Redesigned the campus wide networking replacing the existing Windows machines to the Linux Operating Systems. This includes the Firewall, Linux Routers, Mail Server, Proxy Server, DNS Server, FTP Server, DHCP Server, Intrusion Detection Server, etc. Computer Programmer Unify Programming under Unix for the Department Library System Developed a DOS based application programming in C and Cobol for quick search of the Library Information using binary search algorithm. Developed a program in Visual Foxpro for the Payroll system for the University Govt. When I joined the Cochin University of Science and Technology one of the leading institution in the Research and Development in India, my Job was to handle M.Tech. (Computer and Information Sciences) students in doing their projects in the Computer Lab. The Lab was equipped with the Berkley Unix system V, Sco Unix Systems and DOS based PCs. I was able to do a lot of shell programming in Unix and the user administration and maintainance of the above systems. I used to modify the Unify programs running under the Unix System for easy retrival and maintenance of the Library Informations. During the mid 90 s our lab was equipped with the internet facility and Windows NT machines. I configured a Proxy Server serving our students to browse through the internet. During the Late 90 s our University got a leased line of 64 KBPS. We were able to set up a campus wide network with the help the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands. Our team got a chance to set up a fully operational network system with the Proxy server, DNS server, DHCP Server, Mail Server, Cisco Routers, 3Com router, Hubs and Switches and all other type of systems for a Campus wide network. After few year the users grow higher and we were not able to handle with the then bandwidth of 1 Mbps. During this time I was responsible for the Campus wide network. With my past experience of the Unix flavour and the Training I got from the Colombo University I planned to change the whole servers to the Linux OS. My first task was to replace the proxy and firewall. This was successfully done with Redhat Linux 8.0 and the Squid Proxy. The next task was to change the mail server. Obviously this was the most difficult and sensitive task I have made. First thing was to install the mail server. I done it with Qmail as the mail server and lot of other related packages. Still our users were using the Microsoft exchange server. Without disturbing our users I was able to migrate the Exchange users to Qmail. Also I was able to 3

4 transfer the messages from the Exchange server to Qmail server. I successfully done this and the mail server is still serving my University community. Then I installed the Apache Server and migrated the IIS to apache with the support of Mysql, Php, etc. Slowly I redesign the campus network into four subnets with linux as the gateway and firewall. This was done to avoid the broadcasting of packets. Now with the help of the leading computer network company in India (CMC) I upgraded the network into 1 Gbps. We are all looking forward to upgrade the existing bandwidth from I0 Gbps. Also the old Servers will be replaced with new high-end Servers.
