The management of innovation is inherently interdisciplinary and multi-functional, so we provide an integrative approach which develops a practical yet rigorous toolbox of methods. Most management training is aimed at maintaining stability for the organisation and focuses less on the effective management of innovation. Our MSc is fundamentally different, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to lead and manage innovation and operational and strategic levels, qualities essential to the continued success of rapidly growing and highly innovative firms such as Apple and Google. However, benefiting from innovative ideas is not easy or automatic and this MSc provides an integrative approach that combines the management of the market, technological and organisational change to create value from innovation. Through a range of seminars, lectures and employer-based projects, the course focuses on the processes of scientific advance and technical innovation and their dependence on the decisions and actions of organisations and individuals. You will understand and apply a range of basic quantitative and qualitative social science research skills and practical tools needed for the application of technological and innovation management. Our approach is critical and interdisciplinary, drawing upon ideas from business, management and economics, political sciences, innovation studies and science and technology policy. You will graduate with a range of transferable skills directly relevant to a range of occupations. In particular, This MSc creates opportunities for graduates to work in: management consultancy product and service development business and technology analysis entrepreneurial and new venture creation and growth project or technology management global business R&D and innovation management general management in large, multinational organisations project-based organisations in the private and public sector. Our graduates have gone into careers in government, international organisations and think-tanks, as well as academia. Others have set up their own businesses or joined new ventures as entrepreneurs. Students have worked with a range of employers on their dissertation projects including American Express Technologies, Arthur D. Little, Atkins, Balfour Beatty, BT, Pfizer and Proctor & Gamble.
