1 Throughout 2013, ODU teams and supporters proved that we were a program on the rise. In the midst of our first full year of Conference USA competition, the entire ODU community demonstrated a Championship Effort. The school s first ever FBS football win, selling out our 35th consecutive home football game, and postseason fall NCAA appearances by both our field hockey and men s soccer teams, are just a few examples of this Championship Effort contributed by so many. The sports arena was not the only area where our student-athletes gave their Championship Effort. In 2013, ODU student-athletes excelled in the classroom as well. More than half of our 473 student-athletes now carry a GPA of 3.0 or better and nearly a third earned Dean s List honors, 3.4 or better. The 2013 year was also a Championship one for the ODAF. This year the ODAF eclipsed 3,000 members for the first time in school history, including 100% participation by our 130 full time ODU Athletic Department staff and coaches. In addition our members helped increase the annual fund by 10% with a record setting $4.1 million. With the anticipation of beginning the planning and design in 2014 of the brand new state-of-the-art basketball practice facility, the ODAF is focusing on raising the final $2 million of the $8.4 million project. Many attractive naming opportunities are still available for this complex, so please contact the ODAF for more information. While proud of our past achievements, it is essential that we continue to look forward. We must continue to provide our teams the necessary resources they need to succeed. An annual scholarship bill of over $8.1 million, the need to maintain and build world class facilities, and a successful transition to Conference USA makes this a crucial time for ODU athletics. To maintain our trajectory of success, a Championship Effort by all associated with ODU Athletics must continue. Your contribution to the ODAF is the best way to help propel ODU Athletics forward. In an effort to help support our increasing expenses, we are asking all of our ODAF members to join the 110% club. Your participation at this level will assist us greatly in supporting all of our eighteen athletic programs. On behalf of our 473 student-athletes, I thank you in advance for your support. We all value your role on our team. GO S!!! Table of Contents Meet the ODAF Team... 3 ODAF Mission & Goals... 5 Basketball Reseating FAQ... 9 Ways to Give Why Give? Originally named the Old Dominion University Intercollegiate Foundation (ODUIF), more commonly known as the Big Blue Club, the foundation was established in 1964 to provide scholarship support for Old Dominion studentathletes. The ODUIF was re-branded as the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation (ODAF) in This was done to more accurately reflect the mission and scope of the foundation in its support of Old Dominion University Athletics. In our 50th year of existence the ODAF is reaching record marks in both membership and contributions raised. While pleased with our progress over the past fifty years, we cannot become complacent. To continue the growth of ODU Athletics, ODU must have the necessary resources to drive our future success and to make Old Dominion Athletics a major point of pride for the ODU community. 3 Mission & Goals Mission of the ODAF The ODAF is integral to the success of Old Dominion University Athletics, and is the channel through which our fans and alumni can partner with our coaches and student-athletes for the advancement of the athletics program. With the ever-increasing cost of competing at the Division I level, a dynamic donor base is critical to putting the strongest possible teams on the field and court. The mission of the ODAF is to raise financial support for Old Dominion University Athletics and to ensure that our coaches and studentathletes have everything they need to compete for national championships. Members of the ODAF also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing their gifts are investments in the lives of our student-athletes, providing the academic foundation and character building traits learned through a collegiate athletic experience. 4 Basketball Reseating Why Reseat? Fairness ODU Basketball has some of the greatest fans in the country, as evidenced by your voices in the Ted, travel to away games, and financial support to the ODAF. In return, your generous support deserves equitable seating in the Ted Constant Convocation Center. With the tremendous increase in ODAF supporters, the priority seating plan rewards long-time supporters and encourages current contributions to the ODAF. Loyalty The ODAF priority points system rewards annual season ticket purchases, cumulative season ticket purchases, annual contributions, cumulative contributions, and referrals. Donor and season ticket loyalty are the two primary components of the priority seating program designed to reward our most loyal fans. Recognition As the costs of scholarships, facility expenses, and operational budgets continue to increase, flexible and increased funding is needed. ODAF members continually step forward to help meet these financial challenges and deserve to be rewarded for their investment. By reseating, the ODAF is recognizing members and season ticket patrons support on many levels Field hockey wins third consecutive NCAA crown March 1985 November 1986 ODU hosts second consecutive NCAA field hockey championships Women s basketball wins first NCAA and third national title March Men s basketball wins first NCAA tournament game vs. West Virginia in first round action in Greensboro Women s sailing wins second national crown 1988 The Plan Seat Selection Process Seats will be allocated utilizing the ODAF Priority Points System outlined on page 15 of this brochure. For instance, the donor with the most priority points would receive the first appointment time to select their seats, followed by all other