5 4 CHECK THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 5 ENGLISH TEST YOUR ABILITY 6 APPLY! Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses generally require completion of a prerequisite such as a Certificate 4. Higher Education courses require a Year 12 equivalent. To apply for an Australian student visa you must meet the academic, English language and other requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). You can choose to begin with an English language course and progress through Certificate and Diploma courses to a Bachelor degree. Degree pathways are available in specific course areas. 10 ENGLISH COURSES Excellent English language skills are required to complete your chosen course. For most courses the English language requirement is Academic IELTS 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL (ibt) 46 or STEP Eiken Grade Pre 1 or a Certificate in Advanced English for Further Study or equivalent. Some courses have higher requirements. If you do not meet the requirements of the course, you can study English as a stand-alone course or as a package with your course. ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES A English course will ensure you are well prepared for your studies. HOW TO APPLY If you want to package an English language course with a degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma or Certificate course, complete Section 4A of the application form or apply online. 11 LENGTH OF ENGLISH COURSE The length of your English course will depend on your English proficiency at the time of entry, your progress during the course and the entry requirements for the course that you wish to study afterwards. The table below indicates estimated course length. Note that these are estimates only and will vary for individual students. 12 STREAMLINED VISA PROCESSING (SVP) has been approved for Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP) by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). Under SVP arrangements, eligible student visa applicants are assessed as a lower immigration risk, regardless of their country of origin. This can reduce the number of documents you are required to submit and shorten the processing time of your student visa application. WHICH COURSES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SVP? All Bachelor degree courses are eligible for SVP. To be eligible for SVP, student visa applications must be lodged with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ecoe) from for a Bachelor degree. SVP also applies to eligible Diploma-to- Degree (D2D) pathways. Eligible pathways include one or more vocational courses and proceed to a Bachelor degree course offered by or one of our six partner universities. While processes might be slightly different there is no difference between SVP offered by or one of our partner universities. HOW DO I APPLY? Students must complete the application form and complete a SVP form. Applicants will be assessed on course entry requirements such as academic requirements, English language, essay or portfolio requirements. Students must also meet SVP requirements in order to be accepted into the course.
