2 Greetings, Welcome to the Technology-Enabled Learning and Leading Institute for principals and viceprincipals. There are over 350 participants at this event and we are excited that you will be joining us! This initiative is a joint partnership between the Association des directions et direction adjointes des ecoles franco-ontariennes (ADFO) the Catholic Principals Council Ontario (CPCO) and the Ontario Principals Council (OPC). We also wish to extend our sincere thanks to the Ontario Ministry of Education for their continued support throughout this project. This two-day institute is designed for learning, sharing and collaborating. We are pleased to provide you with a comprehensive selection of learning sessions on specific topics from which to choose. Our keynote sessions will feature Simon Breakspear delivering a live virtual session entitled Designing Deeper Learning in the Digital Age and Alec Couros delivering a live session entitled Taking on the Challenges of 21st Century Teaching and Learning. Blogging as Portfolio by Alec Couros will be offered three times during the institute to ensure that every participant can experience this learning session. Resources to support the work of K-12 Classroom Educators in Ontario (OERB, vle, OSAPAC, Edugains/Edusource) Administrators need to know what s out there to support educators and to lead technology-enabled learning and teaching. This session will provide information on the Ministry sponsored digital resources that can be integrated into the work of K-12 classroom educators in Ontario. Michael Raso & Paul Gautreau How to Evolve a Technology Enhanced Learning Environment through 21st Century Fluencies Using 21st Century Fluencies, derived from Lee Crockets book Literacy is not Enough, 21st Century Fluencies, as the practical base from which to work, this session will outline how to set school and department goals, build staff competencies, ensure greater staff accountability and bring your parent community to a better understanding of what 21st Century learning should look like, firmly rooting technology in the role of supporting learning. As digital leaders we need to set high techspectations for ourselves, staff and students. One of the most efficient ways to do this is to model the efficient and purposeful use of technology in our daily practices. When using Web 2.0 tools to control, organize and manage our workflow, we become more efficient and focused digital leaders. See social media tools like Twitter, Storify, GAFE, Web 2.0 tools and more in action. Tips and tricks for practical use will be provided that will help you become a digital leader today! How do you address digital citizenship when using technology to support learning? What are leaders doing to create a culture of digital citizenship? Jennifer Paziuk Sustainagility in Professional Learning This session is an opportunity to collaborate with your provincial colleagues in developing sustainable and agile professional learning models. The focus will be on the alignment of professional learning opportunities from the Board Improvement Plan, centrally developed learning opportunities and the collaborative inquiries imbedded in School Improvement Plans. Blogs allow for instantaneous, media-rich communication with local and global audiences. They are also powerful tools that aid in the development of a positive digital footprint, especially when designed as eportfolios. This workshop will outline the process by which blogs can be used to showcase learning for students, teachers and educational leaders, as well as to provide a foundation for building personal learning networks that support lifelong learning. Denis Tardif Telling Your School Story: Using social media to build positive public relations Social Media allows school leaders the opportunity to communicate with and engage their community in ways that go so far beyond the school newsletter. Key tools will be highlighted, as well as some of the cautions that school leaders may need to consider when using social media to tell the story of their school. So you have heard of Google Apps for Education (GAFE), and want to learn more about it. See how two administrators from the OCSB have used Google Apps to help streamline and make daily tasks more efficient. Become familiar with Google Docs, forms, spreadsheets and calendar. Michael Raso & Geoffrey Edwards Using Technology to Support Collaborative Inquiry This session will be a well-balanced mix of presentation and small/large group discussion, with ample opportunity for active interaction and questions. The importance of active student leadership will be explored and discussed in-depth with a focus on the use of technology to further inquiry, metacognition, engagement and personalized learning. Gianna Helling Knowledge Building: How to engage students and teachers in transforming wonder into knowledge through inquiry based learning In this session participants will focus on how to engage students and teachers in transforming wonder into knowledge through inquiry based learning. In addition, a focus on a model for building capacity at the school and board levels will be discussed. Karen Dobbie & Francis Noventa Implementing a 1:1 Chromebook Project In this learning session participants will hear the story of a secondary school that has started to implement a 1:1 Chromebook pilot project. Chad Warren So you ve got a Twitter account, now what? In this blended session we ll quickly cover the basics of Twitter by participating in real time in the Twitterverse. You ll learn how to use hashtags, lists and third-party apps to engage your school communities and manage your workflow. We ll use techniques that unleash the power of social media and collaborative spaces to build communities, uncover hidden expertise, understand the positives of connecting with strangers, and support student, staff, and parent learning. Creating a school culture that embraces innovation and continuous improvement requires a comprehensive and integrated approach. This session will explore strategies for school leaders to create and nurture school structures, culture, processes and resource allocations that invigorate and empower positive change. Lawrence DeMaeyer S23 S20 S21 S22 Building Staff and Parent Buy In for Initiatives in Support of Student Learning Using engagement and the growth mindset, we are raising student confidence and supporting learning. Documenting student inquiry through online journals, blogs and Twitter has been important to engaging parents and students in the learning process. Donato DiPaolo & Gianna Helling The Connected Leader George Couros stated at the 2014 Tech-Enabled Teaching & Learning Symposium that to work in isolation today is a choice. A variety of tools are available to school leaders to help make connections around the corner and around the world.
