3 I. Description of Services/Operational Overview Currently at UNG, our Athletic Program includes the following NCAA Division II recognized sports: 1. Basketball (Men & Women) 2. Baseball (Men) 3. Golf (Men & Women) 4. Softball (Women) 5. Soccer (Men & Women) 6. Tennis (Men & Women) 7. Rifle (Mixed) 8. Cross Country (Women) 3

4 II. Relation to Mission The Athletic Program s goal is to supplement the education and development of UNG students outside the traditional classroom through athletic competition. This is consistent with the mission of the institution, which provides an intercollegiate program conducive to the students intellectual, ethical, social, and physical development as well as their cultural awareness so they can become knowledgeable and responsible citizens. The Department of Athletics embraces the idea that participating in athletics is leadership training in action. III. Goals & Objectives The Department of Athletics will: 1. Improve student-athletes academic performance. 2. Maintain competitive programs. 3. Strengthen alumni/community relations and enhance fund-raising initiatives. Our athletic facilities continue to be enhanced. The newly constructed Coleman Baseball/Softball field house is now complete and the baseball/softball teams are in the process of moving in. However, we are still in need of additional construction improvements to all other facilities to include the basketball gymnasium, tennis facility and soccer facility. IV. Critical Success/Performance Factors NCAA Compliance UNG will continue to educate our institution/staff to be compliant with rules and regulations of the NCAA/Peach Belt Conference. Professional growth of Athletics Administration staff / Coaches will attend professional seminars/conferences to expand their knowledge and expertise. Continue to employ quality coaches additional funds will be needed to retain coaches with appropriate salary increases and to hire additional assistant coaches and administrative staff to fulfill coaching and staff requirements. 100% Scholarship Endowment - Recruit quality student-athletes funds will be needed to provide scholarships that will be equal to NCAA limits and to keep pace with inflation and tuition increases. Increase number of International Waivers annually as we continue to attempt to become a more diverse campus, recruiting international student-athletes will become more important if we are be successful in our soccer and tennis programs. To construct quality athletic facilities that will rank among the best in NCAA Division II we must provide facilities that will attract both the student-athlete and the 5

5 parents. This is also true if we are to generate funds from outside sources (Booster Club memberships, naming opportunities of facilities, etc.). V. Revenue Sources/Projections & Pricing/Fee Strategy A. Revenue Sources/Projections Student-athletic fees develop a plan to incorporate all of the student population across all campuses of UNG. UNG Foundation Ticket sales increase by 10% annually Apparel sales receive 10% of sales from all athletics apparel Advertisements, signs, media guides sales increase by 10% annually Booster Club memberships increase by 10% annually In kind gifts/donations Gifts for Naming Opportunities Facilities & Positions Capital Campaign B. Pricing/Fee Strategy The strategy of the university will be to charge as low a fee as possible while providing quality services and programs for our students that are comparable to or better than those provided by institutions of similar size and within the Peach Belt Conference. Currently, all UNG-Dahlonega students who are enrolled for 1 4 hours pay 50% of the athletic fee; students enrolled from 5-6 hours pay 75% of the athletic fee; students taking 7+ hours pay 100% of the athletic fee. Students that are enrolled at off campus sites are not presently required to pay the student athletic fee. A student athletic fee increase will be required during the 5-year plan. UNG will have at least a 2 % growth in student population each year. All operational budgets will be increased each year for inflation. All scholarship budgets will be increased each year to keep pace with tuition increases. Athletic Administration will continue to absorb additional personal services for personnel (administrative assistance, coaches and athletic trainers). VI. Financial Plan See Appendix I for 5 year financial forecast. Athletics Strategic Plan includes additional details regarding financial plans. 6

6 VII. Performance Measures Academics Improve overall GPA and graduation rates of our student-athletes Professional growth of students organizational skills, positive self-image, improved self-confidence and self-expectancy Athletic success of student-athletes (individual goals) Team success conference, regional and National Championships Increase attendance at games home / away Fundraising to increase donations by 10% yearly 7
