Address and Account information. In the field Username type your netid. (without extra s) In the field Password type your(netid)password. Check the Connect at login/startup (user prefrence) Click SFTP Settings on the left menu bar. 5

8 05. In the Root Directory field type the Root directory of you deparment. In this example we use: staff-bulk\bk Set the SFTP version to Version 3 Click OK. 06. When done you are able to connect and acces the Network Location 6
