2 Science and Engineering University of Colorado at Colorado Springs - Colorado Springs, Colorado State of the art classrooms, lecture halls, formal/informal interaction spaces, and community outreach. Recipient of two energy awards, the Science and Engineering exemplifies a flexible, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment dedicated to sustainable design and its advancement. The design began with the simple idea of a perpetual, active teaching and research facility. Its purpose is twofold: serve the University s research/academic needs and function as a community resource to stimulate interest in science, engineering, and technology among schoolchildren and other visitors. Throughout the building, strict sustainability guidelines informed and shaped the design. The project incorporated features to reduce energy consumption and annual operating costs, such as highly insulated wall/roof systems, a thin film 16.2kw photovoltaic system on the roof, high performance glass, and sunscreens to manage sunlight and heat gain. And while the floor plate profile maximizes interior daylighting, each elevation was also studied for interior function, campus context, and solar orientation. The result is a building 31% more energy efficient than ASHRAE 90.1 base building. AR7 also created the Master Plan for the entire central Cragmor campus and the Science and Engineering Complex to be implemented in a phased manner. Energy Design Recognition: CoBiz Magazine Colorado Sustainable Design Award (partnership with ULI Colorado, USGBC Colorado, AIA Colorado) 2009 Institutional Award from the Colorado Renewable Energy Society LEED Gold from the United States Green Council Cost: $ 47,500,000 Size: 156,000 sf Completed: 2009 Delivery Method: CM at Risk Client: University of Colorado at Colorado Springs David Metcalf, Project Manager, UCCS/Jacobs Engineering, , david.m.metcalf@jacobs.com 24 Windsor Readiness Center 15 June 2010 AR7

Stone Award for Excellence in Design (first ranked final year design student) Stuart s strengths and abilities are well-rounded in design, tectonics, and construction. His passion is rooted in the process from design conception and the crafting of well-detailed buildings, to the construction oversight of excellent design. As a designer and project architect, Stuart typically is responsible for day-to-day development of the architectural design, document production/coordination, and communication with the client, design team and contractor during all phases of design and construction. Stuart works with our staff in preparing the technical aspects of construction documents, coordinating the work of subconsultants, representing our team on site during construction, in addition to performing internal quality control peer review of documents. Among his areas of specialized expertise are: design, detail development of the building s envelope, integration of building systems, interiors, consultant coordination, and construction administration. Prior to joining AR7 in 1997, Stuart spent 16 years as an architect in New York City. As an associate and project architect at Mitchell/Giurgola Architects, Stuart acted as designer and project architect of both public and private sector work. His projects included higher education buildings, parks, primary and secondary schools, corporate facilities, and museums winning local, state, and national design awards. At AR7 Stuart has focused on facilities for student housing and higher education. In 1990, Stuart won an open competition to design the New York City Police Memorial located in Battery Park City, Manhattan. This project is dedicated to police officers killed in the line of duty. Selected from approximately 180 entries, his design was completed at a cost of $1.7 million and dedicated in October The project won an Honor Award from AIA/Denver in 1998 and the Tucker Award from the Stone Institute in Project Experience: Science & Engineering, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, CO Wall Street Crossing (retail/office/residential), Eagle, CO Highland District Housing, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ Campus Village Apartments Student Housing, Auraria Campus, Denver, CO Fulginiti Pavilion for Ethics & Humanities, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, CO World Trade Center Memorial, New York, NY (competition entry) Kenneth King Center Classroom, Office and Performing Art Complex, Auraria Higher Education Center, Denver, CO New York City Police Memorial, New York, NY* PS #56, Richmond Elementary School, Staten Island, NY* Courtyard and Lobby Renovation, New School for Social Research, New York, NY* Columbus East High School Gymnasium Addition, Columbus IN*

8 Ben de Rubertis, AIA, LEED AP Principal Education: Bachelor of Architecture, Yale University, New Haven, CT 1992 Master of Architecture, Yale University, New Haven, CT 1998 Ben de Rubertis has worked in many capacities as public leader, master planner, historian and principal designer for several nationally-recognized and published projects. In his work with AR7, he leads the design and development of the architectural and engineering design. His design for a residence hall for University of Arizona won an AIA Denver and Western Mountain Region Honor Award. Prior to joining AR7, Ben worked as a designer in the office of Cesar Pelli and Associates and as Project Manager with Yale Urban Design Workshop. His design of a 10,000-squarefoot multipurpose center to serve the Dwight Elementary School was published in Architectural Record in March The design was recognized as a thoughtful response to the site and as a form of low-cost, high-energy urbanism. Mr. de Rubertis received the Winchester Fellowship, the top award for design excellence while at Yale, as well as a nomination for the Sudler Prize, Yale s top undergraduate honor in arts and letters. He also received a Feldman Prize nomination for best individual design project, and four teaching fellowships while at Yale. His work, in both research and design, has been featured in several exhibitions and publications. He served two years as a Project Manager for the Yale Urban Design Workshop, which worked with the Greater Dwight Development Corporation, a grant-funded neighborhood organization which funded several capital construction projects in New Haven s Dwight Neighborhood. He also worked with the Neighborhood Development Corporation and Habitat for Humanity as Project Manager and Co-coordinator of the Yale Project to design and build high-quality, at-cost housing in low-income neighborhoods. He is proud to have been a major contributor on Patrick Pinnell s Walking Guide to the Yale Campus (2001 Princeton University Press), as a historical researcher and writer, working at the time on the influence of early architectural books on American architectural design. Mr. de Rubertis has served as a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee of the Library Commission for the City of Denver. He also works broadly within the arts, running a not-forprofit teaching program for Denver Public Schools through the Cleworth Foundation. He has had several solo exhibitions of his own work, most recently with Studio 3D in Seattle, WA. He also donates time to the Rocky Mountain Children's Choir, arranging choral work and planning events. He is also an original composer and lyricist, with writing and performing credits with Populous, Studiodavoli, Os Tumantes, and most recently with Italian regional darlings Girl With The Gun. 9 North Classroom Levels 4 and 5 Renovation Auraria Higher Education Center, Denver, Colorado Remodel of occupied facilities, relocation and design for state-of-the-art education/technology, space planning for office environment Level 4 (Level 5 similar) Twenty one years after having completed the North Classroom, a symbolic portal between lower downtown Denver and the Auraria Campus, AR7 was asked to return to update the existing structure s fourth and fifth levels. The original building was designed with a high degree of flexibility for space types, resizing, and different uses. The original intent proved successful for these new uses. It was an opportunity to address new spatial needs for the Auraria campus, while maintaining the original structure and working within an incredibly tight schedule. We designed, gutted and renovated two entire floors for the Psychology and Advisory areas within just a few months. Architect selection was made the end of March 2008, and the Bid set released in less than two months. For this project, paramount design considerations included acoustical privacy for offices and easy visual surveillance of the Counseling Center. Cost: $ 850,000 Size: 7,700 sf renovation Occupancy: 2008 Client: Auraria Higher Education Center Barb Weiske, Interim Executive Vice President for Administration, , weiskeb@ahec.edu AR7 17 March 2010 Arapahoe Community College IT / Classroom Relocation 7