donors in ranked order. Any remaining season ticket applications purchased by non-odaf members will be assigned by the athletic ticket office in priority rank order. For those wanting to select seats with a group, the group must select seats with the donor who has the lowest amount of priority points. Groups are encouraged to contact the ODAF before the reseating process begins. You must be an active ODAF member within the level you selected seats to retain basketball seats through the next basketball seating cycle. Whether you are a current ODAF member, season ticket holder, alumnus, or just a big fan of ODU Basketball, the time is now to become an ODAF member and improve your basketball season ticket location. Important Basketball Reseating Information The ODAF has over 3,100 donors and the average donation in 2013 was $1,890. The ODAF will factor your entire 2014 pledge (May 1 deadline, 100% pledge, 50% payment due) into your ranking. The more priority points one has earned, the better their appointment time to select seats. Please view page 15 for more information on our Priority Point System Field hockey wins fourth NCAA crown 1989 Sailing repeats as national champions and soccer advances to first NCAA tournament ODU joins the Colonial Athletic Association Field hockey wins fifth NCAA crown The ODU Soccer Stadium opens with 3,200 in attendance for a match against William and Mary Sailing wins ICYRA team national title and Terry Hutchinson named national Sailor of the Year ODAF members will only be able to select the number of priority seats they are eligible for at the level they donate. In years where no selection process occurs, members will maintain their seat assignments as long as their giving level does not decrease. If a member does decrease their giving level, the appropriate number of seats will be reassigned based on our Annual Donor Benefits Chart (page 14). Detailed information regarding the selection process, including one s appointment time, will be mailed out prior to July 1st. Appointment times will begin in mid-july and occur between 10a.m. and 8p.m. Appointment times are scheduled every three minutes. Seats can be selected online, over the phone, or by visiting the Barry Kornblau Alumni Center located on campus at the corner of Hampton Blvd. & 49th Street. If one does not select seats within 30 minutes of their appointment time, the ODAF will pick for them unless otherwise advised. Basketball reseating forums will be held prior to the reseating process. Details on these events will be sent out at a later date. Due to the unknown number of season tickets that will be sold by the donation deadline, there are no guarantees for an appointment time. ODU has such a rich and proud basketball tradition, to go along with a great family atmosphere and the opportunity to receive a college degree. I felt I had to be a part of this program and I am so glad I did. Frequently Asked Questions Q: How are appointment times determined for reseating? A: Appointment times for reseating are only assigned to current ODAF members and are based on priority point rankings as of May 1, The donor with the most priority points selects first, followed by all ODAF members in rank order. Q: Will I be able to change seat locations for the season? A: Yes, you will have the opportunity to request a change next year, based on your donor rank. If seats are available next year after considering all requests from members ranked higher, your location will be moved. Q: I ve purchased season tickets in the past and want to buy more for the season. Is this possible? A: Yes, but your giving level may have to increase in order to choose seats on priority, and you must do so by the May 1st deadline. Please see the ODAF Annual Donor Benefits Chart (page 14) which explains how many tickets can be purchased at each giving level. Q: Can you inherit an ODAF member s priority points ranking? A: No. ODAF points are non-transferable. Q: How do I select seats along with friends so that our families can sit together? A: To choose tickets together, friends must select seats with the appointment of the lowest ranked ODAF member in the group. Groups are encouraged to contact the ODAF before the reseating process begins. Q: Will premium seat holders be assigned an appointment time to select seats? A: No. The seats located in premium seating (Club Level, Courtside, & Luxury Suites) are purchased on a contractual agreement. You will only be designated an appointment time if you also purchased regular season tickets located in priority seating. Q: How does the process work if I have both Men s & Women s Basketball Tickets? A: You will be given a selection time based off your current ranking using the ODAF Priority Points System (page 15). When your time begins, you will use your login information and select your men s basketball season tickets first and complete the steps to finalize your allocation. After selecting men s season tickets, you will then use your same login to enter a different selection site.* From here, you will repeat the steps to select your seats for your women s basketball season tickets. *A link will be provided on the home screen to jump to the Women s Selection Site. 7 Why Give? By the Numbers The ODAF is the sole fundraising vehicle for Old Dominion University Athletics. Through its annual fund drive, the ODAF raises contributions in support of student-athlete scholarships. The long term goal of the ODAF is to fund all ODU athletic scholarships on an annual basis. The ODU Athletic Department receives no state funding and relies heavily on season ticket sales, sponsorships and advertising, student fees, and private contributions from our ODAF members. With your help we will continue to work to reach our goal of funding all athletic scholarships, in turn, allowing us to give our programs the necessary resources to compete for both C-USA and National Championships. The ODAF is very