2 Operation Loop Transformation Improving the design and structure of your Loop Pages Can you manage the basics on your Loop course pages (uploading files, folders and web links), but your pages need a bit of a make-over? This workshop will guide you through customising your Loop course pages using design strategies such as: Chunking content (into Loop books/loop lessons) for improved usability Applying web design best practice such as consistency, clarity, responsiveness, aesthetics and efficiency to improve the student experience Embedding images, video and presentations to add colour and personality to your Loop pages and to support student engagement Improving navigation by customising your course layout Adapt the formatting options available in Loop to suit the pedagogical needs of your course page/s Use the Loop book activity, Loop web pages and the Loop lesson activity to structure your resources more effectively Use tables and labels to improve the layout of your course page and to improve navigation Embed images and source copyright free images to use on your Loop pages Embed video from YouTube/Vimeo on your Loop pages Embed presentations available on SlideShare on your Loop pages Upload videos to the video streaming service on Loop MediaCore Course Structure: This course is a hands-on workshop where you will work on your Loop course page/s. It may be useful to choose a Loop course page to work on in advance of the workshop. Please not that the workshop is structured in two parts to facilitate staff teaching at 2pm. 3 Basic Video Editing for Teaching and Learning The pedagogical benefits of video have been broadly acknowledged and video is now is widely used in teaching and learning. With so many video recording options available on tablets, smart phones and digital cameras, many of you will have gathered a bank of video footage for use on your courses. While editing video can be incredibly time consuming, some basic editing can make a marked improvement on the educational value of your footage. This workshop will guide you through the process of basic video editing using free (and user friendly) video editing tools. You will also learn how to stream your edited videos on platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo and on the MediaCore platform integrated in Loop. Understand key video editing terms and processes such as: audio sweetening, transitions, filters, audio tracks, titles/captions, rendering Use Windows Movie Maker/ imovie to: edit video clips, add text, adjust colour, add title, add audio Upload and/embed your edited video clips to your Loop course pages Create a YouTube channel and upload video clips Use YouTube Video Editor to: edit video clips, adjust colour, add titles, add audio Course Structure: This course is a hands-on workshop and you will edit video file footage on your own laptop/tablet. Please ensure you have either Windows Movie Maker (PC users) or imovie (mac/ipad users) available on your device before you attend this session. If you have a piece of video that you would like to edit, please bring the file along to the workshop. Target audience: All staff interested in developing basic video editing skills to edit existing video footage. 4 Collaborative Online Learning in Loop Part 1 Groups, Wikis, Glossaries and the Forum Loop (Moodle) was built around the social constructivist learning theory and so offers many opportunities for online collaborative learning. This workshop will introduce some of the options available for collaborative online learning on Loop: the wiki, the glossary and the online forum. Central to collaborative learning on Loop is the use of groups and groupings and this workshop will also guide you through the process of managing groups/groupings. Assess the suitability of various collaborative online learning activities on Loop for your particular pedagogical needs Set up and manage Groups and Groupings on Loop pages Create and manage a Collaborative Wiki on Loop Create and manage a Forum on Loop Create and manage a Glossary on Loop Course Structure: This course is a hands on workshop and you will get the opportunity to create collaborative online learning assignments on Loop. 5 Collaborative Online Learning in Loop Part 2 The Database and Peer Assessment activities Loop (Moodle) is built around the social constructivist learning theory and so offers many opportunities for online collaborative learning. This workshop will introduce two of the options available for collaborative online learning in Loop: the Database and the Peer Assessment activity. 6 Making Movies for the Classroom with software and animation tools The availability of free and user friendly online video creation tools means that creating video resources has never been easier. You can create videos without leaving your desk using free software such as Go Animate, Powtoon etc. Even PowerPoint allows you to create a basic video resource to use in your teaching and learning. At St. Patrick s College, you also have the option to even create a video resource using integrated Lecture Capture (available in E214, E218, E223 & E224), Loop Interact. This workshop will introduce you to some of the basic video creation options available to you on your laptop/pc and will support you in assessing each tool based on your particular pedagogical needs. You will create a storyboard for a short video resource and create this short video using one of the following options: PowerPoint, Go Animate or Powtoon. Assess a variety of free online video creation tools for use in your teaching and learning Storyboard a short video resource to use for teaching and learning Use Powtoon/Go Animate/PowerPoint to create a video resource Upload your video to MediaCore/Panopto on Loop Course Structure: This course is a hands-on workshop where you create a short video using a third party video creation tool on your own laptop/tablet. Target audience: Staff interested in creating basic video resources for teaching and learning. June Venue: B139
7 Basic Video Production A Beginners Guide This workshop will introduce you to the process of basic digital video production taking you from the storyboarding an idea through to editing your footage. This workshop is very much a beginner s guide to video and is open to all staff interested in producing basic videos for use in their professional practice. Understand key concepts of video production such as: storyboarding, production planning, framing and camera angles, colour balance, coverage, Plan a short video production Direct an interview on camera Use a digital camera to shoot video footage Use a wearable camera to shoot video footage Edit a short piece of video Course Structure: This course is a hands-on workshop where you will work as a team to create a short video production using a basic video camera.
