1 Kaplan Architects is a San Francisco based architectural firm doing projects throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Edward Kaplan AIA, NCARB is an award winning, licensed architect and has been responsible for many residential, commercial, retail, and public projects. The firm has been a national award recipient for two second consecutive years by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Kaplan Architects has developed a reputation among its clients, other architects, and builders as a firm having unsurpassed quality and unequaled integrity. 2 CONFERENCE ROOM Silicon Valley Internet Capital relocated their national headquarters from Florida to Palo Alto, California. They wanted their offices to have a clean contemporary appearance. They also wanted to integrate the complex computer and video conferencing equipment with the architectural details. All of the offices were completely customized to the occupants needs. Many spaces contained custom designed furnishings. 4 NEW TRAINING FACILITY The Liquid Air Corporation is a French owned company. We assisted them in their complete remodel of their national headquarters in the United States. The reset of their existing space was done in stages to relocate some personnel and expand and contract different divisions of the organization. 6 LIVING AND DINING ROOM The developer of this project wished to develop this property with 17 units of housing and two retail spaces. The Kearney Street side of the property would contain a four story apartment/condo building and the rear of the property would contain 5 townhouse units. 7 458 BRANNAN STREET SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA We worked for both the owner and tenant on this existing warehouse, light manufacturing building. We did a complete window replacement and entry remodel to the existing front of the building. The new entrance was made to comply with the ADA. The new tenant is a start up Biotech company and we assisted with their tenant improvements and permiting issues.
8 We were retained to work with a complicated ownership group with very limited funding to siesmically upgrade this existing historic hotel structure. We also upgraded severval guest rooms and developed a plan for ADA access compliance. The project was also complicated by the various city agencies involved the permiting process. SHAWMUT HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
9 The owner of this existing industrial building in San Francisco wanted to convert the building into office space that would appeal to the many start up companies moving into the neighborhood. The existing building has a very tall ceiling with exposed light weight steel trusses that contribute to the existing character of the building and would have broad appeal to many possible tenant users. The project had many challenges from and zoning and building code perspective. We thought it was important from a cost point of view to preserve as much of the existing structure as possible. We proposed just changing the front and rear facade and keeping the interior roof structure as is. This also fit with the idea that the tall ceilings and exposed trusses would have a wide appeal to prospective tenants. The building needed new roofing and we consulted with a structural engineer regarding the building code thresholds for seismic upgrades. Some structural work would be minimally needed. We put together a pricing package of drawings to develop and preliminary construction budget for the project. INDUSTRIAL BUILDING CONVERSION
