2 What is the Affordable Private Healthcare Guide? An independent guide for consumers who are considering paying for private treatment or who are looking for affordable alternatives to private medical insurance. The Guide is distributed in print form via 6,000 GP practices, covering 36 million of the population, by and via the web. It is a magazine-style guide, which stands out in GP waiting areas. Rationale In response to lengthening NHS waiting lists and the escalating cost of private medical insurance, more people than ever are looking for affordable options for private treatment. Some may consider self-pay or fixed price surgery; others may be seeking an alternative to traditional, but expensive, PMI. According to a GfK/NOP survey on behalf of the Competition Commission in November 2012: 19% of private hospital patients paid in full themselves, with an average cost of treatment of 5,557; 2% paid fully themselves despite having PMI; and 29% paid partly via PMI and partly themselves. The recent Private Healthcare UK Self-Pay Market Study, published by Intuition Intelligence, demonstrated an increasing focus on self-pay among healthcare providers: 53% of respondents said the number of self-pay patients had increased by at least 5% in the last year; while 79% expect self-pay to increase over the next three years.

7 Getting your message across We are seeking healthcare providers who want to get their message across to the 38 million patients who are looked after by the 6,000 largest primary care practices. You will be investing in a double page spread or a single page that will profile and promote what you have to offer to patients. You may decide to: Focus on one area of treatment Profiling what you can offer to patients seeking, for example, weight loss surgery, or to patients seeking knee or hip replacement. We wish to provide our readers with as broad a range of services as possible. Profile what you have to offer across a range of services A healthcare provider may wish to promote their expertise and suitability for patients across a broad range of services. Your content may be comprised of an advert, advertorial or a combination of the two.

8 Getting your message across The Guide also offers half page, quarter page and directory listings for consultants and clinics who may have a smaller budget but still want to get their message across to the 38 million patients who are looked after by the 6,000 largest primary care practices. Directory listings are grouped by area of treatment, for example orthopaedic surgery, dental treatment, eye surgery, infertility treatment. 17 2014 Guide - pickup report 30,000 copies of the Affordable Private Healthcare Guide were inserted within 5,993 multi-gp surgeries using Waiting Room Information Services (WIS) for the Quarter period. 5 copies per surgery. Merchandisers count up all campaign publication materials at the end of the 3 month cycle. This report details the number of publications taken and benchmarks it with the average. Out of 30,000 publications displayed over 3 months, 27,300 Affordable Private Healthcare Guide publications were selected and taken away in this period. The leaflet pick up rate percentage was 17% higher than the average pick up across other publication campaigns in the same cycle
