1 OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Department: Responsible to: Occupational Therapist Multi Disciplinary Team Therapy Manager The Occupational Therapist appointed will be a registered member of the Health Professions Council (HPC) and the British Associate of Occupational Therapists (BAOT) Main Purpose of Job To provide Occupational Therapy for students attending Prior s Court School through individual, group and/or teacher directed therapy sessions Provide assessment for current and prospective pupils as needed Provide advice and training to professional staff and others as required To provide written documentation as needed at a professional standard Job Summary This specialist post provides for students with autism spectrum disorders, severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviours. Prior s Court School is an independent residential special school which was opened in September The Occupational Therapy Team is part of a Multi Disciplinary Therapy Team at the school. Duties include the delivery of therapy intervention in the educational and residential settings ensuring that the Occupational Therapy programmes are integral to the student s educational and developmental programme. Main Duties and Responsibilities Provision of therapy: Provision of appropriate individual, and group therapy sessions for students that meet the requirements of each pupil Direct, and jointly plan teacher run therapy sessions.
2 Input into planning of sessions for generalisation of pupil skills in the residential and/or community settings Undertake agreed quality measures and carry out procedures in line with statutory/regulatory bodies (OfSTED and National Minimum Standards) Assessment: Assess and plan provision for current and potential students for occupational therapy related areas, as agreed. Complete summaries of assessment to a professional standard. Training: Participation and development of training and induction programmes as required. Proactively offer and provide occupational therapy support to others as requested wherever possible. This would include parents, staff, external individuals/groups and student placements. To share unique expertise with staff by contributing to the development of school policies and programmes as agreed Preparation of resources suited to meet individual student s needs. Work with colleagues to ensure resources are used consistently in all areas of the student s environment. Written Documentation: Set goals for students. Design programmes and measure progress towards achieving these goals. Keep and maintain records of individual student s therapy Write and circulate reports to meet set deadlines. This would include annual reviews, LAC reviews or others as agreed. Professional Development: Attendance at local and national OT training and peer support meetings as appropriate for continued professional development. To maintain registration with the Health Professions Council as a practicing Occupational Therapist and provide copies of any appropriate documentation for PCS files. Arrange and actively engage in clinical supervision sessions for which will be paid for by PCS. The documentation of these sessions needs to include goals for future development. Attendance at PCS training sessions or other Continuing Professional Development programmes as agreed. Other duties: Attendance at departmental and other meetings as required. Participate in the development and implementation of research projects as agreed.
