5 Our Specialist Masters degrees MSc Accounting and Finance The course provides students with a high level understanding of theory and practice in the core areas of accountancy and finance. The emphasis is placed on empirical research methods and on accounting and finance practice. Students go on to work within fields including media, local government, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, petroleum and technology. MSc Finance The MSc Finance course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a professional career in the city, financial services, corporate finance, treasury and banking sectors. It develops a critical appreciation of finance theory and practice. MSc Finance and Business Economics With a specific focus on business economics the course examines the links between international macroeconomics and global capital markets. Students leave equipped to pursue careers in financial markets, banking or financial institutions. MSc Finance and Economics Restricted to students who have taken final year undergraduate courses in micro and macroeconomics, this course provides the knowledge and skills that are required by anyone wishing to fulfil a career as a Financial Economist. MSc Mathematical Finance The finance industry demands recruits with strong quantitative skills and this course is intended to prepare students for a career in that arena. The course provides training for those who seek a career specialising in derivative securities, investment, risk management and hedge funds. MSc Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering This course provides ideal preparation for a career in the finance industry, especially students who are planning to work in investment banking, securities trading, asset and risk management, commercial banking, international finance markets or as economists. The course is delivered from a genuinely international perspective and is particularly useful for careers that involve designing new financial instruments and managing trading in them. MSc Quantitative Finance and Risk Management This course offers constructive education for careers that involve financial risk management in the market place and financial institutions. MSc Analytics: Operational Research and Risk Analysis The course covers decision sciences, approved operational research and statistics. MBus Global Business Analysis The course is aimed at postgraduates who are interested in pursuing a career in the area of business analysis and development, including business consulting. The course has a strong international focus and explores the issues faced by organisations operating in the global business arena. All students undertake an internship following completion of semester 2, allowing them to apply their learning to real business problems. Graduates move into a wide range of careers, and recent recruiters include Accenture, Burson Marsteller, Deloitte, the NHS, Rolls Royce, and Tokyo Mitsubishi Bank. MSc Healthcare Management The course covers contemporary health policy, management and leadership in healthcare organisations with a unique emphasis on students personal development. It provides suitable training for those who wish to take up management positions in the healthcare sector. Many of our international students come from a clinical background, and the course enables them to move more easily into a healthcare management role. We have strong links to the healthcare organisations and the course is also offered on a part-time basis allowing for the professional development of their workforce. MSc Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations Accredited by the CIPD, this course provides students not only with membership to the CIPD but also develops a critical appreciation of the theoretical foundations and empirical practice of Human Resource Management. Graduates from the programme have gone on to a wide variety of careers and further study, mostly, but not exclusively, in related fields. These include HR consultancy at PwC, HR roles at BP, Co-operative Insurance, Deloitte, Fujitsu, Halliwell LLP, Marks and Spencer, the NHS, Tesco, local government and employment law consultancy. MSc Human Resource Management and Comparative Industrial Relations (International) Accredited by the CIPD, the course allows students to gain an understanding of the differences between countries and multinationals in their employment practices and industrial relations systems. The course is particularly valuable for those wishing to pursue careers within multinational companies both in the UK and overseas; this gives a broader international understanding of HR professionals working in a global context. MSc Information Systems: Business Information Technology/e-Business Technology/e-Government/ Organisations and Management With four pathways to choose from, MSc Information Systems students have the option to study how recent developments within IS and IT affect both global, local and e-business. With modules focusing on how to facilitate, realise business goals and apply all recent developments to business, successful completion of the course provides an entry platform into a variety of careers. These include systems analysis, project management, procurement, knowledge management, web analysis and technology management.

7 MSc Innovation and Entrepreneurship The aim of this top-rated course is to produce well trained analysts of innovation, familiar with economic, social, political and management theories and approaches. Students are able to apply their interdisciplinary perspective to understand the organisational and policy challenges of innovation and entrepreneurship. Postgraduates from the course go into a wide range of careers from industry (Bosch, Technopolis Group, Unilever), financial institutions (HSBC, JP Morgan), consultancies (Cap Gemini, PwC, SQW Consulting), research organisations (TNO), governmental and non-governmental organisations (DEFRA, UNIDO, World Bank), and academia. MSc International Business and Management Drawing on economics, finance, organisational theory, marketing and human resource management, students examine areas of international business and management in depth. The course includes a masters thesis (research dissertation) on an international business-related topic. Graduates will gain partial exemption from membership to the Institute of Export, with the potential of a full exemption depending on the choice of options and research focus of the dissertation. There is the opportunity to spend a semester at an international partner institution to gain valuable experience in the world of business. Recent graduates have gained employment in management consultancy, international banking, commodities markets and with multinational companies and universities. MSc Managerial Psychology The course trains students in human resource management with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills used in organisational psychology. Learning about training, organisational development, employee relations and motivation, design of environments, health and safety, human/machine interaction, counselling, personal development, performance appraisal, career development, and selection in organisations, allows graduates to bring added dimensions to their employers. MSc Organisational Psychology The course provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by the division of Occupational Psychology of the British Psychological Society. The majority of graduates pursue the practical experience required to become Chartered Occupational Psychologists. This is usually carried out within consultancy firms or within specialist sections of large organisations. Graduates are often employed as internal consultants. MSc Marketing This course provides students with the skills necessary to develop a critical appreciation of key areas of marketing and allows in depth investigation in specialist areas such as consumer behaviour, strategy and international marketing.
