3 Welcome To Tampa It s our home, but serves as a vacation getaway to 15 million people each year. People come for good reason, because it s such a great place to be! We revel in the kiss of the sun, the caress of the breeze and the sparkle of the turquoise water all around us. Sometimes at the end of a long winter weekend we call our friends, who are buried under a blanket of snow, and tell them how we spent our day: playing golf in short sleeves; enjoying our boat; hosting a picnic in the park. At times, the temptation to rub it in wears down even the best of us. Ideally located on the coast of Florida s beautiful Gulf of Mexico, the Tampa Bay region provides easy access to Gulf beaches and surrounding cities. The area s central location also provides access to other Florida treasures, perfect for day trips to Orlando, Daytona and Miami.

4 Living In Tampa Weekends are never dull in Tampa Bay. In addition to cultural events, the area offers theme parks like Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, professional and collegiate sports, boating, year-round golf and a destination where residents can escape to marvel at Florida s natural majesty.

5 Living In Tampa The sun shines on us an average of 361 days a year, one of the many reasons Tampa is an ideal place to call home. From restaurants to parks, to oceans and nightlife, there is an abundance of things to do for people of all ages. The Channelside and Ybor City areas of downtown Tampa are both modern and historic, serving as places for young and old. The dowtown area has a number of restaurants and shops for strolling the city streets during the day, and those same streets become alive when the sun goes down to yield to a buzzing nightlife.

6 Tampa Beaches The average annual temperature in Tampa is a comfortable 72 degrees. Tampa s weather is a combination of bright sunny days tempered by gentle bay breezes. If you are going to pack a coat, make sure it s a light one. The average winter temperature in Tampa is 63 degrees. Local residents enjoy sunshine and beautiful weather year round. The Tampa Bay area is lined by 26 miles of famous white sand beaches. Local spots like Caladesi Island, Fort Desoto Park and Siesta Key are regularly listed among the top 10 beaches in America. Nearly 16 million travelers come through Tampa International Airport each year. The airport offers the ease of a small city with the advantages of 250 daily flights, and has been listed as the most efficient airport in America. The Bay Area is such a hotbed of diversity that the U.S. Census Bureau named the area one of the five most diverse, integrated urban areas in the country. This diverse mix of homes and cultures adds to the area s high quality of life.

USF offers 232 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including a doctor of medicine. 12 Lee Roy Selmon Athletics Center The Lee Roy Selmon Athletic Center includes a 10,000-square foot strength and conditioning center with state-of-the-art medical and strength equipment. It also has an ultra-impressive Academic Enrichment Center that covers one-fourth of the upper floor in the two-story complex. The AEC includes a computer study lab, a separate study lounge, a library and office space for counselors and tutors. Downstairs showcases USF s history, in a 2,200 square foot Hall of Fame.

13 Sports Medicine Sports Medicine is housed in the Athletic Training Center inside the Lee Roy Selmon Athletic Center. The 5,400 square foot clinic is designed with the healthcare of every student-athlete in mind, and features state-of-the-art modalities and rehab equipment, as well as three Hydroworx series pools. The Hydroworx 1000 is equipped with an underwater treadmill, three jets, an underwater camera monitoring system and a computer control console. These pools are cutting edge technology, providing an extra tool for the student-athletes to return to play quickly and safely.

14 Strengh and Conditioning A 10,000-square foot strength and conditioning center, complete with a protein and hydration station, allows USF student-athletes to get the absolute most out of their training. Each sport has a strength coach committed to building and overseeing each athlete s strength and conditioning program, and the facilities ensure the athletes have everything they need to make the gains needed to succeed.

16 USF Varsity Tennis Courts Thomas A. James provided the University of South Florida athletics department with a $500,000 gift as the lead effort to construct a tennis center for USF s men s and women s programs. The gift, which is part of the USF: Unstoppable Campaign, is expected to jump-start the fundraising to build the facility, which will be named the James Tennis Center. I have been a supporter of various programs at USF for a number of years, James said. As a tennis player for 60 years, I ve always believed that the Bulls tennis teams should be competitive with all of Florida s college programs. To achieve that objective, USF needs state-of-the-art facilities to attract top talent as well as develop them to become the best they can be.

19 ATHLETIC CONFERENCE Not entirely unlike the nation that provides its namesake, the American Athletic Conference was born from an ideal in which members with ambitious goals are provided with the means to succeed in their quests for excellence. With roots that extend to three conferences, the American Athletic Conference membership consists of 11 institutions: the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Connecticut, the University of Houston, the University of Memphis, Southern Methodist University, the University of South Florida, Tulane University, the University of Tulsa, East Carolina University and Temple University. The season sees the U.S. Naval Academy join the ranks in football only. The American, which operated as the Big East Conference from 1979 to 2013, will immediately take a place at the forefront of Division I athletics, with schools that have played in a combined five Bowl Championship Series games, won five NCAA men s basketball titles since 1999, and won nine NCAA women s basketball championships since 1995.

20 Matt Hill USF Head Men s Tennis Coach Joined the Bulls in 2012 after spending the last five years as an assistant at Mississippi State where he helped lead the Bulldogs to top 20 ITA finishes in both of the last two seasons. Led USF to an American Conference Championship in 2014, and was named American Coach of the Year. In his last season at MSU, he helped the Bulldogs reach its highest ranking (11) in over a decade. Was named ITA Southern Region Assistant Coach of the Year and SEC Assistant Coach of the Year in Graduated from Ferris State in As a member of the tennis team at Ferris State, he helped lead the Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

21 Brandon Wagner Assistant Men s Tennis Coach Joined the Bulls family in September, Has worked as a professional coach for numerous Top 100 ATP and WTA players. Coached ATP Top 10 Ranked John Isner break into the top 80 for the first time. Former All-American was part of the University of Georgia s National Championship Title Team in Made a return trip to the National Team Championship finals in 2002, and was part of two SEC Titles in 2001 and 2002 Has a Doctorate of Integrated Medicine from the University of Natural Medicine.
