Period of implementation Pilot project Testing period and limited use for bus transit, business model of LPP City Public Transport Company (owned by Municipality of Ljubljana and other suburban municipitialies), decision: Payment in cash is not valid payment for bus transit service Date of the system start-up 2010 Electronic payment System is accessible for users List of the technical solutions adopted to implement URBANA Bus Tracking System (implemented in 2005 for the case of Fleet management and Time table validation): geolocation of buses (AVL) using GPS/GPRS system Urbanomat s kiosks and POS terminals at selling points (IKT infrastructure fibber optics and power supply managed by JP LPT d.o.o.) GPRS Validators on buses, parking places, etc. (500 pcs.)
9 2/3 Solution n. 1»The URBANA card no-contact prepaid smart card for public services«technical difficulties / challenges the type of card: value & time card (different cards) and payment control (time card users must show ID document); Traceability (Information Commissioner's decision about the prohibition to collect location data anonymisation and limited storage and deletion of personal data is necessary): Collection of data not taken into account when developing the Urbana card; Personal data collected by LPP (the controller of system) are inadequate and excessive in relation to the purpose of the processing; Non-standard service (solution on demand) and the vision of upgrade (LUR, Slovenia) The strengths/goals of the Solution n.1 and positive impacts on the population Different operators and different fares tariffs system (zones in City of Ljubljana and lines in LUR) Very positive impacts: no cash, possibility of transfer routes (90 mins), universality Positive impacts for using new technologies Better traveller counting (with No traceability!), easier control and better planning of variable routes (shorter/longer lines on the way to the public transit on demand) Change of modal split and change of travel intentions in City of Ljubljana (not evaluated)

12 2/3 Solution n. 2»The LPP BusInfo«Technical difficulties / challenges Accuracy of AVL subsystem (Automatic Vehicle location) using only GPS The speed and the accuracy of GPRS link (delays of SMS/data delivery) Non-standard solution with the vision of upgrade: access control, bus priority The strengths/goals of the solution and positive impacts on the population From 2005 to the reliability of system: the information accuracy is better (from 80 % to 97 main bus stations, from 60 % to 85% on others); Less staff - controllers (11 less 45 %): Very positive impacts: free information via mobile applications, best route selection via Google Transit system Positive impacts for using new technologies The optimisation of fleet and staff management; Improved passenger satisfaction and increased passenger retention; An improved image of the public transport service. Change of modal split and change of travel intentions in Ljubljana s region (not evaluated yet)
