4 Hype... Cloud*? Not if and when, but how. [*] Special credits to NIST The NIST Definition of Cloud Computing

5 Public or Private Cloud? Still very controversial. Power versus mindset Use-cases, requirements?

6 Cloud Metamorphosis* Enterprise-, Consumer-,Telco-, Media-, IoT-, Industry 4.0, Star-Wars-Cantine-Cloud Or The Judean People's Front Versus The People's Front Of Judea ** Outch. * Metamorphosis is a biological process by which an animal physically develops after birth or hatching, involving a conspicuous and relatively abrupt change in the animal's body structure through cell growth and differentiation. **

7 But there is NFV! Really a question of cloud flavor? More of Cloud-native Applications... But standards! For what, interoperability? If, then TMF etom. Hang on, etom for interop? Hm.

8 Cloud-native Applications Uh, another buzzer. Not really. Virtualization vs Cloudification. Design for Failure (Netflix, Google, etc). Aim. Applications that fully exploit cloud features (ICCLab Cloud Native Applicaitons Framework) With Micro-Services.

9 Micro-Services Here we go, another buzzer. SO A familiar one. Get well along with containers (mtc). Still not cloud per-se. Aim. Scalable development process. And, btw, require orchestration.

10 Orchestration Huge at the moment. Why? Recall. Cloud not if and when. But how. Cloud==Automation. Complex (micro-)service-oriented applications. Orchestration on thing, configuration another. And also placement (ICCLab Hurtle) But who does manage/control, provider or consumer? Loads of enterprise legacy.

11 Enterprise Adoption Less a question of technical maturity. But how to migrate applications. And moreover. How to integrate into enterprise environment, processes, mindset? IT-Veterans-Reflex: Standards.

12 Standards Hardly any one cares. Lock-in? Yeah, we know... However. How to maintain ISO- Certification? Cloud Incident Management (ICCLab Watchtower)

13 How to make money. Rating, Charging, Billing. ICCLab killer app (service). Not sexy, but so useful. Especially RCBaaS (ICCLab Cyclops)

14 How to save money. Energy efficiency in the cloud. Consolidate workloads. Save power. Nice concept (ICCLab Cloud Energy Monitoring). But mind Co-location Dcs. Quote: We'll never touch a customer WL. Issue, but still minor. Customer pays.

15 And what happened to. Cloud Brokers. No wide (significant) commercial uptake.

16 And what happened to. Federation of Clouds We couldn't agree.

17 And what happened to. Software Defined Networking. Deep, deep, in the valley of desillusion. Academics focus on the tool. But industry waits for applications. Original motivations marginalized. :(

18 And what happened to. HPC/DCC in the cloud. There, somewhat. Active research domain. Yet we couldn't find someone with BigData :) (>>PBytes)

19 On the horizon Cloud-Robotics. Wide variety of remote-controlled devices. Many use cases. Makes good sense. Good match with cloud (NIST) principles. Definitively relevant for the future.

20 On the horizon Near: From IaaS to PaaS (ICCLab CF User Interface). Farther: With all these services around. Service-Abstraction needed between PaaS and SaaS. - Talk to Josef, Head of Service Prototyping

21 Conclusions Cloud Computing becoming mainstream. Healthy area, increasing uptake. Likely dominated by big players. Still maintains speed of innovation.
