At the Year 7 Orientation Day on Tuesday there was a large contingent of very excited students. They had a very positive day as they had their introduction to life in secondary school. 2 PRINCIPAL S REPORT cont. As this is the last parent newsletter for the year, I want to take the opportunity, firstly, to thank all our staff for their professionalism and effort throughout the year in providing for your children and secondly, to thank you, the parents, for your commitment to our College and to your child s education. The positive partnership between home and school is an important one for students to see and this, on top of the message from home that education is important, is what can make a real difference to the future lives of our children. I wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and holiday period and look forward to working with you again in Mrs Éva McMaster Principal End of Semester Reports STUDENT REPORTS End of Semester Reports will be able to be accessed by Parents/Guardians online from Monday, 14 December. Each Semester students develop Personal Learning Goals within the Discovery Program. These goals are selected by individual students and are centred on Numeracy, Literacy and Personal Management Once again reports will be accessed by parents online. This access is gained via the Parent Portal located on the Doncaster Secondary School website. 4 COLLABORATIVE ARTWORK Art / Technology students have been working on a collaborative project during the Headstart program. Students have been testing and trialling a variety of exciting new art materials to refine their observational drawing skills. In this activity students used sticks and ink to create line drawings of found objects in nature. They then experimented with colour using watercolour markers, oil based pastels. Surprisingly this was not the end of our art inquiry! Students were asked to rip up their artwork, yes rip, and arrange pieces on cardboard tiles to build up an effective collage. These tiles will be used to create elaborate scales for a large fish silhouette to be displayed outside the library. So far the progress is looking fantastic. To complement the bright colours used in each collage, junior metal work students are learning new skills and contributing some copper scales. This collaborative artwork will contribute to a scene of underwater characters completed over the following months. Ms Georgie Doherty Art/Technology Domain Leader
5 ART CLUB "After a fantastic year of Art making at Doncaster Secondary College, our students are excited to see new student artwork up in the A/B block breeze way. Well done to all artists!" "Art Club's last activity for the year, decorating our chalkboard! To see more of what's happening in Art Club like "DSC Creative Arts" on Facebook! Have a great holiday everyone and we will see you all next year."
