Sample Press Release (Available for immediate release) Yaeger, Jungbauer & Barczak is proud to announce that 6 of its attorneys have been named to the 2010 edition of Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. First published in 1983, Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive annual peer-review survey. For the new U.S. edition, more than 24,126 leading attorneys cast more than 2.8 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in the same and related specialties. Because of the rigorous and transparent methodology used by Best Lawyers, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice. Steven Naifeh, Managing Editor of Best Lawyers, says, We continue to believe as we have believed for 26 years that recognition by one s peers is the most meaningful form of recognition in the legal profession.
9 Selection and Peer Review Process Inclusion in Best Law yers is based on peer review, as it has been for the past 26 years, and the voting pool for existing categories consists of all law yers who are currently listed. These listed lawyers are asked to vote on both current listees and new nominees in their specialties and metropolitan areas and/or states, as well as to nominate additional lawyers. Voting takes place either by phone or by electronic ballot. Each listed lawyer is asked If you could not handle a case, who would you refer it to? Law yers are asked to give letter grades (1-5) to the nominees: 5 for someone the voter would definitely refer a case to, 4 for someone the voter would probably refer a case to, 3 for someone the lawyer would be hesitant to refer a case to, etc. Voters are allowed to provide comments as well as grades and are asked to vote only on lawyers whose work they know personally. Votes that are clearly aberrational or politically motivated are ignored. Once selections have been finalized, they are checked against state bar sanction lists to make sure that each law yer is in good standing with his or her state bar. Once this process is completed, announcements are sent to firms marketing departments and letters of inclusion are then sent to the individual attorneys. Please click here for more information about our selection process. Nomination Process: Every lawyer in the previous edition is nominated for inclusion in the next edition. Nominees from the previous year who were not selected for inclusion are automatically re-nominated for the next two editions. When voting, listed law yers are asked to nominate other exceptional lawyers who have not been previously nominated. Marketing officers are allowed to nominate lawyers from their own firm although we urge them to exercise prudence since nominating too many and/or under-qualified lawyers can undermine the chances of the firm s best candidates. Nomination Tips Please make sure all nominations for the 2011 edition are sent to us by December 31, We do accept nominations year round, but by sending them to us by the end of the year, this will ensure that their information is on the ballots for the full voting process. If you would like to suggest an additional category, please send the names of the attorneys you would nominate for inclusion in it. Most, but not all, nominees have been practicing ten or more years and are partners in their firms. Please keep the number of nominees within reason. Nominating an excessive number of lawyers or lawyers who are not qualified may damage the chances of strong candidates from the same firm.
