Herbalism Program FAQs I m interested in the Herbalism program, but I m not sure it s right for me? Professional Training This course helps prepare students to take the entrance exam for professional membership in the American Herbalist Guild (AHG), the only professional association representing herbalists in the United States. This course is very economical. Now is the time to enter this expanding field and have the chance of grandfathering at far less cost. Personal Enrichment Many students take this course to enhance personal knowledge of healing plants. With this in-depth training, you will be able to live a healthier, happier life. You may use your skills to support the health of your friends and extended family. This course will give you the technical skills to apply effective natural medicine in the lives of those close to you. Designed for Adult Learners Class times and content are designed for adult learners and nontraditional students. The course content is focused on the essentials for maximum learning efficiency. CLIMB intentionally designed the Herbalism Program so that students could begin any term as they are not in a required order. Every topic draws from, and contributes to, each of the other topics so students who begin Winter or Spring term are not at any learning disadvantage from a student who begins in Fall, for example.

Are there credentials I can apply this toward? Educational Guidelines of the AHG and R.H. Credential The CLIMB for Health Professionals Herbalism course is designed to meet the needs of those working toward applying to The American Herbalists Guild for Registered Herbalist (R.H.) status. The topics and class hours are designed to be consistent with the educational guidelines of the AHG. The R.H. credential requires clinical experience, so the certified student needs to practice, or to attend a clinical training program, for a period of time, before applying for the R.H. credential. The Registered Herbalist credential is granted upon successful application to the American Herbalists Guild. Applications are reviewed by an admissions committee of several AHG registered herbalists. Admission to the credential is by peer review. Since herbal training is diverse, the committee uses a set of criteria to evaluate applicants. AHG publishes educational guidelines for working toward the credential. When completed with classroom hours and recorded homework hours, Modules 1, 2, & 3 (Herbal Healing, Herbs & Health, and Holistic Herbalism) will count for approximately half of the total academic course work, and the majority of the academic topics, required for the R.H. credential. (This will depend somewhat on the applicant s background, previous education and experience.) Students will then accumulate the remaining necessary course work by taking the Advanced Professional Herbalist courses (Modules 4, 5, & 6) and a few additional hours of therapeutic intensives, or some similar combination of additional class hours covering the classes needed. Some students, depending on background, may need to complete additional hours in anatomy and clinical experience. Students receive a Professional Herbalist Award of Proficiency upon completion of the first three course modules, and will have obtained approximately half of the academic knowledge required toward applying for professional membership in the American Herbalists Guild, the only professional association representing herbalists in the United States. Each module is one term in length. We recommend you learn more about the educational guidelines of the AHG and R.H. credential I know this is an online course and I m a little nervous about it. What should I know? First, let s acknowledge that if you re new to online learning, it is expected that you d have some anxiety and you are not alone. We will do all we can to make it as simple as possible because we know that once you ve walked through the initial learning curve, you ll be amazed by how easy it can be. That having been said, you as the student have a responsibility in making the time to learn a few things. We can t do it all for you. For example, you will have to carve out a space of time to become familiar with a new learning tool, prepare a learning space in your home or office, purchase a headset/mic for the lecture portion, etc.

So let s talk about a few logistics. The week prior to your course starting, you will receive an to your PCC account with instructions for your online course. PCC s learning management system is called Desire2Learn or D2L for short. We will be referring to your going to D2L. For example, those directions will walk you through how to: Get into your D2L course Identify the tabs, links, etc. that you will access and what they are for Provide contact information for Student Help Each student is expected to follow the instructions and do the few advance items recommended in order to make their online learning experience successful. ONLINE Lecture: Online course community and networking: Communication with Students: Student Time Investment: Course Evaluation: Additional Resources and Value Added Learning: Student Assessment for Grading: All lectures are in real time you, your classmates, and the instructor are to be present during each scheduled lecture time. For Modules 1, 2, & 3 (Herbal Healing, Herbs & Health, and Holistic Herbalism), you may participate in either the 2 PM or 5:30 lecture time PM (Pacific Standard Time). Modules 4, 5, & 6 have one live lecture option at 5:30 PM (Pacific Standard Time). Each week, one of the lectures will be recorded so that student can access at another time. The Herbalism courses have instructor Office Hours which is a time for students to access the instructor online for individual questions. Office Hours are optional for students but it is highly recommended that you utilize. In some courses, students are encouraged or required to work together on an assignment or project. This will be accomplished at the same place where lectures and Office Hours occur but in an online discussion forum or real time breakout classroom. All communication will be to your MyPCC address. Syllabi, handouts, etc. will be available within your course location in MyPCC. Students will be encouraged to ask questions, invite responses, and participate in discussions and reflections. See above for instructions to access your MyPCC account and your courses. Courses have specific lecture hours which students are advised to attend. For Modules 1, 2, & 3 (Herbal Healing, Herbs & Health, and Holistic Herbalism), you may participate in either the 2 PM or 5:30 lecture time PM (Pacific Standard Time).. Modules 4, 5, & 6 have one live lecture option at 5:30 PM (Pacific Standard Time). Office Hours are optional. A rule of thumb for college courses is that students spend 2-3 hours of study time outside of class for every hour spent in class. CLIMB for Health Professionals courses are academically rigorous and students should expect to commit several hours per week studying for maximum learning. In particular it is expected that students will have completed their reading assignments in advance of lecture time. We value student feedback. At a minimum, students will be surveyed at the end of the course for comments toward improving course format, instruction, communication, and administration. Instructors regularly provide students with recommended reading such as articles, research findings, news briefs, videos and so on, which impact the subject matter. Students are encouraged to research such items themselves and share with their classmates. Online, distance learning provides a unique opportunity to networks with peers around the world. This creates an environment which combines core concept learning with customized and personal learning. These courses are SC (Successfully Completed) or NSC (Not Successfully Completed). Quizzes/tests will be taken online, in a timed format. Students will also be required to participate in an ongoing discussion board which is part of your grade. The discussion board is accessed via D2L and expectations as well as instructions are outlined in the course syllabus. Late work of any kind is not accepted for any reason.

