6 Selection Criteria Summarises the key requirements of the position Normally used by the panel to short-list for interview stage May include essential and desirable criteria Common for public sector and larger corporate organisations Your application normally needs to address the criteria Address each criterion under a separate heading Analyse and respond to each part eg verbal and written Expect the interview questions to be based on the criteria Use specific examples to demonstrate your skills & knowledge Your responses can draw from university, clinical experience, other paid and unpaid work, relevant community activities, maybe school Include the outcome (results) of your experience If it was a team effort, indicate your role and contribution Structure your responses Examples of Selection Criteria For the New Graduate Registered Nurse and Midwife Recruitment at NSW Health 1. Eligible for registration as a nurse or midwife with the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW prior to the agreed date for commencement of employment 2. Completing course in second semester 2008 or first semester Australia citizenship or a visa which permits employment in Australia (New Zealand citizens residing in Australia who hold a current Special Category Visa are considered to have permanent residency status). There is no sponsorship available from NSW Health for student visa holders 4. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 5. Overseas students must have evidence of completion of at least two years full-time or full-time equivalent secondary, vocational or higher education in Australia and Certification by the senior nurse or midwife academic at the Australian education institution where a nursing or midwifery course was undertaken (i.e. Dean, Head of School or Head Teacher) that "the applicant for registration/enrolment has been assessed clinically, and in that clinical assessment has demonstrated a knowledge of English language adequate for nursing practice or midwifery practice (as applicable)" or have documented proof of English Language skills equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at academic 7 level. 6. Current clinical knowledge and clinical problem solving ability 7. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team 8. Understanding of the professional, ethical and legal requirements of the Registered Nurse and or Midwife 9. Meets all NSW Department of Health Immunisation requirements Situation give a context Task what was the goal? Activity clear strategy Result so what? outcome Structure Example Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills S On my last clinical placement at XXX I took part in regular team meetings which included a range of professionals discussing cases. T I reported each week on my patients care and recovery, referring to clinical notes and addressed questions from other team members. A Some of the more complex cases involved giving a brief presentation and the development of ongoing care strategy which took account of the patient s medical, family and domestic situation. I kept clinical and file notes according to standards. R I was regularly complimented on the quality of my note-taking and my interaction with patients and their families from medical staff.
