4 1 UCLM Founded in 1985, the University of Castilla-La Mancha is spread out over four main campuses within four provinces of the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain):, Ciudad Real, and Toledo. In addition, there are two other satellite campuses located in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) and Almadén (). Since its foundation as a public institution for higher education and research, our University now offers 45 Bachelor s degree programs and 34 official Master s degree programs, all of which are in accordance with the standards of the European Higher Education Area. In addition, UCLM offers a wide selection of postgraduate courses and doctorate programs. There are currently over 30,000 students enrolled in the University with a staff of close to 2,500 professors and researchers. In addition, there are nearly 1,100 administrators and service personnel. In addition to teaching, research constitutes another fundamental pillar of UCLM, with over 237 groups dedicated to research. UCLM currently collaborates with more than a thousand regional, national, and multinational companies. This joint collaboration is based primarily on the development of research projects that are of interest for public and private industry. Furthermore, each year these companies offer work placement programmes for students. Currently, there are more than 4,000 work placement positions offered. Internationally, the University maintains an affiliation with approximately 715 various academic centres throughout Europe, in addition to several higher education institutions worldwide. This provides many opportunities for teaching and studying in a university community abroad. The geographical location of UCLM has enabled the university to become a pioneer in the incorporation of new technologies. Today, all our buildings are equipped with WIFI and have 1,500 computer terminals which are avalaible to all students and faculty. In addition, students and faculty members are given an account to use and also receive a variety of extra benefits. UCLM s commitment to excellence can be seen through its outstanding reputation as one of the best universities in Spain. It ranks among the top fifteen Spanish universities in enrolment, R&D+i funding, and human resources and materials, having low dropout rate, and more library space for students and faculty. 3 4 campuses,, and Toledo 2 satellite campuses Almadén () and Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) 40 schools 36 departments School of Architecture School of Juridical and Social Sciences School of Environmental Science and Biochemistry School of Sports Science School of Humanities School of Nursing and Physiotherapy School of Industrial Engineering School of Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Nursing (Talavera ) School of Social Sciences (Talavera) Toledo Campus Campus School of Medicine School of Chemical Sciences School of Law and Social Sciences School of Arts School of Civil Engineering School of Computer Science School of Industrial Engineering School of Agricultural Engineering Polytechnic School (Almadén) School of Nursing SEVILLA 21 Bachelor s degree majors 13 Master s degree majors VALLADOLID TOLEDO CIUDAD REAL CÓRDOBA 27 Bachelor s degree majors 15 Master s degree majors (2 bilingual in Industrial Engineering and Quimical Research) MADRID MÁLAGA 4 5 key factors of UCLM 1. 6 STUDENT BODY UCLM provides informational services, personalized attention to students with disabilities, and also manages grants and scholarships which give students the possibility of participating in work placement programmes in various companies. The students at UCLM The underlying aim of UCLM is to provide information and help to its students starting from the pre-enrolment process and throughout their curse studies at UCLM. In addition, we continue to provide assistance to students during their employment search process once they ve graduated so that they are able to find employment related to their field of study. In order to achieve this, there are a series of services built into the University s structure through which UCLM develops and coordinates its activities and programmes. Most notably are the following: Services for Students with Disabilities, the Centre for Information and the Promotion of Employment, the University Counselling Service, the Sports Services Amongst the programmes in place, the most representative of these are services such as: the information provided to teaching professionals as well as management of the University s teaching Centres; the coordination and management of UCLM admissions examinations; the channelling and processing of grants and scholarships awarded to students and student associations and unions; internship programmes; and finally, the management of student placements in other Spanish universities or institutions. Students work placements Placements in companies or schools are a great opportunity for students to get to know the profesional world better through first-hand experience. This part of the academic programme provides students the opportunity to receive real life training in order to better prepare them for the world of work that awaits them. In this way, they are better able to witness the newest developments in their particular field of interest and see first-hand the inner workings of a company. Quite often newly graduated students have difficulty finding gainful employment due to a lack of practical knowledge and experience. The placement programmes we offer serve to help those students acquire the needed skills in order to cross the bridge from being University students to successful employees in the work force HEALTHCARE students SOCIAL students ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE students TOLEDO students CUENCA students OVERALL DISTRIBUTION OF STU- DENTS PER CAMPUS total number of students during the academic year number of admissions graduate s students (new degrees and currcicula in extinction (PSC) 949 post graduate s students ARTS AND HU- MANITIES students EXPERIMENTAL students CIUDAD REAL students ALBACETE students INTERNATIONAL RELA CULTURAL HERITAGE UNIVERSITY LIFE PERSONNEL CAMPUS FACILITIES RESEARCH BUDGET & ACADEMIC SCHEDULE STRUCTURE

8 RESEARCH UCLM ranks 15 th in terms of scientific production among public universities and 19 th in investigative production. The financing dedicated to research has increased by 53 % over the last four years, reaching a total of more than 35 million. Funding for such projects comes from a variety of sources including regional, national and European competitive grants, contracts that the university holds with various companies, and funds that the university itself sets aside for research projects. With these links, research can be done either outside the university or within the university itself. Therefore, UCLM s scientific policy has a two-fold objective: On one hand, it aims to encourage the specialization and internationalization of groups and centres with a proven track record in basic, experimental research, linked with the strategic priorities of the region. On the other hand, it also seeks to promote research in the fields of humanities and social sciences, as these are considered to be the areas of greatest importance in the interdisciplinary nature of applied research at our University. An example of how UCLM strives to achieve these aims is the university s participation in national and regional programmes. These programmes place researchers in highly recognized research institutions as well as bringing research projects to UCLM, such as programmes with Ramon y Cajal Institute, Increcyt and Innocampus. In addition, there is a consistent research programme maintained by the university itself. UCLM is placed in a excellent position in the main national and international rankings that include R&D+I indicators. This is due to the support of emergent research groups, the training of our personnel, and the amount of grants given to increase the number of researchers in relevant international institutions. In addition, technical and financial advice is given in order to promote UCLM s participation in European competitions. Finally, another key factor is the sharing of technology develop by UCLM with the public and private sector. In the 2010 World Ranking, UCLM was ranked 748 th out of all other universities. In the Ibero-American Ranking SIR 2012, UCLM ranks 40 th out of all Ibero-American institutions of higher education. Amongst Spanish universities, it ranks 15 th. They date back to the 15 th, 16 th and 18 th centuries. In addition, other properties and artefacts have been acquired through direct purchase or private donations. Our unique buildings are a testimony of the Spanish History. All of them have been renovated over the years, but have always maintained their charm with the purpose of housing the educational and research activity of UCLM. Good examples of these are the former convents of San Pedro Martir and Madre de Dios; the Palace of Cardinal Lorenzana; the Weapon s Factory, in Toledo; the Casa de la Caridad (the current headquarters of the Rector s Office in ) ; or the former Convicts Jail in the School of Mining in Almadén.