Who can enroll? You must have graduated from High School, and some college experience is recommended. Our students represent a broad demographic: twenty-somethings to retirees; professionals in the health field, professionals looking to make a career change, individuals with no formal college education, individuals with Masters degrees, male/female, those looking for credentials in Herbalism, those needing continuing education hours only, etc. What is expected of students in this program? Register in a timely manner Pay for the course when they register, or arrange a payment plan with the college (this can be done when you register). PCC has initiated an aggressive policy on payment. If a student does not pay when registering or make a payment plan they will be dropped from the course. Set up their MyPCC account. Students will receive ALL communication through their PCC account. You must make certain that you check your junk mail or other such places to ensure your internet service recognized your PCC or you will miss all communication from the college relative to your course. Be prompt in attending your class, with an attitude for learning and personal/professional growth. Come prepared. There is considerable reading for these classes and students who make a commitment to studying this material prior to attending lecture will find their learning to be significantly enhanced. Experience has shown that students who do not come prepared to the lectures (have not read the material) do not do as well. This is a college level course. If you have not been in school for some time you must be prepared to make accommodations in your life and schedule to ensure your success. A rule of thumb is that students must spend 2-3 hours of personal study for every hour in class. That applies to this program. Further, this is a dynamic field, meaning it is ever changing. You never arrive. You are always learning something new. That having been said, it is not an expectation of the program that students will complete the fourteen courses being experts in the subject. This is training toward a growth industry demanding life-long-learning. Show respect to the instructor and fellow classmates. Complete assignments, quizzes, etc on time. Late submissions are not accepted for ANY reason. If you do not complete a requirement of the class, lost points will most likely cause course failure.

What can students expect from the program? Online education requires a shift in one s learning experience. CLIMB for Health Professionals will: Provide subject matter experts, who are fellow life-long learners, for exceptional instruction. Promote knowledge generation and sharing Generate learning which students can incorporate into their future career activities, decisions and initiatives. Support a safe, positive learning environment where student interaction and contribution is encouraged Supply answers to individual questions that are not covered in written material Assure our commitment to continuous course improvement by CLIMB for Health Professionals staff and instructors Program Cost: Per term: $899 each term covers one module Books are additional and cost will vary from term to term. Students are expected to have a headset with microphone.

How do I register and pay for the course? Once in the course description, scroll to the bottom, write down the CRN number and click on Registration.

Follow the instructions to Create Your Account, including your PCC , and Register in MyPCC DON T FORGET TO SET UP YOUR PCC ACCOUNT. This will take you to the Student Detail Schedule for the term you select. Additional information regarding registration confirmation can be found at

MyPCC Login Help Here's how to log into MyPCC the first time. Go to You will see this page: 2. Click on MyPCC in the top right:

3. Click on First Time User, below the yellow box: You will be asked three (3) questions: 1. Your G Number (your Student ID number) 2. Your Date of Birth 3. Your Zip Code Type them in. You MUST know these things to continue. Click "Submit."

Your User Name is shown. Write it down. Next, click on the button "Click here for Password Information." Click on the button "Close this window and return to the MyPCC login page." Now you can Log in. User Name = (You wrote it down, didn't you?) Password = Your Date of Birth, in six (6) numbers. (This is a temporary password) Temporary Password Help: If your Date of Birth is: January 1, then your Temporary Password is: If your Date of Birth is: May 29, then your Temporary Password is:

Type in your User Name and Password, then click the "Login Now" button. Need Help? Call the Help Desk at OR, in the evening: Call Next, you will be asked to create a new password. 1. Create a new password and type it in. 2. Type in the new password again. 3. Click "Save Changes."

New Password Help Your password should be something that is easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. Examples: o The password must be 9 characters or more. o The password cannot be too long -- no more than 20 letters and numbers. o The password must have at least one letter in it. o The password must have at least one number in it. ilovepcc6 is a good password. ilovepcc is a bad password, because it is not long enough and does not have any numbers is a bad password, because it does not have any letters. 777ccrr111 is a good password, because it has letters AND numbers and it is longer than 9 characters. Remember your new password! You will need it whenever you log into MyPCC. Next, you will be asked to create a "secret question." If you lose your password in the future, this will help you. Think of something you know. Make a question out of it. For example:

When you are finished, click "Submit Setup." Secret Question Help The secret question should be something that is easy for you to remember, but hard for someone else to guess. Your question and answer does not have to be in English. Good Examples: What was the name of your first school? Where was your mother born? What is the name of your favorite book? Type in the question AND the answer. You can have more than one answer. Remember exactly what you typed for the Answer to your Secret Question! Now you can use MyPCC. The next time you log into MyPCC, use your User Name and new Password. Created by: TSS Training Team After you have access to your MyPcc account: 1. Click on My Courses to get to your class(es)

2. Once inside My Courses, click on the class you want to access. We ll use Advanced A&P for Coders as our example. 3. Please explore the links within your class in the left hand column. For example, your syllabus and handouts will be under Files. Additional, optional reading could be placed under News, access to web based articles, videos and such would be under Links, and any Announcements would be located within that place. 4. Any assignments are to be electronically sent to the instructor s PCC account by the deadline established in the syllabus.
