3 CHILDREN S SERVICES LONDON BOROUGH OF HAMMERSMITH & FULHAM Post: Service: Senior Educational Psychologist Complex Needs Division Psychology in Education Service Job Purpose All Educational Psychologists To assist in the efficient and effective delivery of a wide range of psychological services to pupils, students and their families and to institutions. To assist in making the contribution of the Psychology in Education Service accessible to all aspects of Children s Services and to work collaboratively across the local authority. To be committed to the Council s Equal Opportunities policies; to be responsible for promoting the policy through the Psychology in Education Service and to understand the role of the Psychology in Education Service in challenging discrimination and fostering achievement. Main duties and responsibilities 1. To provide an assessment, consultation and intervention service regarding the educational needs of children and young people in the 0-19 range within the context of the LA s procedures. This will involve working closely with pupils, parents, teachers and other agencies. 2. To consult with headteachers and school staff on whole-school issues relevant to the provision of pupils with special educational needs. 3. To provide psychological advice with regard to the assessment of pupils under Section 323 of the 1996 Education Act. 4. To develop the Service s preventative role, including contribution to in-service initiatives and undertaking research and development projects in identified areas of need. 5. To offer a specialist co-ordinating responsibility in relation to identified LEA needs.
4 6. To advise the Local Authority, as appropriate, to ensure constructive delivery of services to children and young people with special educational needs. 7. To represent the Service at meetings and LEA working groups and contribute to joint initiatives with colleagues and other agencies as required. 8. To contribute to service development activities in order to achieve a responsible and effective service, working within an equal opportunities framework. 9. To undertake specific service and liaison responsibilities as advised by the Principal Educational Psychologist. 10. To promote the Council s policies on equal opportunities and on challenging discrimination and disadvantage. Specific duties of Senior Educational Psychologist. To participate as a member of the management team of the Psychology in Education Service. To assist the Principal Educational Psychologist in the day to day management of Educational Psychologists. To undertake duties as delegated by the Principal Educational Psychologist. To undertake and lead on specialist co-ordinating functions within the Service and the Education Department, as requested by and negotiated with the Principal Educational Psychologist.
