2 A High-impact Partnership By partnering with an organization that helps drive Hungary s economic development to deliver coaching to managers and leaders, ICF Hungary is making a difference one coaching conversation at a time. The American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham Hungary) is an NGO representing American, international and local business interests in the country. The organization is a key driver of Hungary s economic development, with a mission to make doing business in Hungary easier, more efficient and more reliable. In 2014, AmCham Hungary partnered with the ICF Hungary Charter Chapter to deliver the Coach Up! Coaching Excellence Program as a benefit to managers from AmCham s 400 member businesses. AmCham Hungary s human resources committee conceived the program, established eligibility requirements and oversaw its administration. ICF Hungary recruited 34 ICF Associate Certified Coaches and Professional Certified Coaches to deliver pro bono coaching. Each Coach Up! engagement was slated to last between four and six sessions, depending on the agreement between each coach and client. A Valuable Gift By giving the gift of pro bono coaching to nonprofit organizations, the ICF Chapters featured here are helping ICF and the ICF Foundation advance their shared goal of fostering professional coaching, coaching skills and coaching mindset as an integral part of society. As a result of the partnership, ICF Hungary increased visibility of the ICF brand and ICF Credentials in Hungary and helped position ICF as a preferred resource for the business community in the region. Meanwhile, managers selected to receive pro bono coaching had the opportunity to experience the transformative benefits of professional coaching in their lives benefits which they passed on to their respective organizations. 2 GIFT OF COACHING AWARDS 2014 CASE STUDIES

3 Help Where it s Most Needed Through trainings and activities based on the ICF Core Competencies, the coaches of ICF Argentina supported volunteers for and beneficiaries of a nonprofit that helps families when they need it most. For families, there are few prospects scarier than facing the serious illness of a child. Since 1974, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) network of local chapters has provided support and comfort to billions of families in this situation through locally tailored programs and offerings, including homes-away-from-home for the families of ill children, family rooms at hospitals, and mobile health-care units to give children in underserved areas access to critical medical care. In 2014, ICF Argentina contacted Buenos Aires RMHC chapter to offer a pro bono program to enhance the performance of RMHC volunteers and the well-being of families benefiting from the organization s offerings. Following a meeting with RMHC chapter leadership to get insight into the top challenges facing volunteers and families, ICF Argentina coaches developed a pair of training offerings for volunteers and families, respectively. The coaches used the ICF Core Competencies as the foundation of a volunteer-development offering that focused on topics including effective communication, active and empathetic listing, initiative, collaboration, and achieving work/life balance. More than 100 RMHC volunteers participated in the program. ICF Argentina s programming for 80 RMHC families focused on interpersonal communication skills; thriving in shared living quarters; and giving and receiving support and compassion in the face of life-anddeath situations. 3 GIFT OF COACHING AWARDS 2014 CASE STUDIES

4 Poised for the Future As Singapore s nonprofit sector expands, ICF Singapore s Coaches for Community initiative is poised to meet the demand for high-impact coaching that transforms nonprofit leaders and beneficiaries alike. Singapore s social service sector is growing rapidly. According to the Singapore Workforce Development Authority, there are more than 19,000 personnel working in the country s community and social services sector today. Since 2003, the field has been growing by three percent annually. Although the demand for trained nonprofit professionals is growing in Singapore, most nonprofits and voluntary welfare organizations lack the necessary resources to develop t heir human capital and nurture the next generation of leaders in the field. Since 2008, the coaches of ICF Singapore have been working to fill this gap through the ICF Charter Chapter s Coaches for Community (C4C) program, which pairs ICF Member coaches with leaders and beneficiaries of nonprofit organizations. Chapter Leaders report that the pro bono coaching initiative has been a win-win proposition, empowering nonprofit organizations throughout Singapore to facilitate meaningful change and engaging members of ICF Singapore like never before. C4C served four beneficiary organizations in 2014: The Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, which works to help Singapore s nonprofit sector create a leadership pipeline and build effective boards through leadership development programs for board members, executive directors and high-potentials. The Asian Women s Welfare Association, a family service center that provides casework, counseling, information and a referral service for individuals and families facing challenges in life. Mendaki SENSE, a job-skills training organization delivering a program to support the career progression for Singapore s Malay/ Muslim work force. Social Innovation Park, a nonprofit organization designed to educate, empower and enhance social entrepreneurs in Singapore and around the world. 5 The coaching clients who benefited from C4C s pro bono offerings offered overwhelmingly positive feedback on the coaching experience. I am able to define my role in the organization better and align it with my personal growth and development, one nonprofit leader reported. I can differentiate [between] process issues and performance issues, and have a better idea on how to proceed to deal with these issues. Yoon Wai Nam, CEO of the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership, said the pro bono coaching delivered to 93 leaders through C4C would have ripple effects throughout Singapore s nonprofit sector. Through this partnership, emerging leaders as well as established leaders in the sector are being subtly challenged to step up their leadership to the next level, he said. Many have shared their delight in finding self-insights and leadership through their coaching journey. More importantly, they feel more equipped to address their day-to-day leadership challenges, which is what we have aimed to achieve. C4C owes its success to the creativity of ICF Singapore s Chapter Leaders, who have sought to overcome the Charter Chapter s own time and resource limitations. In the past half-decade, they have established and refined processes to streamline recruitment, training and management of C4C volunteers and to evaluate program outcomes. ICF Singapore has also identified free technology solutions to further ease the challenges of administering a large-scale pro bono coaching initiative. In addition to supporting meaningful social change throughout Singapore, C4C has yielded substantial dividends for the chapter. The initiative is a key driver of membership recruitment (only ICF Member coaches are invited to volunteer through C4C), and it s a significant source of member engagement: In 2014 alone, 100 coaches one-third of the chapter s membership delivered 1,000-plus hours of pro bono coaching to C4C clients. Founded in 2004, the ICF Foundation is a separate nonprofit entity from the International Coach Federation. The Foundation relies upon the generosity of donors from around the world to address the following objectives: To create and maintain a volunteer service of professional business and life coaches offering pro bono coaching; To conduct research and commission member studies on a variety of topics on issues related to the coaching profession; and To carry out other activities consistent with the organization s 501(c)(3) purposes. Learn more at FoundationofICF.org. As C4C s volunteer leaders look ahead to the initiative s next five years, they re embracing opportunities to further expand its scope. In March 2015, 32 C4C coaches attended ST Jobs Express Fair They delivered 110 hours of pro bono Career Coaching to more than 200 attendees searching for their first jobs or considering career transformations or transitions. Additional plans for 2015 and beyond include collaborations with Singapore s government and quasi-government sectors to bring awareness and the experience of coaching to leaders and executives. Our C4C initiative is one of ICF Singapore s proudest achievements, said Anisha Kaul, ACC, president of ICF Singapore. We ve created a platform and opportunities for member coaches to serve their community by doing what they love, and it s having an incredible impact on individuals who wouldn t normally have access to professional coaches.
