It turned out that I have got way more than I expected. Striking campus views, remarkable facilities, excellent academic achievements, fabulous teaching and researching staff, all of them are like huge magnets for those who enjoy learning. I could manage what, when and where I study at my discretion. I could take almost any subjects I like here. I was able to condense or lengthen the program time as I saw fit. For the first time of my life I read a mathematical textbook like reading a novel or a philosophy literature. UQ is like a train station. It cannot assure you an exotic or fascinating destination. But it provides you a platform and tools to explore the possibility of yourself, leading you to the life that is more likely to suit you. At the end of the days, what matters is how you think rather than what and where you study. 20 HOW TO APPLY Complete the International Student Application Form Attach all required documentation 3-semester transcript certified by Ms. Cherry Yu in International Program Office of Lingnan College IELTS copy Application fee of AUD$100 will be waived with SYSU being the partner university. Submit applications to the International Admission Section through Shirley by 31 March for July Semester 2 intake and by 31 October for Feb Semester 1 intake

21 ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATION UQ s International Admissions will assess the applications on a case by case basis. International Admissions will either make an offer conditional / unconditional or reject the application. Information about how to accept will be sent with the students letter of offer.

23 ICTE-UQ also offers English language support programs for students who already meet the UQ English language program requirements at no additional cost as follows: Academic Communication Skills (ACS) - Three-week intensive English language program run before Orientation each semester - Provides specialist language and academic skills for successful study at UQ This program aims to: - assist new international students to understand Australian society and culture - make participants aware of the expectations of the Australian academic community - revise the English language skills students need to successfully adapt to the Australian way of life English for Academic Communication (EAC) - Eight week part-time course offered to all UQ students from non-english speaking backgrounds Divided into four streams of study: - Writing for Academic Communication - Speaking for Academic Communication; Pronunciation and Vocabulary workshop - Listening and note-taking skills; Understanding Australian English - Reading strategies and Grammar workshop Students choose from one stream for the first four weeks of the course and then either continue with the same stream or choose a different stream for the second half of the course