pleased with its recent success and the generosity of our donors. In 2013 we were able to reach a record high of 3,112 donors contributing $4,177,799. Although these are benchmarks for our program, we still need to reach our goal of being fully funded, with a scholarship bill of over $8.1 million. Priority Point System The goal of the ODAF Priority Point System is to achieve an equitable distribution of benefits. The intent of our system is to reward loyalty and support, while enabling new donors to acquire appropriate benefits in recognition of their financial support of the ODAF s scholarship fund. The Priority Point System is used to determine priority when allocating seat assignments at home, away, neutral and postseason games, parking, seating improvements and other special athletic events and activities. Priority points are awarded based on contributions to the ODAF, and are only active with an annual minimum gift to the ODAF of $100. The chart below shows how our priority points are calculated. NEW THIS YEAR! Beginning in 2014, ODAF will award two (2) priority points for each season ticket voucher book purchased for baseball, men s & women s soccer, and wrestling. These additional points will be awarded to fully recognize all season ticket purchases and reward our donors. These points are calculated in the Priority Point System under Current Year Season Tickets Purchased and Consecutive Years Season Tickets. (To purchase Season Ticket Voucher Books, contact the go to YNotTix.com or call ) Current Point System (As of January 1, 2014) Priority Point Example Big Blue has purchased two football and two men s basketball season tickets for two consecutive years. Big Blue has also been a member of the ODAF for two consecutive years, donating $500 unrestricted each year for a total of $1,000. He was also able to sign up his good friend Charles to join the ODAF at $100. This would give Big Blue 136 priority points broken down below: Season Tickets Purchased (Current Year) 4 x 2=8 Consecutive Years Giving ODAF 2 x 2=4 Consecutive Years Season Tickets 2 x 2=4 Cumulative Lifetime ODAF Gift 1,000 x.02=20 Current Year ODAF Gift Unrestricted 500 x.15=75 Restricted none x.08=0 The Power of One-Referral Program +25 per referral Total: 136 priority points Where do you rank? 11 Championship Effort ODAF Achieves 100% Staff Participation In 2013 the ODAF reached out to all 130 full-time ODU Athletic Department staff and asked them to make a donation to the athletic foundation. For the first time in the fifty year history of the ODAF, 100% of the entire Monarch family, which included coaches, administrators, and support staff, answered the call and made a financial contribution to the ODAF in Contributions from athletic department employees totaled over $25,500. Dr. Wood Selig praised his staff for their participation in the staff giving campaign. I congratulate Mark Benson and our entire ODAF staff. Having 100% staff participation speaks to the high moral, esprit de corps, and overall support our coaches and administration have for each other and most importantly our 473 student-athletes who represent ODU athletics. The contributions from the staff will help to support the student-athlete scholarship bill, which for 2013 was $8.1M. Heather Holt Women s Lacrosse Head Coach As a former student-athlete and now coach, I know the integral part ODAF plays in the development of our student-athletes and the overall athletic program. 110% Club As a part of the ODU Athletics Strategic Plan, the ODAF has been asked to grow our annual fund by 10% each year. In an effort to help us achieve this goal, we are asking all of our members to join the 110% Club. Increase your pledge by 10% from the previous year s amount and help the ODAF meet our goal. To show our gratitude to those who make this commitment, the ODAF will reward members with a unique 110% Club gift! POWER OF ONE Referral Program Another way for our current members to demonstrate their Championship Effort is by signing up friends, family, co-workers, fellow alumni and ODU fans to join the ODAF. The Power of One can make an enormous impact on the ODAF. By each of our members referring just one new ODAF member, our membership will grow to over 6,500. To reward those who participate in this membership drive, the ODAF will reward each donor with 25 priority points for every new member (minimum of $100) they sign up as well as give them the opportunity to receive many different prizes. In order to verify the referral, please fill out the name in the referral space on the attached pledge card. The new donor s pledge must be paid in full before the active donor receives the incentive of 25 priority points and prize. Refer your first member today and start collecting priority points and prizes! Dave Rowlands Stafford, Virginia 110% Club Member I gladly increased my 2013 ODAF donation to help fund the additional athletic scholarships needed for ODU Football s transition to C-USA and to maximize my selection options during football reseating. Go Monarchs! Ken Danser 2013 Power of One Winner I try to get my friends, family, and anyone else involved in giving to ODAF because I see how exciting the University is becoming. While ODU has always had fabulous sports teams, including many national and conference champions, the addition of football has kicked the excitement to a new level. I want people to become involved in this growing process, and experience the fun and camaraderie of attending games well into the future. We need their support to grow and excel both athletically and academically. I want everyone to become involved, not only as a spectator, but as a member of the ODU family. Being a member of ODAF accomplishes this and gives each donor Number of New Members Rewards 3 ODAF Lapel Pin 5 ODAF Car Flag 10 ODAF Nike Gameday Polo VIP Courtside experience Grand Prize at Men s Basketball Game ownership in the University and its athletic programs
