1 Exalted Ruler John Aceves Leading Knight Geoff Miller Loyal Knight Jim Miller Lecturing Knight John Thayer Esquire Greetings from your Exalted Ruler, John B. Aceves Greetings from your Exalted Ruler, Well another month has passed and our Lodge has been very busy. In August, our lodge was the location of the District Deputy clinic put on by our DDGER David Quackenbush. In September, we had our Labor Day picnic that included about 15 veterans from the Tucson VA. A big thank you for our volunteers who helped make this another successful event. We had our DDGER visit our lodge and join us in one of monthly meetings. Please look at the Tucson 385 web site link from the Grand Lodge. We have updated information and added more photos. Chaplain Inner Guard Frank Santos Tiler Harry Dobiesz Secretary Bob Holyoak Treasurer Joe Jablonski st Year Trustee Stephen Fake nd Year Trustee Scott Walker 3rd Year Trustee Nancy Turner 4th Year Trustee Lori Moore 5th Year Trustee Abram Lares Mark your calendars now, our Leading Knight, Geoff Miller's Charity Ball on Saturday November 12, 2016, more information to follow. We still are looking for someone to fill the Lodge Esquire and Chaplin positions as well as someone to take over the Public Relations chair. Please consider one of these positions. Thank you, for your volunteerism and support for our Lodge. All activities are very important so please place them on your calendars. Some of the functions may change; check the weekly blasts for updates for actual start times and dates. Until next time, stay healthy, build membership and let s fill the lodge. John B. Aceves
2 Veterans Committee News Veterans Committee News by Teen Morgan, Chairman Keeping busy with the Veterans Saturday, October 1st: Tour of the Presidio Fort in downtown Tucson, followed by lunch at Furr s Family Restaurant on St Marys Road. The tour starts at 10am, so we need to be there by 9:35 to 9:50 If you cannot make the tour, join us for lunch. A Sign Up sheet will be at the lodge or call Teen at Saturday, November 5th: Tour of Pima Air and Space Museum (sub sandwich lunch to eat on-site? Eegees, Subway or Jimmy Johns, we will decide which one closer to November). The tour starts at 9am, we can always meet over there or maybe some would like to car pool. This will be a different tour than what we have done in the past. In December, we will celebrate with two Christmas Parties, December 15 (Thursday) and 16th (Friday). So mark your calendar, think about what gifts we can bring that the Veterans would enjoy. Always open for suggestions. Right now I have 28 Christmas stockings that need to be filled. These would be great for the Veteran in the hospital. What should we put in the stockings? Lots of planning and lots of fun too. Crafty Critters Report This is the time of year we start to get so busy. It is also the best time of the year. Sorry to say, we did not get the grant money that we applied for. But the ladies are banding together to make it on our own. Joanna has come up with a plan to make clutch purses, they are beautiful and we have sold them in the past. So we are on a roll, measuring out the right amount of fabric, lining, sewing and then selling. We will make our goal of $2000 to purchase clothes for homeless veterans. Be sure to check the show case as we have potato bags, book covers and lots more fun stuff. Also, it is quilts time too. Lots of blankets being made for the Blind Rehab. We meet every Tuesday at 6 PM, Join us or just drop by to see what we are up to. Teen Morgan Chairmen

Elks In History In the World War I era, no American military figure was better known than Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing. Brigadier General Pershing personally assumed command of the assaulting line at the most critical period when only about 15 yards from the last Moro position. His encouragement and splendid example of personal heroism resulted in a general advance and the prompt capture of the hostile stronghold. In return for his subsequent WWI victories, President Wilson granted him the right to choose the specific time for the Armistice, and as a loyal and upright Elk, Pershing chose the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918; an Elk imprint on the U.S.
