5 4 CHECK THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 5 ENGLISH TEST YOUR ABILITY 6 APPLY! Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses generally require completion of a prerequisite such as a Certificate 4. Higher Education courses require a Year 12 equivalent. To apply for an Australian student visa you must meet the academic, English language and other requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). You can choose to begin with an English language course and progress through Certificate and Diploma courses to a Bachelor degree. Degree pathways are available in specific course areas. 10 ENGLISH COURSES Excellent English language skills are required to complete your chosen course. For most courses the English language requirement is Academic IELTS 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL (ibt) 46 or STEP Eiken Grade Pre 1 or a Certificate in Advanced English for Further Study or equivalent. Some courses have higher requirements. If you do not meet the requirements of the course, you can study English as a stand-alone course or as a package with your course. ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES A English course will ensure you are well prepared for your studies. 11 LENGTH OF ENGLISH COURSE The length of your English course will depend on your English proficiency at the time of entry, your progress during the course and the entry requirements for the course that you wish to study afterwards. 12 STREAMLINED VISA PROCESSING (SVP) has been approved for Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP) by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). Under SVP arrangements, eligible student visa applicants are assessed as a lower immigration risk, regardless of their country of origin. This can reduce the number of documents you are required to submit and shorten the processing time of your student visa application. WHICH COURSES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SVP? All Bachelor degree courses are eligible for SVP. To be eligible for SVP, student visa applications must be lodged with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ecoe) from for a Bachelor degree. SVP also applies to eligible Diploma-to- Degree (D2D) pathways. Eligible pathways include one or more vocational courses and proceed to a Bachelor degree course offered by or one of our six partner universities. While processes might be slightly different there is no difference between SVP offered by or one of our partner universities. HOW DO I APPLY? Students must complete the application form and complete a SVP form. Applicants will be assessed on course entry requirements such as academic requirements, English language, essay or portfolio requirements. Students must also meet SVP requirements in order to be accepted into the course. 67 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION FORM FOR VOCATIONAL AND HIGHER EDUCATION COURSES TERMS AND CONDITIONS defines a study period as the following: > English language courses: up to 24 weeks, the study period will be the duration of the course. Fee increases for students who have commenced and re-enrol in the same course or a new course within a package of courses will be limited to a maximum of 10 percent of the original fee. 2 VARIATION OF TUITION FEES (i) Vocational courses If you are required to repeat subjects to complete your course of study or granted a variation to your study load due to recognition of prior learning, a pro-rata fee will apply if the number of hours of study is less than 50 percent of a standard semester load. However, if the number of hours of study is equal to or more than 50 percent of a standard semester load, a full semester fee will apply. Deferrals > In a package offer if you do not reach the level of English specified in the letter of offer for the vocational/higher Education course, you may defer commencement of your Higher Education and/or vocational course until the next available intake for that course. However, if you withdraw from that course, will refund tuition fees paid for the vocational course minus a $300 processing fee. Only when the balance of the first semesters Higher Education tuition fees have been paid would the refund policy apply minus a $300 processing fee. > If you obtain a deferral of the Higher Education and/or vocational component of your combined packaged course and fail to enroll on the deferred start date the following will apply: If you requested a deferral 4 weeks (28 days) or more before the original course start date then 90 percent of the tuition fees paid will be refunded. If you have not requested a deferral within 2 months of the start date of your course, tuition fees paid will be forfeited. If there is an increase in course fees for the deferred start date you will be liable to pay the new semester tuition fees in order for the new ecoe to be issued. VI. Suspensions > If you obtain a suspension to your enrolment after the commencement of the semester, a pro-rata transfer of the remainder of the current semester s tuition fee may be granted. The fee transferred, if any, will be held towards tuition for the semester that you are returning to as an international student. You will be required to pay any balance prior to resuming the studies. If you decide not to recommence studies, or you recommence the course as a temporary or permanent resident, no refund of the fees transferred will be made. 4 TRANSFERS I. Transfer to a Higher Education Course > will transfer the tuition fees from your vocational course to a Higher Education course if you withdraw from the vocational course and enrol in the Higher Education course within 14 days after the semester commencement. Transfer between Higher Education Colleges for Higher Education or Institutes for Vocational Courses > Once an ecoe has been issued to you, you must remain enrolled in the Higher Education or vocational course for at least one semester at the Institute stated in your offer of enrolment. An application for a change of college before completion of one semester will be approved only in exceptional circumstances. 5 ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSE FEES AND REFUNDS I.
